Scott Embry’s Friday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 22, 2026January 22, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LATORIO deserves to break through and win one this prep. Two back finished second in a leader dominated event behind Spare a Prayer (key form race) and was a better run than main rival Caleb. Since then has finished second to I’m Odette at Bunbury and from the draw should get every chance. Now is the time and Matt Nash couldn’t have the team going any better. CALEB wasn’t as good last start as Latorio but does get a set of blinkers added and is looking for this trip. Just where does he get from the draw? COSTA STAR ran well over an unsuitable trip fresh for the new yard. NOW SHOWING has been going well since arriving in the region. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – LATORIO WIN RACE 2 SATIN BOW has been brave from the breeze in two runs this prep and if Natika Riordan can cross them then she’ll be hard to beat. If she is forced to breeze again then she’ll be vulnerable late but considering Call Me Frosty will likely open favourite for a 3 year old 1000 on Saturday at Ascot this does look a great option for her into a country maiden. YAPPER is through the Latorio/Caleb race that’s on show in the Opener and had no luck on debut after being crunched late in betting. Nice type. ROGERCHINOS steps out on debut as a 5yo off the back of a solid trial. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – SATIN BOW WIN RACE 3 ONEMORETWOMANY won back to back races in this grade, beating On The Mark at 1113m and then beating Bolta at 1217m. Last time out he went around favourite, got back, chased hard but ultimately never looked a winning chance at any stage. Like the fact he’s back out to 1200m and can hopefully sneak in from a tricky draw. ZING TO WIN is a c70+ horse, whether it’s Kalgoorlie or Geraldton, he’s always hard to beat in this grade and last time out he contested the Fitzpatrick Plate and finished only 2.5L off Supernatural, Chino and now Mt Barker Sprint winner Wineaclocksumwhere. PRINCE RAGNAR is best allowed to stride in an all or nothing jump and run mission. GOLD KEEPER beat home many of his rivals last time out. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – ONEMORETWOMANY WIN RACE 4 QUEEN OF HAWKS led and won at Narrogin over 1100m beating Mistress of War (winner at her next outing) and then went to a C3 at Bunbury and beat a handy mare in Mai Aloha showing a good turn of acceleration. The 1200m is a slight query but it’s offset by the 1.5kg claim and the inside barrier. SCURGEOFTHEWEST has won his last two at 1400m and is emerging as a future 70+ type of the region. The query on him is the same as Queen of Hawks, it’s the 1200, and whether he can come back in trip settle off-speed and reel them in. CHAMPEZE is going super for new trainer Kim Anderson. Put the writing on the wall two back and duly saluted last time out. CHOIXWAY could well get out to a big price due to the weight. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – QUEEN OF HAWKS WIN RACE 5 MIFF MUFFERED MOOF ran second to Hard Questions at 1900 and then ran out of her skin to finish fourth in the Geraldton Cup when racing outside her weight division. Back to 1900 back to 58+ and goes around eachway. She’ll roll forward and put herself into the contest. BOUSSAC is a name that will give the majority of WA punters goosebumps but all of a sudden he’s put two together and seemingly loves Geraldton and seemingly will stay? Now is the tough ethical dilemma, do you bring him back out of the bin or leave him there? I’m too far down the rabbit hole to bring him back but he can clearly win. LET’S SEA was really good at 1400 fresh. BUTTERFLY ROCK is still building. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – MIFF MUFFERED MOOF EACHWAY RACE 6 MUST BE NICE will get back regardless of where he’s drawn in the line. He’s got a bad habit of being slowly away so barrier 12/12 isn’t an issue, it’s just whether he can sit back and round them up from last over 1100m. Would love eachway to have some insurance in case it’s too short but don’t think we’ll see it unfortunately? Think he’s quite a nice horse in the making though. VERSAILLE has his first WA start off the back of an 1100m trial win. The 6 horse trials are hard to really assess, especially when the runner-up is a 5 year old maiden (7:0-0-0) but visually she looked solid and the stable is airborne. KARRI ON has been going really well all prep but just can’t buy a gate/map. COZZIES CHOICE was good behind In Situ two back. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 12 – 10 Suggested Bet – MUST BE NICE WIN RACE 7 LIM’S SARBACH got a long way off them behind In Situ (Champeze third) when making his WA debut after leaving Singapore and then second-up finished second to Champeze when being noticeably slow away and making massive late inroads to be beaten under 2L. Needs to jump. If he does he’s hard to beat, if he doesn’t he’s in a world of hurt again. DEEP DISCRETION won a C2 1217m three back and then ran second in another C2 to Scurgeofthewest before going out to a mile last start. Don’t think she ran the trip so back in distance to 1400m a plus. CANTILEVER sneaks back into a C2 after being held up in a 58+. CRAMPIN MY STYLE looks like being (yet another) nice acquisition for Tony Scally who is enjoying a wonderful season to date. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – LIM’S SARBACH WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,5,8 3,5 1,7,12 1,2,3,4 Market Market
