Scott Embry’s Monday Esperance Preview Posted on February 16, 2024February 16, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MINING LEGEND resumes first-up no trial for new trainer Neil Dellar. Raced as a 2 year old and early 3 year old mainly in the metro area in races with far more depth than this. Has enough gate speed to hold up a position close handy from barrier 2 and there’s a lot more questions than answers in this maiden from a form perspective. Wide open race with plenty of chances. SIXTYSLABS was an improver out of sight last start behind Rebel Squaw when narrowly missing late. Reproduces that run and goes close. BLATANT DISARRAY won a recent Lark Hill trial and showed a lot more dash than last preparation. SCOTTISH LAIRD raced at Doomben only 23 days ago. Keep safe. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 12 – 10 Suggested Bet – MINING LEGEND WIN RACE 2 UNCOMPROMISED comes up in grade but gets a bit of weight relief, as well as Tash Faithfull returning to the saddle. He’s no star but he’s racing consistently well and he maps to get another good run just behind likely leader Kenny The King. Should be right place, right time and he fights hard. SHOOT UR SHOT improved sharply second-up when finishing third behind in form galloper Talk Softly. Showed in last season’s Tatts Cup when third that’s he’s more than capable in this grade. LINCOLN’S LAW won two on the bounce before finishing rearwards last start. Barrier 1 is always a concern at Esperance. KENNY THE KING comes back in trip and can lead for a long way. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – UNCOMPROMISED WIN RACE 3 JERICHO’S ECHO broke his maiden at 100-1 five starts ago but showed two starts back with a C2 victory at 16-1 that it wasn’t actually a fluke. He was nearly the replay run of the meeting last start behind Blue Can Talk and certainly races like 1300m will suit. Just needs to get a decent run at them in the home straight from a tricky spot in running to play a part again. BEAUTY IN ME looks ready to win one for Josh Brown. Both runs since arriving in Esperance have been sound and he now calls on the services of in form senior hoop Austin Galati. BELLE’S FANTASY was eye catching two back behind Jericho’s Echo. SISTER KATE can bounce back. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – JERICHO’S ECHO WIN RACE 4 PRO IS HERE lead for the majority of the race at his first Esperance outing before being gobbled up late by Habib. This race looks to have less depth than last start and while he may have to breeze outside of Passion For War or Ebony’s Ace it looks a great chance for him to open Jon Jachmann’s account in the Bay of Isles. LOST SMILE continues to go well. Drawing out rather than in is often a blessing in disguise at Esperance. TALKABOUTYOU doesn’t win out of turn but maps well. REBEL SQUAW was well supported first-up and duly saluted for her loyal following. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – PRO IS HERE WIN RACE 5 WINSALOT can show a big turn of foot for this grade at times. Finished off hard into third behind Talk Softly two starts back and then last start it was on display yet again when second behind Bondi Bubbles. They’ve been the two form horses in the region so far this season and neither of them are in this field. Looks the right race for her to break through for a deserved victory. HABIB is back to his best but with the programming he has to come back to 1200m in the middle of the campaign. BIN SHALAA put in her best run for a while last start behind Talk Softly beating home Winsalot. BLAZING PASSION has to overcome the dreaded gate 1. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – WINSALOT WIN RACE 6 MAGNIFORCE is just jump and run – that’s him. He was ridden to perfection first-up and allowed to stride and he almost looked like he had pinched it for a fleeting moment before the ominous shadow of the highly progressive 3 year old Bondi Bubbles loomed large and took him late. There’s no Bondi Bubbles here and he’s always a huge improver first-up to second-up. 5 starts Esperance 1200 for 3 wins, 7 starts second-up for 5 wins. Looks a nice chance for him to run them off their legs. TALK SOFTLY has had four runs this preparation and like Bondi Bubbles just keeps winning. He’s a massive danger on the minimum and you’d think he starts a popular fav. BOOZEROO can again track up Magniforce. FIRST LAW finishes off late. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – MAGNIFORCE WIN RACE 7 WHEATSTACK THIEF ran second to Gambler’s Gold last start when dropping back from 2000m to 1600m. Get back out to the staying trip, gets a weight pull and provided they can make ground he’s hard to hold out late. GAMBLER’S GOLD has put together impressive back to back wins. The unknown in the 2000m for the first time. CHUCK A LUCK was travelling when held up badly fresh. VEVINSKY has no weight on his back and can stay. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 8 – 13 Suggested Bet – WHEATSTACK THIEF WIN RACE 8 SMALL TOWN RUBY is a 3 year old filly at 2000m for the first time but when you watch the replay last start behind stablemate Friar The Gun it’s easy to convince yourself that she’s ready to run the distance and more than capable of turning the tables on the older horses. Held up repeatedly in the home straight and then loved her last 100m once clear. FRIAR THE GUN got home well late last start to gun down Uncompromised. She rises up 3kg with Jordy Turner going on but she’s shown previously that she gets the trip (winner over 1950). RED WITH TED looks like he’ll stay and this isn’t a vintage lot, in fact, it includes four maidens. MR HOLLYWOOD next best. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – FRIAR THE GUN WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,7,8 1,9 2,3,5,6,8,12,13 1,5,6 Market Market
