Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on August 25, 2023August 25, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Keen on the chances of TAKE THE KITTY in this week’s Highway although he might need a little luck on his side from the inside draw considering his pattern is to race off speed. He won two straight before a couple of unlucky Randwick efforts when held up, hopefully that’s all about to change here. MELODY AGAIN is getting closer, this suits apart from the weight rise. MISS THATCHER generally rolls forward, not last time when drawing poorly, she did hit the line well though, quite versatile. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet: TAKE THE KITTY TO WIN (small bet) RACE 2 TRAVELLING KATE just prevailed over WINEGLASS BAY here a fortnight back however with a 2kg weight turnaround in the latter’s favour I’m leaning his way. He should be right at his peak fourth run back from a break & he draws the inside gate which suggests a soft run is likely. TOO MUCH CAVIAR didn’t quite finish off last run however has won his only start out to this trip, he can improve into the placings. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: WINEGLASS BAY TO WIN RACE 3 I’m either loyal or stupid sticking with GRACILISTYLA, the answer is likely obvious! He really hasn’t put in a bad run of late, he just has no luck & could have won multiples times this prep should things had panned out more favourably. He’s had 5 different riders at his 5 starts this campaign & now it’s Nash Rawiller’s turn, go get em’ Nash! WATEGOS is flying, all the way winner last start has won out to this trip will give them plenty to get past. Respect for MARQUESS, in the right hands & going for 4 straight wins. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: GRACILISTYLA TO WIN (small bet) RACE 4 Very open looking Midway. Going very wide putting SATNESS on top who came off a couple of successive provincial wins to place here a fortnight back beaten just over a length after a chequered run down the straight. He doesn’t win often so happy to take the each-way. LA VESUVIUS lines up for his fourth straight win, liked the way he went about it first up at Muswellbrook albeit very green. ELETTRICA is always around the money, wins don’t come easily for her though. Numbers: 15 – 7 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: SATNESS EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 5 Last start winner SMASHING EAGLE gets the nod here. Just loved the way he dashed through a gap in the straight powering clear in the run to the line. Consistent all prep there’s no reason he can’t go on & make it two straight. TRISTATE obviously has the strong form line coming through the Olentia race last start, although no match for her (no disgrace) he continued his very consistent form this time in. HARD TO SAY was dominant first up, second up record not as strong. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: SMASHING EAGLE TO WIN RACE 6 CALL DI drifted a little in the market first up & all reports pre-race suggested she would need the run. That may well have been the case however she still ran well to beat all bar the winner & with that fitness improvement will prove tough to beat today. HOWGOODAREYOU, well at this stage she’s well named as we’re not really sure! Two wins & a Saturday grade placing suggest she’s got plenty of ability, sticky map though as she’s a leader who’s drawn out. FEARNOUGHT continues to race consistently. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: CALL DI TO WIN RACE 7 First of the 3yo features where I’m sticking with CABALLUS who would have won last start if not for being caught in a pocket down the straight, once clear he wound up & ran home well. He does take on some nice types here though who are kicking off hopefully successful spring campaigns however does hold a fitness edge. Always had time for DUCASSE, wouldn’t be the least surprised to see him run a race here fresh from the inside gate. TOM KITTEN resumes with some strong form lines. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet: CABALLUS TO WIN (saver DUCASSE) RACE 8 With CIGAR FLICK a scratching I’ll lean to the stablemate KANDINSKY ABSTRACT however he will need luck from his wide draw. Purchased for a whopping 3 million he won well at Canterbury on debut back in May, many thought he’d head to the Queensland sunshine for the Group races however connections decided to keep him on ice until the spring. Well, here he is & his trials have been good. Like the look of CORNICHE’s form lines, beat the Slipper winner Shinzo prior to spelling & has trialled well. Thought INTRODUCING was very good first up on speed, strips fitter. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 9 Liked the first up run from MISSION PHOENIX here a fortnight back closing late over 1400m. His overall record & that run suggests he’s now looking for further however I’m of the opinion he can still run well. There’s no Pericles & Madame Pommery this time, the third placed GLINT OF SILVER is engaged however draws wide & may have to work, he’s right in it for mine! KALINO has won up to a mile, might be what he’s now chasing? Numbers: 4 – 12 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet: MISSION PHOENIX EACH-WAY RACE 10 DIAMOND DEALER had zero luck first two runs this prep being caught wide from outside draws. She finally came up with a decent alley last start & although no match for the winner Olentia we must keep in mind Chris Waller has spoken of that mare being a future Group 1 horse. Good gate, no weight, hard to beat. MUNITIONS seems big odds, can be hard to catch however wasn’t far from Omni Man last start & that one is going around in good company down south this afternoon. HELL I AM can run a race fresh. Numbers: 12 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: DIAMOND DEALER EACH-WAY Market Market
