Deane Lester’s Melbourne Cup Day Best Bets Posted on November 2, 2020November 3, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.10 YULONG RISING YULONG RISING is working up to another win and looks the value runner of the day when he contests the Benchmark 96 Handicap (2800m). The six year old worked home well when finishing 3rd behind VEGAS KNIGHT over 2000 metres at Caulfield on October 14. He drops 5kg for that run and will appreciate a step up in distance. He’s a handy stayer that ran 5th behind KING OF LEOGRANCE in this year’s Adelaide Cup which is a useful form reference for this class of race. In an even contest, YULONG RISING appears to be over the odds and should run a bold race. RACE 5 NO.2 AIN’TNODEELDUN AIN’TNODEELDUN has been racing in good form and represents the best bet of the day when he runs in the TAB Trophy (1800m). The son of Dundeel scored a spectacular win over 1600 metres at Sale two starts back before recording a tough win in the Hill-Smith Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on October 10. In that race, she defeated VICTORIA QUAY and that filly went on to win last Saturday’s Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m). It looks an irresistible formline for this race as he progresses onto better class races. The Freedman stable have been going well in recent weeks and AIN’TNODEELDUN can provide them with another winner. RACE 7 NO.21 TIGER MOTH This year’s Melbourne Cup (3200m) looks one of the strongest in recent history with a host of solid formlines, however the lightest raced horse in the field TIGER MOTH is an exciting staying talent that can provide world renowned trainer Aidan O’Brien with his first cup and champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy a fourth win in the race that stops the nation. The son of Galileo rounded off his campaign for the Cup with a stunning win in the Group 3 Kilternan Stakes (2400m) at Leopardstown on September 12. It was the run of an emerging star and, with just 52.5kg, makes plenty of appeal to win the great race. MELBOURNE CUP 1. TIGER MOTH 2. PRINCE OF ARRAN 3. ANTHONY VAN DYCK 4.
