Deane Lester’s Mornington Best Bets Posted on March 22, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO.3 STAR FALL STAR FALL resumes from a short break when he contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m) and should prove hard to beat. The three year old won three consecutive races over summer, the best of those being a win over 1100 metres at Caulfield on Boxing Day defeating subsequent stakes winner MYSTIKO and giving him 3.5kg which quickly established that he is an emerging talent. He is drawn for a good run, gets the benefit of Liam Riordan’s 3kg claim and appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 4 NO.4 TAHIATIAN DANCER Talented filly TAHITIAN DANCER resumes from a spell when she runs in the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m) and appeals as a strong winning chance. The Shane Nicholls trained filly didn’t win in four runs over spring but did finish third behind wonder filly MYSTIC JOURNEY and group winner SPANISH WHISPER in the Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last September. She has trialled well for her return to racing and has the added advantage of racing on her home track at Mornington, which is a unique track that often favours the locals. She is drawn for a great run and is well placed for a big showing. RACE 9 NO.1 MR QUICKIE MR QUICKIE has built an imposing race record in a short period of time and can continue on his winning way when he runs in the Mornington Guineas (1600m). The son of Shamus Award has had eight starts for six wins including victories at his past five outings. He made his debut for the Philip Stokes stable at Flemington on March 2 and defied the pattern of the day to come from last to record a barnstorming win over 1400 metres. He has been given time to recover from that run, will appreciate stepping up in distance and looks ideally placed under the conditions of this race. John Allen has enjoyed a stellar season in the saddle and partners MR QUICKIE for the first time. He’s a very smart horse that can record his 7th career win here. Market Market
