Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on January 24, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO.3 TITAN BLINDERS TITAN BLINDERS has been racing in very good form and looks the one to beat when he contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m). The four year old recorded a solid first-up win over 1100 metres at Ballarat on November 23 before subsequent placings at Flemington and Caulfield in recent weeks. The Corstens’ stable elected to give the son of All Too Hard an 800 metres jumpout at Flemington last week and he showed that he is still in very good form. He will make his own luck in this race, champion jockey Craig Williams takes the ride and TITAN BLINDERS appeals as the best bet of the day. RACE 5 NO.1 WILMOT PASS WILMOT PASS has always been a galloper of good talent that is starting to realise his potential and appears well placed to record back to back wins when he runs in the Three Year Old Handicap (1400m). The son of Rubick has only had two starts as a gelding for a luckless third over 1000 metres at Mornington on December 29 before scoring a comprehensive win over 1200 metres at Sandown Lakeside on January 8. The Anthony Freedman trained galloper is settling much better in his races this preparation which should allow him to successfully extend out to the longer distance of this race. Elite rider Mark Zahra retains the ride and should give WILMOT PASS every chance from a good draw; should prove hard to beat again. RACE 9 NO.10 SALON DU CHEVAL Former WA stayer SALON DU CHEVAL is back to his best form and looks well placed to score a hat trick of wins when he runs in the Open Handicap (2000m). The Lindsay Smith trained gelding scored a terrific first-up win in the Port Fairy Cup (1400m) at Warrnambool on December 19 before backing up and proving too strong in the Koroit Cup (1700m) at Warrnambool on January 5. He will relish a step up in distance, drops 5kg on his last run and has the capacity to make his own luck at this distance. It’s a competitive race but SALON DU CHEVAL looks to be good odds and represents the best value of the day. Market Market
