Deane Lester’s Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on December 27, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 3 NO.5 RYAN’S FENDER RYAN’S FENDER has returned to racing in good form and looks the one to beat again when he runs in the Open Handicap (2040m). The five year old ran a solid first-up 3rd behind KAPLUMPICH over 1600 metres at Ballarat on November 23 before a dominant win over 1800 metres at Flemington on December 14. He looks the likely leader in this small field and drops in weight on his last start win courtesy of Fred Kersley’s 1.5kg claim. He’s won 5 of his 13 starts to date and should build on that record with another win here. RACE 8 NO.2 WAGNER Last start winner WAGNER should continue on his winning way when he tackles the Open Handicap (1000m). The four year old was a dominant winner over this track and distance on November 30 and has been kept fresh for this race which he seems to appreciate. He seems to relish the 1000 metres at The Valley and elite rider Dwayne Dunn retains the ride. Whilst he rises in weight. WAGNER still looks well placed in this race and should record his sixth career victory. RACE 9 NO.14 EXQUISITE BEAUTY EXQUISITE BEAUTY should be fitter for one run back from a spell and looks a great each way chance when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m). The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained filly ran a solid first-up 3rd behind STAR SURPRISE over 1000 metres at the Pakenham city class meeting on December 7. This looks a slightly weaker race and she looks attractively weighted with 54kg against older mares. She appears to have more upside than her rivals and represents excellent each way value.
