Michael Heaton’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on November 2, 2023November 2, 2023 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 Peter Fernie appears to have a stranglehold on the opener. TWIST OF GOLD is a month between runs but stuck on well behind Just So Sassy last start and looks the likely leader and the one to beat. WANNA CRACKER comes out of the same race when making good late ground and has run well at both career outings. EDWARD’S CHOICE has blinkers back on and looks much better suited dropping back to 1100m where he beat home Wanna Cracker in the Just So Sassy race two starts back. ELUSIVE DREAM also drops back in distance but is proving more than elusive. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – TWIST OF GOLD WIN RACE 2 KELLY’S LI ZA LU was held up the entirety of the straight in higher grade two starts ago then bolted in at Leonora three weeks ago. Whilst that isn’t a strong form reference, she was going better than reads on paper prior to her win and should be able to find the breeze. HEAR MY PRAYER was tested at a mile last start and looks better suited coming back to 1200m. He’s been disappointing this prep but his best is good enough for a race like this. BAALBEK looks destined to do it tough from the gate but wasn’t beaten far in a much tougher race last start. PACIFIC LADY looks the likely leader again. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S LI ZA LU WIN RACE 3 BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE has found the line better than anything at her last two runs and is drawn perfectly in a far easier assignment. She’s been racing like the extra 100m should be ideal and she should get every chance from her good alley. NO MORE DUST ran the fastest last 200m when only beaten a length in 58+ grade last start and now drops back into a C2. PATRIOTISM broke through in good time at this track/distance last time out and will be on speed. WELL PLAYED next best. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE WIN RACE 4 COUNT GRUNDY has been very good at all three runs this prep. Fastest closing sectionals when only beaten a length first up, no trial over 1600m, raced four and five-wide when winning second-up at this track/grade/distance then stuck on for fourth in higher grade last start. He should be able to find the top and take running down. RYEWOOD looks primed third-up from a spell. She’s finished a narrow second at both runs back and looks suited stepping up to 1760m from a gun draw. GRACE DU ROI drops back in distance after a strong win on Kalgoorlie Cup day but will likely have to settle near-last. LINCOLN’S LAW is capable on his day. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – COUNT GRUNDY WIN RACE 5 PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC beat a near-identical field when leading throughout last start and it looks a very similar setup. He’s drawn inside of Double Spice again and only rises 1.5kg so he should be able to lead and prove hard to beat again. DOUBLE SPICE has been very good at his last couple and looks the logical danger. NURHACI has had no look at his last two. Caught wide two starts back then held up multiple times in the straight last time out but still ran all the fastest closing splits. Going well. DUNBAR also made good late ground in traffic last start and now drops 6kg. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC WIN RACE 6 MUNGO JERRY meets High Pressure 2kg better for beating him home two starts ago then won a 64+ when running home in the fastest splits of the day. He drops back to a 60+ here and looks very well placed. HIGH PRESSURE is a different horse when he’s in front. Great Demon only got over him in the final stride two starts back before he bolted in by four lengths last time out. SOLARIZE should’ve won last start. Over-raced fiercely through the early stages then found traffic on straightening. LOVE DRUNK BABY ran very well against his usual pattern after being slow out last start and was a winner prior to that but the map looks sticky for him from his outside draw. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – MUNGO JERRY WIN RACE 7 PASSION PRINCE is in good form. Only won a C2 last start but carried 61kg to victory and now drops 2.5kg and he should enjoy the run of the race from his good draw. MAGIC DEE is a month between runs and joins a new stable but hit the line brilliantly last time out in a “be on me next start” performance. IT’S A LANCE drops 800m in distance but is four weeks between runs and was huge when four-deep the trip and finishing third over a mile two starts back. MEET JOE BLACK put in a shocker last start but has been freshened and his previous form is good enough to lead for a long way here. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – PASSION PRINCE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2 1,2,5 2,3,4 1,2,6,7,10 Market Market
