Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 15, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO.5 JUST HIFALUTIN Talented mare JUST HIFALUTIN has developed into a straight track specialist and looks well placed to record her third victory down the Flemington straight when she runs in the Mares Plate (1200m). The five year old scored a stunning win over 1200 metres at Flemington two starts back before running a solid 5th behind PRINCESS OF QUEENS in the Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 9. She has been kept fresh by trainer Enver Jusofovic and looks very well placed in this race. She’s only had 15 starts for six wins with four minor placings and, whilst CLARICE CLIFFS represents the main danger, JUST HIFALUTIN appeals as the value bet of the day. RACE 3 NO.2 TALENTED Lightly raced filly TALENTED is showing plenty of promise and looks the one to beat when she contests the TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m). The daughter of Snitzel has only had two career starts for a debut win at Geelong on January 27 before a strong second behind Golden Slipper contender MICROPHONE in the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on February 16. It seems an irresistible formline for this race as she now has straight track experience and drops back to fillies grade. In-form rider Luke Currie takes the mount and TALENTED looks one of the better bets on a very tough Flemington program. RACE 9 NO.5 MASTERING The Grand Handicap Sprint (1200m) brings a close to the Flemington Festival racing and looks an ideal race for MASTERING to return to the winners list. The four year old started his summer campaign with a brilliant win at Kilmore on November 25 before a strong second behind the talented USAIN BOWLER over 1200 metres at Flemington on December 22. He recorded a narrow win over 1400 metres at Caulfield on January 5 before an unplaced effort at Flemington two weeks later. Trainer Mick Price elected to freshen the son of Smart Missile and he looked good in a trial at Cranbourne on March 4. Champion rider Damien Oliver takes the mount and MASTERING looks well suited to send Flemington punters home on a winning note. Market Market
