Chris Nelson’s Saturday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on November 14, 2024November 14, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Mooloolaba Cup Day kicks off this year’s summer racing carnival in Queensland which will take us right through to Magic Millions Day in early January. Suggest the track will be rain affected however to what degree is completely unknown until race day, our weather is very unpredictable of late. We get the day under way with the youngsters & I’m leaning to the Gollan pair of FORMULA ROSSA & TILIA who both did enough at their respective trials to rate highly on debut. The race experienced pair LUVA FLUTTA & CUDDLES FOR KIMMY next best. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: Keep a close eye on market moves. RACE 2 Happy to stick with EXOTIQUE MISS who yes did let me down a couple of weeks back when leading at Eagle Farm. Once the chips were down in the straight she was quickly under pressure & faded out of the finish. Possible excuses were the strong tempo she set, taking on open company or perhaps leading may not be her thing. I’m more than happy to give her another chance as her two previous runs were both good ones. AERIAL DANCER bolted in last start, likely rolls forward, hard to beat once again. INDY ROSE WARRIOR is a versatile type who stuck on well last start. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet: EXOTIQUE MISS TO WIN. RACE 3 With American President a scratching, only I Am Artie & En Pointe map to go forward, should that end up being the case this race could be run at a very leisurely tempo. I AM ARTIE has to be the one to beat with that being the likely scenario, narrowly defeated last start when going for 6 straight wins he lost no admirers & note Bettcha The Crown who nailed him on the line that day has since won again. BEWS was a cracking win first up for the Kendrick yard overcoming difficulties I the run, does get back, will there be enough speed up front? OUR MAGNUS I the mix however he’s had too many chances for my liking. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: I AM ARTIE TO WIN/SAVER BEWS. RACE 4 I’m hoping JEALOUS doesn’t drift too far back in the run here & the wide gate doesn’t help however she’s looking for ground & gets to 1800m today on a big, spacious track. She’s found the line well at each of her past 3 starts & if close enough to pounce in the straight lookout! AICHI ICON is only lightly raced & progressing nicely whilst stable mate MAJORIAN was scratched out of a suitable looking affair at Doomben on Wednesday to be saved for this, the wetter the track the better his chances. Numbers: 16 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: JEALOUS EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 Keen on the chances of TRANSATLANTIC second up from a break. Well supported when resuming he was certainly there to win however the 1200m may have been a little too short & he didn’t have the clearest of runs down the straight. 1400m today looks ideal & keep in mind he is unbeaten second-up. MISS JOELENE is the class runner of the field having placed in a Roses & Oaks last winter, fitter now. Ditto OCEAN ZAR who loomed to win fresh just peaking a little late, stays at the same trip. Numbers: 9 – 12 – 13 – 1 Suggested Bet: TRANSATLANTIC TO WIN. RACE 6 Very tough looking race where I’m leaning to the consistent NAVAL TRADER however with very limited confidence as there are cases to be made for many runners in the race. Drawn well he maps positively & in these types of races the horses with the best runs in the race invariably win, just be wary should the track be on the worst side of soft. REDFORD is back off a short let-up, plenty of upside, big market watch. SUBSTANTIAL in the mix as are many others. Numbers: 9 – 12 – 8 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Very competitive affair for the 3yo’s, honestly it’s hard to knock any runner here. I’m going to lean to APAUNTAR as his form of late has been consistent, by the same token though I’d prefer to see him rising in distance instead of coming back 100m. BIG watch on the resuming CAN’T RECALL ONE who was out of the money in the Sires & J J Atkins behind Broadsiding, fair to say this is a fair bit easier & he’d done nothing wrong prior. BEAU DAZZLER a chance on his best form, can he reproduce that though? Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The Mooloolaba Cup is today’s feature race & I’m leaning to POETIC DRAMA who won very well on her home track first up, she then found herself in an unwinnable race (no tempo) before just missing out the latest when if able to gain clear running at the top of the straight would have won. BROOKHAVEN will give a start however should the tempo be solid he’s going to charge at them late. No knock JUNIPAL whilst DUNE FORTY FIVE is right in the mix as well, he’s had one go here at this trip for a win which was in this exact race 12 months ago. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: POETIC DRAMA EACH-WAY. RACE 9 I’m a big wrap for the consistent mare SHALAA’S MOMENT who resumes & is unbeaten fresh to date having won all 3 starts. She was totally dominant winning her first 3 outings last prep before unlucky the fourth & game against the tempo prior to going for a break. She will get back however she can produce a huge finish. STEADY READY will either lead or box seat off the rails gate, trialling well he’ll be in the finish as will another first upper GOLDEN BOOM who does enjoy racing here. NETTUNO best of the ‘real’ wet trackers. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: SHALAA’S MOMENT EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Real lottery to wind up the big day. I’ll be monitoring the market moves & should there be some support for the resuming SILVA ‘N’ SUAVE I’m happy to follow it in to a limited degree. Nothing wrong with a couple of his runs at the initial prep & I didn’t mind the look of his recent trial when certainly not punished. GIN A TONIC much better placed dropping back in distance can improve sharply, MISHANI ALOHA not out of it. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
