Matt Young’s Friday Albany Preview Posted on December 17, 2025December 19, 2025 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 Open race to kick off. ZIGGY VERMEER (5) had an issue last time out but looks well suited here and expecting a sharp improvement, can head forward off the gate and be in the first couple and be dangerous. THE PROTOTYPE (7) has been racing against stronger opposition, but the draw is tricky, if she gets normal racing luck, she will be dangerous late. WHEEL FAST (10) can be forgiven when KO’d last run, thought he was travelling well there and can finish strongly here even from the tough draw. MICKEY BE SWIFT (3) is improving but early speed is a slight concern. DEKLA DIVA (8) has had a few opportunities but won’t be far away. I AM SIAM (6) racing well enough but the draw hurts. Tips: 5 7 10 8 Suggested Bet: ZIGGY VERMEER (5) each way. Race 2 ROCKY MAGUIRE (8) doesn’t have to contend with By Royal Command or Official Rock this time out and I am sure that makes him a happy horse coming in, back row draw to overcome but this looks to be his race for the taking. THE KHUKRI (7) gives Joe Suvaljko another tricky draw to work with, but the horse is racing well and once again can be dangerous with even luck. UP AND ALIVE (5) is expected to improve, she would’ve needed the first up run and has shown good promise in the past. CAPTURE THE MOMENT (10) has shown promise in the past and can improve with novelty chances to MISS MARCOPOLO (1), WORLD COMBINATION (3) and SHESA DELIGHT (6). Tips: 8 7 5 10 Suggested Bet: ROCKY MAGUIRE (8) to win. Race 3 ECLIPSE LINE (9) did it tough last time out and would’ve lost no admirers on that performance, looks very hard to beat in this as he can sit back and be put into it when he pleases. REDDY TO FLY (6) ran into bother and still hit the line powerfully, I think this horse is ready to run a big race, but the draw makes it more challenging. JUST A PET (8) didn’t have a great deal of luck last run but thought he went well, expect him to run on nicely. NORTHERN SOUL (2) is one who can mix his form, has shown promise. BLIND EDITION (4) racing well but awkward draw. Tips: 9 6 8 2 Suggested Bet: ECLIPSE LINE/REDDY TO FLY to Exacta. Race 4 LIQUIDATOR (1) handed up last run but that was to a tough pacer, wouldn’t be surprised to see them want to lead this week and should see her run better. FOLLOW THE MUSIC (7) is a horse I think is ready to win so I must admit selfishly I would like the pole marker to lead as that will give this horse the perfect run, either way from leaders back or three the fence I am expecting him to run a big race and he closed off well last time out. KOLISI (10) will be put into it at some stage and is a good staying type. THE RIGHTEOUS (3) is racing soundly but isn’t racing with the same zest as he was 6 weeks ago. SNAKEY BAY (5) has early speed and is in top form and will likely want to be on pace again. IM ROCKIN ROD (9) had his chance last time out, back row draw makes it more challenging and expecting improvement from ADDA LOMBO (6) who looked to have something to give when running into bother. Tips: 7 10 1 3 Suggested Bet: FOLLOW THE MUSIC (7) each way. Race 5 HES THUNDER (7) is flying but this is his worst draw he could ask for; he will have to come off and around and that makes life more challenging, wouldn’t want to dive in too short. ISLAND TEE REX (2) will be looking for the top, he is mixing his form, but his best is good enough to improve. TROIS FONTAINE (9) is one of my favourites, she’s a real trier and with a run under her belt I am expecting her to run home well and the pace could suit. GOTA GOOD WARHOL (3) doesn’t know how to run a bad race but doesn’t like winning to boot. SECOND AMENDMENT (4) goes up in grade but racing well with improvement from TUX AND TAILS (6) and possibly POCKETFUL OF OPALS (5). Tips: 9 7 2 6 Suggested Bet: TROIS FONTAINE (9) each way. Race 6 Good race. TUBBS FARQUHAR (2) was a good effort last run outside of his comfort zone and has the speed to lead here and thought he could give them something to catch. HI SUGA RUSH (10) is the logical selection but thought he had every chance last time out and that was against stronger and likely improves off the run but is drawn poorly here. ITSOKTOBEGREY (1) is racing well and should be close enough to the speed and can get into the money. THOMSON BAY (8) did plenty last time out and stuck on, think he’ll be running on from the draw with STRAUNY (7) who is racing well but likes to be out in the open. MAJOR FREEWAY (4) was better last time out but map could work out tricky for him. DEL BOCAVISTA BAY (5) capitalised on the tempo last week, want to see him do it again before getting excited that he’s back to his best and REBLINE (9) was sound last time out. Tips: 2 10 1 8 Suggested Bet: TUBBS FARQUHAR (2) each way. Race 7 LIGHTFOOT LEIGH (9) looks suited in this grade and think he can be driven like the best horse and get the job done even from the back row. DEE JAYS BIG BOY (8) has put up some decent runs in his recent outings, won’t be too far away. HEAVENLY BLISS (1) has had a few chances but has the draw to feature again. NEVERTELLMETHEODDS (7) will be hoping the gap comes sooner, was relatively unlucky last time out. THEJEWELINHEREYE (3) was better last run, could be further improved. Tips: 9 8 7 1 Suggested Bet: LIGHTFOOT LEIGH (9) to win. Race 8 PATRIARCH (9) will win this by as far as he wants too, he is a class above his rivals and looks a genuine Derby contender as a 3yo, should make light work of this field. BUTTER ME UP (5) comes in first up and looks the only danger, he will head forward and look to lead early. SHES A SWEETMOVER (1), DEFEND THE RIGHT (2) and TOMORROW MAN (3) all novelty chances. Tips: 9 5 1 2 Suggested Bet: PATRIARCH/BUTTER ME UP to Exacta. Market Market
