Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on August 5, 2022August 5, 2022 | Posted by Darren Clayton Race 1 WATTS UP SUNSHINE (10) went looking for short cuts along the inside last start as The Honey Queen swept home to score and he was 6m adrift. Finding the line nicely behind Beyond Delight the start prior, this looks up for grabs. ROCKIN WITH ELVIS (11) joins the Shane Graham yard after being left in Qld following the Carnival. Best of the rest as Bettor Isolate decimated them in the JC McMullen last start, he might be trying to snare a cart into the battle. THE RACONTUER (3) held the front here last week but after copping plenty of heat, took cover but the haranguing had taken its toll as he faded. Finding respite will be best for his chances. OBI ONE (4) put in his worst run for some time last week but there were circumstances behind it as he was forced to work. He can be sharper. Selections: 10-11-3-4 Suggested Bet: WATTS UP SUNSHINE (10) to win Race 2 SQUIRE (8) was revved up here last week and bullied his way to the front at the 1000m. With a first half of 56.6 he was always going to be susceptible in the stretch. Digging in for the fight to be 8m in arrears, it will be a cosy trip on offer this time. TIZ A SIZZLER (7) dropped to the rear from this same alley at the 2138m last week before rounding them up wide off the track where his individual closing panels were super. The tough gate is the obvious concern, but he has returned from a long layoff in fine fettle. PARAVANI (1) backs up from Tuesday where he fired out from gate 5 to set the tempo before being nabbed up the passing lane by his stablemate. This is a step up from that grade, but the gate helps. THREE IN HEAVEN (10) will be fresh since his last appearance where he worked hard in the run as Big Wheels landed the prize, with the gate not doing him any favours. Selections: 8-7-1-10 Suggested Bet: SQUIRE (8) to win Race 3 JERADAS DEIGHT (1) has been super in recent starts without securing a win for her efforts. Driven upside down in the Golden Girl owing to a lack of tempo, it was a strong 3rd with some luck also conspiring against her in recent attempts. She can be leaders back to stalk the speed in what is likely her last Queensland appearance. MACH DA VINCI (2) tried to take them all the way over the 2680m when finishing just 4m from the dead-heating I Cast No Shadow and Crime Writer. He has the hustle and back to the mile will look to dictate terms. CRUNCH TIME (4) will take a good look off the arm in search of the front. The 2138m was just out of reach here last week from gate 1 with a return to the mile a big plus. COLT THIRTY ONE (10) was trying to make a late rally in the stretch last week when 4m from the passing lane winner Star Galleria. The gate stings in search of career win 50. Selections: 1-2-4-10 Suggested Bet: JERADAS DEIGHT (1) to win Race 4 THE IRISH EAGLE (1) was building towards a win after some handy efforts and was able to capitalise last time out at Redcliffe when powering over the top. That was a good reward, with this gate opening all the options. MISTERY ROAD (5) has been in the money at his past five in succession with four minors and a win. That victory came where he sat parked and did it the tough way, the likely map he faces again for this. TEAGAN BANNER (4) was first to the poles last start before taking cover and then trying to land the closing shot was outsprinted by One Big Shew off his back. NICKS PICK (10) will be fresh up here and faces an ask from this gate. With a nice change of hoof, tempo will be his friend. Selections: 1-5-4-10 Suggested Bet: THE IRISH EAGLE (1) to win Race 5 DANCE IN THE SUN (1) did not have the speed to lead last week and once left exposed was then facing an uphill challenge that proved too steep. From the tight alley, she looks set to be in front and #LeaderPeter can do his thing. WINONA WRITER (9) struck trouble here last week that ended her night and overall, she is not getting the reward for her efforts. Securing the right trail at the start will aid her chances. INFINITY BEACH (3) laid out an impressive closing 800m here last week, not aided by the fact she was so far off them at the 400m. Settling closer will help. LADY AVANA (5) is also a mare racing much better than her figure form suggests. A second line draw when chasing Sugar For My Honey did not help the cause last time and she again cops a stiff gate. Selections: 1-9-3-5 Suggested Bet: DANCE IN THE SUN (1) to win Race 6 GENERAL MONTANA (3) led them up last start and after being stared down by Teddy Disco in the run, had no answer for the talented 3YO. Trying to see it out here two starts back when finishing 3rd where 1st and 2nd sniped up the lane, this looks a perfect opportunity. ASTERISM (1) finished a head in arrears of Jenden Strike last time a similar map presented, that being just three starts back. He will stalk the speed here to wait for his cues. RYANS GANGSTER (8) was beaten by gate 5 here on Tuesday when retreating early for the poles. The fence looks a good place for this contest. FALCONS (10) was doing his best work last week once the race was already in the bag for the winner. He will be waiting for clear track to drop the clutch. Selections: 3-1-8-10 Suggested Bet: Exotics 3 / 1-8-10/ 1-8-9-10 Race 7 BALLERINI (2) will be hoping to secure position while limiting the workload as she chases a hat-trick. Too slippery up the passing lane last week, two runs back she swept home wide out to defy gate 7. Position looks vital. OUR ROAD TO MECCA (1) looms large from this gate after both Qld runs this campaign have been from wider alleys. Searching for a gap that never arrived first up, she found the line in good order last start. SLICK SOPHIE (7) carved it out in front last week to take a qualifier when finding the poles and taking them all the way. The gate has done her no favours in chasing a repeat. IAMAJOYRIDE (4) was beaten by gate 6 last week after retreating to secure position. Close up behind Beyond Delight two runs back, she is not without hope. Selections: 2-1-7-4 Suggested Bet: BALLERINI (2) to win Race 8 CALA JANE (1) may be only 1 from 9 on this deck, but closer analysis reveals that she has never had any luck in snaring a gate. The one time she landed this marble was three runs back where she took the passing lane shot and conditions look ideal for a repeat. JENDEN STRIKE (5) is still chasing a win in this qualifying grade despite being far from disgraced in open company in recent attempts. Running some slick individual splits behind Star Galleria last week, back to this grade is a huge plus. SHES MISS DEVINE (3) was making her first appearance as a 4YO last week, where the run was full of merit after taking off at the 900m to get forward. From this alley she can fire some early bullets. GIRL FROM OZ (8) was returning from a let up last time out and chased in vain behind Slick Sophie. She will be probing off the smother run. Selections: 1-5-3-8 Suggested Bet: CALA JANE (1) to win Race 9 OUR BONDI BEACH (1) secures the perfect gate for his preferred pattern and should secure the perfect trip and opposition to carve out another victory. 3rd to Ballerini and then Sam Is Perfection, this profiles ideally. MAFUTA VAUTIN (7) stuck to the inside here last week where from three poles he was able to grab 2nd. Sectionally his efforts have been good in recent weeks as he chases his first win of the season, but gate 7 raises the bar. NOTORIOUS (2) steps into veterans’ company for the first time with not the greatest numbers against his name. He lands his chance to fire off the arm and look for a sharper return. SO BOBS YOUR UNCLE (3) was making some nice metres chasing Sam Is Perfection last start. Best suited for a closing shot, finding position will be key. Selections: 1-7-2-3 Suggested Bet: OUR BONDI BEACH (1) to win Race 10 KING OF THE NORTH (2) has nice change up speed and secures his chance to step up to Saturday night company after completing a hat-trick of wins on the mid-week circuit. His latest win was over this trip and from the front tape in tight, will prove tough to stop. JUSTABITNOISY (1) is honest and consistent and from this lane should be safely away and find himself in a perfect spot. Strong to the line up the lane last start, he maps for a similar trip. VAN SANK (7) has been sectionally superb through the carnival in the mobile events but just found himself too far back in the pack. Stepping cleanly will be a huge assistance to his chances. WEE MAN TROUBLE (8) cops the big back mark, but he is safe and if he can make up the handicap without working too hard, cannot be ignored. Selections: 2-1-7-8 Suggested Bet: KING OF THE NORTH (2) to win Market Market
