Runner by Runner: Galaxy Posted on March 16, 2022March 16, 2022 | Posted by TABtouch Box 1 – ZIPPING VIRGINIA (John Finn)Fawn Bitch | 2YO | Prizemoney: $79,380 Superb debut in her heat where she showed surprising early speed to land 3rd early before running home strongly to win in 41.76. That was the 2nd fastest of the heats and she will find improvement. She does however, usually get back in her races although the box will assist in keeping her as close as possible. Rails hard and stays all day. She will pass most the field but her chances rely on minimal traffic and landing handy again. Solid place chance and will be closing late. Box 2 – KNICKS BALE (Samantha Grenfell)Brindle Bitch | 3YO | Prizemoney $262,835 After a lacklustre run first up here, completely turned it all around in a week to win her heat in 41.97. Well boxed here and while she is a 20 time winner having performed at the top level in the past, she is hot and cold lately and must be taken on trust here. Doesn’t recover from checks well and needs the fence to stay reasonably clear to grind home. Her best will get her in the finish but can she string 2 together? Minor money hope at odds. Box 3 – GYPSY WYONG (Andrea Dailly)White & Black Bitch | 2YO | Prizemoney: $386,645 Placed 2nd at her only 2 starts here, including a defeat behind Knicks Bale in her heat. One of the better stayers in the country and puts in 100% every time. Versatile, has tactical speed over this trip and has run time in the past. 42.00 seems to be pulling her up at the present however and will have to improve on that to get into this. Can never be totally dismissed but place hopes looks best this time. No. 4 – MAMBO MONELLI (Steve Withers)Black & White Dog | 2YO | Prizemoney: $137,180 The new staying star of WA greyhound racing. Has taken to the longer trip like he was born for it. Both his starts have yielded sensational fractions with him stopping the clock at 41.49 first up and then a dominating 41.55 in his heat last week. Has brilliant box manners and a FFA sprinters early speed. His preparation has gone without a hitch and only an uncharacteristic slow beginning will stop him from quickly hopping on the arm and opening this field up. The last bit is where he may be vulnerable but the clock says he will go all the way. Clearly the one to beat and on top selection to take the Galaxy out! Box 5 – HECTONS BOY (Enzo Crudeli)Black Dog | 2YO | Prizemoney: $34,365 What a great effort to make this final for Grahem and Enzo. Ran the race of his life in his heat to finish 2nd behind Mepunga Ruby beaten 3.5L. Held some strong stayers off behind him and while he can not run the time to win this, he will just keep chasing after trying to put himself forward early to give his supporters a tremendous sight. They would tear the stands down if he happens to spring the upset. Could snatch a place with some luck however he does have the job ahead. Box 6 – BEDROCK FRED (Krystal Shinners)Black Dog | 2YO | Prizemoney: $57,035 South Australian stayer who performed above expectations in his heat. Came from worse than midfield to work home for 2nd off box 1 which was suprising considering the 715m usually sees him out. Better known as an on-pace stayer, he handled the track beautifully and will find a lot of Improvement off that. Does have a habit of dropping off when his momentum is interrupted which is a concern and isn’t as well drawn this time, but his heat run had enough to suggest he is the best smokies hope of at least placing if he can offset the box. Don’t underestimate at the big odds for a podium finish. Box 7 – PILBARA (Robert Westworth)Black Dog | 3YO | Prizemoney: $89,275 Peaking at the right time and his heat run suggests he is going as well as ever but that won’t be enough to upset the favourites. Got to 2nd behind Mambo Monelli and took minor ground off him late but held the rest comfortably. Moderate beginner who musters into a forward slot most starts over this trip. 41.85 looks his limit and is a very one paced type of stayer. One for your exotics at the far end at best and looks tested here. Box 8 – MEPUNGA RUBY (Jeff Britton)Black Bitch | 3YO | Prizemoney: $324,960 Wonderful stayer who commands the utmost respect and looks the main threat to Mambo. Went all the way in her heat and while she only went 41.95, it must be noted that she did something similar at Wentworth Park the week prior to running 41.64. Moves to box 8 here which makes her assignment difficult as she is a much better dog drawn in. Can not be dismissed however and if she happened to be the first land behind Mambo early in the run, then she will make favourite backers very very nervous. Obvious threat but will needs a few things to go right early. Torpedo Tears (Reserve 1) Tired badly after leading in his heat. Better known for coming off the arm and running home, he lacks the necessary class to win this years Galaxy. Danielle Keeping (Reserve 2) Ran out of her skin in her heat to finish within a nose of getting a start ahead of Gypsy Wyong. Charged home stoutly and is improving all the time over the trip. Wouldn’t be out of contention for the minor money if she fluked a start but can’t win. SELECTIONS: 4-1-8-6 Mambo Monelli has set the track alight since joining the staying ranks and only a poor start or bad luck will see him beaten. He simply looks too fast and is set to lead throughout. Mepunga Ruby and Zipping Virginia will both improve and their chances will enhance if they happens to settle more forward this week although that is a huge question mark in itself. Bedrock Fred and to a lesser extent, Knicks Bale, are the smokies but minor hopes are best unless there is trouble. The rest look to struggle this time. Market Market
