Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on February 28, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO. 4 KING OF LEOGRANCE Imported stayer KING OF LEOGRANCE will be fitter for one run back from a spell and looks a great winning chance when he contests the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m). The Danny O’Brien trained gelding resumed with a solid second behind RYAN’S FENDER over 1800m at Caulfield on February 8. He will relish a step up in distance and appears drawn for a good run with elite jockey Damian Lane in the saddle. The five year old looks to have more upside than his rivals and appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 4 NO. 2 SYLVIA’S MOTHER SYLVIA’S MOTHER is building a fine winning record and can continue on her winning way when she runs in the Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m). The Team Hawkes trained mare has won six of her ten career starts to date and comes off a brilliant first up win in the Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 8. Whilst this is her first attempt at 1400m, the daughter of Snitzel always finishes her races strongly which suggests that the extra distance here shouldn’t pose a problem. From an inside draw, jockey Dwayne Dunn should give SYLVIA’S MOTHER a sweet run and represents the best bet of the day. RACE 8 NO. 2 FIFTY STARS FIFTY STARS is out to defend his title when he runs in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) and the five year old looks on track to win this Group 2 event for a second consecutive year. The son of Sea The Stars hit the line sweetly when finishing fourth behind ALABAMA EXPRESS in the Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 8 and will have derived great benefit from that outing. He has a very good record at Flemington, should make his own luck in this tactical race and gets the services of champion rider Craig Williams. It’s a small yet competitive field, however FIFTY STARS is well placed for another bold showing. Market Market
