Chris Nelson’s Saturday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on January 22, 2026January 22, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Main meeting in Queensland on Saturday takes place at the Sunshine Coast where the track should be rated good or very close to it & the weather fine. Keen on the chances of (1) STAR OF JAMAICA in this opening event who hasn’t raced since mid-December when unlucky at Eagle Farm. Heavily supported on that occasion when making his debut he missed the start before zooming up to park outside the leader, unfortunately that early effort told in the straight, he just couldn’t hold off the winner. Back to the trials when winning expect him on speed today & very hard to get past. (5) ON THE CLOCK & (3) DUSTEE have shown up at their trials, monitor betting. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: STAR OF JAMAICA TO WIN. RACE 2 (4) ENTERPRISE PRIVATE aims up for the hat trick of wins here & I’m suggesting he can do just that. Strong winning at Murwillumbah two back he brought that form to town sprinting strongly to score at Doomben over this exact trip. He rises in the weights for this however has been lumping big imposts all prep, can’t see that holding him back. (3) PRINCE LEVI & (7) FARWEST will drift back, that’s their pattern, should the tempo be there to suit they are always winning chances, will it be though? Numbers: 4 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: ENTERPRISE PRIVATE TO WIN. RACE 3 (5) DIAMOND EPIC comes out of Race 5 to go around in this where she takes on 1800m for the first time. She’s not really bred to run it & that last start closing effort wasn’t the strongest although in her defence she had 59.5kg. The 3kg claim helps here however she’s a bit short in the market with that distance concern. Problem is I can’t find anything likely to beat her so on top she goes however not at a short quote. (1) LAST CHANCE SALOON runs the trip based on the effort two back, excuses last start, looks the logical danger. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 11 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 2 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Difficult race as they are all carrying big weights. I’ll lean to the first-up (15) VELOZES however with very little confidence. She’s a mare who has always looked to have above average ability, is a lead-up trial winner & from the good gate will secure a soft run for Emily Lang. (2) ESTRONDO has come back well, the 61kg is the concern though, 6kg more than his recent winning weight. (11) DREAM LANTERN not out of it either, nor are a lot of others! Numbers: 15 – 2 – 11 – 13 Suggested Bet: Wide, wide exotics! RACE 5 Low tempo on paper could be a concern for the likes of (6) QUOTHQUAN however I’ll leave him on top & hope they run along. He showed his staying prowess winning the 2000m Townsville Cup at the end of his last prep & as per usual hit the line very strongly when a first up fourth at Eagle Farm earlier this month. If close enough to strike in the straight he can! (7) NAILS MURPHY gets in well with the 3kg claim considering he ran two placings at this level recently before winning here & gets in with less weight than at any of those runs. I cannot for the life of me catch (1) GALIFIANAKIS however should he turn up in the right frame of mind he’s always a chance. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: QUOTHQUAN/NAILS MURPHY TO WIN. RACE 6 Happy to have something each-way on the Tony Gollan trained (10) READY FOR AIMEE who has been out of luck her past couple of runs. Held-up badly at Ipswich two back she then struck interference near the 600m at Doomben losing momentum before getting going again late finishing on the heels of the placegetters. (6) FINANCIALLY FAMOUS was far from disgraced in a stronger race fresh before finishing strongly to win at Doomben last Saturday, slight rise in trip a plus. (5) CARBONARA has struck winning form at last & from the pole gate is a definite hat trick chance. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet: READY FOR AIMEE EACH-WAY. RACE 7 (14) ARABIAN ROSE is a promising mare with an excellent record here on her home circuit. She’s raced here at 5 of her 10 career starts winning on 4 occasions with one (of one) over today’s 1400m trip. I’d expect a cold ride with cover from Daniel Moor here before letting her rip in the straight. Gate 1 for (4) BOHEMIAN LAD who also holds a good record here, Maloney to ride is a good positive pointer & this is a good deal easier than last start. (9) DIANA’S AFFAIR a place chance at odds. Numbers: 14 – 4 – 9 – 16 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The day’s feature is the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup over 1400m. (1) ROCKRIBBED should cross & lead, (14) ESJAY the other obvious on pacer however he’s not that speedy from the gates & alley 1 may not work in his favour? I’m with (6) ANEMACORE who put in a terrific run behind ROCKRIBBED last start running home hard in a race not run to suit plus he sat wide throughout. He meets ROCKRIBBED 5kg better at the weights for the 1 length defeat & if close half way down the straight enough look out! (5) PEREILLE couldn’t have been ridden any better from a wide gate by Ben Thompson however last start he just missed, another wide draw awaits today. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 14 – 5 Suggested Bet: ANEMACORE TO WIN. RACE 9 (4) HELL is very quick & will make very light work of the wide draw here, expect him to charge across & lead (14) JONNY DA WOLF, there’s every chance they could park 1 – 2 from barrier to box! I had (10) GIVE GIGGLES down as the top tip however she’s more likely to race at the Gold Coast on Friday night. I’ll stick with (4) HELL who is fully fit & again aided by a claim although the bigger weights don’t concern me as much in the short sprints. We know (14) JONNY DA WOLF will be right up there whilst (9) MISTER BIANCO can also take up a position from his good draw, very consistent is a winner here from only the one appearance. Numbers: 4 – 14 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 10 To the last where the lightly raced (14) YOYO YEEZY will be well fancied, that’s certainly the case in the early markets. He’s a promising type who has the numbers & upside to win, what he may not have is the gate, there looks good speed & he may get posted. There is only one turn around this 1000m course which will help. (8) VINDICTA showed plenty last prep & comes up with a good draw to launch late, market? At odds (6) THE FIXER is worth including, very good fresh at a lower level he probably shouldn’t be the price he’s gone up in early markets. Numbers: 14 – 8 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: YOYO YEEZY TO WIN ($2.50 or better). Market Market
