Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 23, 2021April 23, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.3 GIMME PAR Unfortunately the 2YO Fillies Handicap (1100m) has been decimated by scratchings as GIMME PAR will now start a very short priced favourite but should be a winning start for punters. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt has only had one start for a strong finishing second behind the multiple Group one placegetter INGRATIATING in the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on February 13. The Peter Moody trained galloper has trialled up strongly in preparations for a return to racing and looks to have more upside than her rivals. A trip to Queensland for the JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 12 is on her agenda if she runs to expectations in this race and GIMME PAR looks the standout bet of the day. RACE 6 NO.1 ALFA ORO ALFA ORO is the class runner in the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1200m) and should prove hard to beat. The five year old found the distance just too short for him when running a first-up third behind SWORD OF MERCY over 1000 metres at Caulfield on April 3. He will be fitter for that run, gets the benefit of Lachlan Neindorf’s 2kg claim and steps up to 1200 metres, a distance that he has had four starts for three wins and a second. He’ll make his own luck and looks poised to record his 7th career win from just 11 starts. RACE 9 NO.9 DON’T DOUBT DORY DON’T DOUBT DORY is a progressive type from the Julien Welsh stable that will be fitter for one run back from a spell and looks a good each way chance when he contests the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1600m). The four year old resumed with a solid third behind FIGHTING HARADA over 1300 metres at Bendigo on March 27. That looks a good form reference for this race and he will appreciate stepping up in distance. He gets the services of senior rider Patrick Moloney and looks the value bet on the Caulfield program.
