Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 26, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO.1 MANDELA EFFECT Tasmanian visitor MANDELA EFFECT is building an imposing record and looks the one to beat again when he contests the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1400m). The Scott Brunton trained gelding was won eight of his 14 starts to date including a dominant win over 1300 metres at Bendigo on March 30. He has been kept fresh since that victory which he seems to appreciate and looks well placed in this class. He gets the benefit of Lachlan King’s 2kg claim and won over this track and distance last July. He’s a progressive horse that should continue on his winning way. RACE 7 NO.8 MR QUICKIE Exciting young stayer MR QUICKIE can bounce back to winning form when he tackles the VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m). The three year old scored a brilliant first-up win over 1400 metres at Flemington on March 2 before a dominant display to win the Mornington Guineas (1600m) at Mornington on March 23. At his last start, he carried a big weight and was narrowly beaten by GRINZINGER STAR over 1600 metres at Caulfield on April 6 which is a strong reference as GRINZINGER STAR won again at Caulfield last Saturday. He takes on older horses but will relish a step up in distance and appears poised to record his eighth win from just 11 starts. RACE 9 NO.3 ICONOCLASM ICONOCLASM resumes from a spell at his first start for the Danny O’Brien stable and looks the one to beat when he runs in the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m). The four year old had a busy spring but won two significant races including the Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last October. He has had two recent jumpouts at Werribee and Flemington in preparation for this race and looks to be in good form. He is drawn to stride into this race before using his class and strength over the final stages. He’s won seven of his 15 starts to date and appeals as one of the better bets of the day. Market Market
