Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on August 13, 2021August 13, 2021 | Posted by Darren Clayton RACE 1 CRUNCH TIME (9) brutalised his opponents last week when pressing forward to take control and run them into the ground in a 1.51.6 mile. He looks ready to step up to FFA company. COLT THIRTY ONE (7) looked to have every chance to win last week after walking them in front but was snipped up the passing lane. Back to the mile from this gate is a big ask, but he is too classy to write off. MAYWYNS BEST (6) does his best when sent to the front and from the wide gate he can be put into the battle to make a play. TOMMY LINCOLN (3) was large last start when sitting parked and proving too strong in claiming a 3m victory. This is a rise in grade, but he can finish in the money. TIPS: 9-7-6-3 SUGGESTED BET: CRUNCH TIME (9) to win RACE 2 SMOKIN BY (6) was attacking the line powerfully last start in a stronger contest than he faces here. There looks the right tempo for him to descend on them. KASH US BACK (7) was facing a task last week from this alley when Crunch Time had them rolling. With a rub of the green, he can challenge. MIDNIGHT MAN (3) has the early speed to get forward early and up on the speed looms as a big place chance. CAPTAIN KIRK (1) will appreciate an improved barrier after a tough run of late- his run 2 back was luckless when running up behind them and he is in the mix. TIPS: 6-7-3-1 SUGGESTED BET: SMOKIN BY (6) to win RACE 3 SAM IS PERFECTION (8) may not have the numbers to match but is racing in great fashion with the hoof right on the till. The gate is tricky, but he only needs a half gap to swoop on them. AT WEST POINT (3) provides the tempo for this contest, likely to take control and keep them rolling. From the front he will be trying to fight them off. VINNY CHASE (10) was 2nd here last start when finishing off strongly and despite the tough gate will be hitting the line hard again. CASINO TOMMY (4) went around in FFA company last start so a drop back to veterans’ grade will suit. TIPS: 8-3-10-4 SUGGESTED BET: SAM IS PERFECTION (8) to win RACE 4 VOODOO LOU (6) has placed at her past 2 starts and importantly can work in her races if required. That looks the scenario here from the tough gate but looks up to the task. MORESCO (9) has a good record over the middle-distance and is hitting good form after successive wins. Pressing through early can see her challenge. AJAY BREEZY ROSE (7) faces the tough gate but the main chances in this mares contest all look to have drawn wide or off the second line and despite a small query over her running a strong 2138m she can feature. FEELS LIKA WINNER (10) will be looking for a cart into the battle but if that is provided, she shapes as a good place chance.TIPS: 6-9-7-10 SUGGESTED BET: VOODOO LOU (6) to win RACE 5 LIFE LAVROS (10) is in super form with 3 wins at his past 4 starts, the only miss coming when 2nd to another equally in form horse in Our Action Man. There should be sufficient tempo for him to arrive. MAKE MINE MEMPHIS (1) delivered a first over crush here 2 starts back after sitting parked and grinding out a strong victory. Close up behind Mach Da Vinci last week, he has the gate to challenge. MISTERFREEZE (9) will take good benefit from his last start where he was returning from a let up when down the line behind Crunch Time and trailing through early can be finishing hard. THE ANNOUNCER (6) cannot land a marble and comes up with another wide gate, yet he was still able to claim victory from a terrible gate here 3 back and just needs some tempo to be chiming in. TIPS: 10-1-9-6 SUGGESTED BET: LIFE LAVROS (10) to win RACE 6 WAHS FIRE BUG (1) was closing out nicely last start when finishing as the runner-up behind Life Lavros. The gate gives her the options to capitalise. FAIRY TINKABELL (10) is yet to miss the money in 5 starts in Queensland, finishing 2nd to the impressive TOMMY LINCOLN at her past 2 starts and just needs a suitable tempo to throw down a big challenge. SAUCY DREAMS (5) loves to run the mile hard and will be sent forward off the arm here to take control in trying to take them all the way. ARMA NAUGHTY (9) is racing in good touch without landing a victory. With the right trip, she can be close enough to grab a minor. TIPS: 1-10-5-9 SUGGESTED BET: WAHS FIRE BUG (1) to win RACE 7 CAT KING COLE (1) looks to be in a different league to her rivals, looking to secure her 2nd G1 of the season. With all the favours from the draw, she has a firm grip on the trophy. CLASS TO THE MAX (6) is already a Group winner in his own right this season but he looks likely to be required to work at some stage to make his play. I AM SPARTA (8) has mixed his ability with some costly errors this season but looks set for the cosy trip behind the speed, ready to make his challenge when the gaps present in the stretch. MY ULTIMATE LEVI (9) was runner up to Cat King Cole in the heats and dropping to three poles looks a strong play to chime in.TIPS: 1-6-8-9 SUGGESTED BET: Flexi Trifecta 1 / 6-8-9 RACE 8 KING TRITON (8) was trying to lead throughout at his last start when pipped at the post in a narrow defeat. He goes from hunted to hunter here and can make the closing shot a winner. OHOKA CHOPPER (2) will start from gate 1 for this contest and is a gate speed horse so will get his chance to look for a dictating victory. MISTER DIAMOND (3) has been able to place at his past 5 in succession, the latest when a tough 3rd after obliged to face the breeze and settling handy to the speed can feature once again. WESTAR SAM (9) takes his first look at Albion Park with the option to dart down to the poles looking a good play and he looms as a place hope from that position. TIPS: 8-2-3-9 SUGGESTED BET: KING TRITON (8) to win RACE 9 CAPTAIN CRUSADER (9) could not land a marble through the Constellations but that did not stop him from running some mighty races including a 2m 2nd to American Dealer in the Qld Derby. He looks to hold the class edge. SOHO SINATRA (1) found some late ground in a slick closing 400m split here 2 starts back and followed that with a tidy effort behind Life Lavros. The gate is a big plus. SIMON (2) was charging home in the closing stages here on Tuesday when beaten a nose following a run where he looked to lead throughout. He is racing well enough to feature in the money. DOUBLE OR NOTHING (8) is bursting to win a race but again faces a tough gate. Attacking the line with power last week after retreating from gate 7, he will be searching for gaps here.TIPS: 9-1-2-8 SUGGESTED BET: CAPTAIN CRUSADER (9) to win RACE 10 MAJESTIC SIMON (10) threw his chances away last week when making a costly error at the start. He set the tempo in the Queensland Trotters Cup but could not hold off the big guns and if he can get the start right, will be mighty hard to hold out. NORTHERN MUSCLE (9) was trying to make a forward run in the recent DJA Final but stalled as they approached the 400m. 20m looks a nice impost for him to challenge in this grade. SIR FAHRENHEIT (7) should appreciate the absence of the big guns that he has bumped into in recent starts through the Carnival. Stepping safely can see him in the mix here. MORE SHADES OF GOLD (6) was out in front last start in an improved effort when only 4m from the winner Our Overanova and can feature again.TIPS: 10-9-7-6 SUGGESTED BET: MAJESTIC SIMON (10) to win Market Market About Darren Clayton Darren provides Racing Queensland with his expert form analysis, tips and speedmaps for all TAB races in Queensland.
