Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on August 29, 2024August 29, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Feature racing once again in Sydney on Saturday with a couple of Group races for the 3yo’s highlighting the day at Rosehill. We kick things off with a Midway where I’m suggesting something each-way DR EVIL who was definitely working up to a win before pulling up lame here a fortnight back. The step up to 1800m definitely suits however he will need a touch of luck from the wide draw. AGITA has had the one run back & note is a second up winner, include. Race gets very open from there on. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: DR EVIL EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Happy to stick with SEQUESTERED who although unlucky not to finish closer to the winner last start after being held up I’m not convinced would have won or was a ‘good thing beaten’. She has found the line at both runs back in strong fashion though & the step up to 1500m this afternoon looks ideal. VIVY AIR will have plenty of admirers, she was heavily backed before being scratched first up delaying her return a week, just looked a little one paced at the 1200m suggesting further suits however sharply to 1500m? ZARROSE has come back in good order & can definitely measure up. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet: SEQUESTERED TO WIN. RACE 3 The Highway looks as open as ever. Had the race been 1300m or less SUPER NORWEST would be the obvious however she’s now up to 1400m & sectionally isn’t the strongest at the end of her races, might have to look away the final 100m if you’re on her! Maybe something very small each-way BALLINDERRY SAL who is the opposite, she can really find the line, gate no help however with the claim will carry no weight. VOLCANIC LOVE also in the mix, this is a very difficult looking race. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: BALLINDERRY SAL EACH-WAY (very small bet). RACE 4 ENOTIS clearly gets the nod at his fourth run back from a break. Didn’t have the best of runs here last start when chasing home Etna Rosso who won well & is destined for better things. RISE TO IT went south last start & improved significantly at Flemington, he’s a winner here at 1800m & has ticked the 2000m box. WALTHAM is one to keep an eye on, import who resumes over the staying trip which should be favourable, trials have been sound. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet: ENOTIS TO WIN. RACE 5 HIGH BLUE SEA put in a terrific run here a fortnight back sitting wide without cover throughout. He only went down narrowly in a blanket finish & although this is a stronger race he’s in the mix on an each-way basis. UNUSUAL LEGACY will have plenty of supporters, resuming with a good overall record from the dominant stable he just draws a little awkwardly though, will they elect to go all the way back? UP AND UNDER was an eye-catcher first up, will appreciate the longer trip today. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: HIGH BLUE SEA EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 6 First of the features is the San Domenico where the highly rated STORM BOY makes his return to the track. I’m siding with the race fit GATSBY’S who was so impressive winning the Rosebud here a fortnight back. Put away by Chris Waller in the autumn with this time of year in mind he will have improvement to come which spells danger for his rivals. Can’t wait to see what STORM BOY does, to many the jury is out with him, much hyped I wouldn’t say he’s disappointed, he ran 3rd in a Slipper! MAYFAIR & PERSPIRATION in the mix. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 I’m convinced we saw a potential top liner in AUTUMN GLOW here on debut 2 weeks ago. Purchased for a lofty 1.8 million at the sales Tyler Schiller was content to park off speed knowing exactly what he had underneath him before letting rip in the straight where she comfortably took care of her rivals. Expect a repeat performance today. AXIUS was strong to line when winning last start at Canterbury & has some good form lines around him, additional 100m ideal. SNACK BAR is consistent & will give his best, well drawn which see him land the right run. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: AUTUMN GLOW TO WIN. RACE 8 CEOWOLF is clearly the most progressive & promising horse going around in this race & it’s hard to take him on with J. Mac to steer however is 1500m second-up going to be far enough for him? He found the line very well first up over 1400m behind Tom Kitten however 1600m plus may be more suitable? I’ll go with the in form & very consistent RISE AT DAWN who makes the trip up from Victoria, goes forward in his races, strikes his pet distance range & lightly weighted. BIG watch LAND LEGEND who won the St Leger here at his only start in the country back in 2023, likely finds this too short however keeping on the safe side. Numbers: 13 – 5 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Very competitive race where the ultra-consistent BUBBA’S BAY looks the safe option. Should be just about peaking third run back from a break, races on speed, draws well & will carry no more weight after the claim. Hardest to beat SHEZANALISTER who now has a Group placing on her C.V. running 3rd in the Missile here a fortnight ago, another with a good alley & did have valid excuses the run prior. Gate 1 for KIBOU looks ideal whilst PIASTRI continues to race very consistently. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 5 – 14 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 10 Winning form is good form & the unbeaten resuming BRIASA has plenty of that winning all 3 starts at his initial prep. He warmed up for his return today with a soft trial win just coasting past the well performed Spacewalk however in all fairness that runner was also given an easy time. There’s no Spacewalk’s going around in this race. HEADWALL was a big winner first up albeit on a heavy track, another with a good record. BLANC DE BLANC an interesting runner, showed good ability as a 2yo trials have been sound & J. Mac engaged to steer is a good pointer. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: BRIASA TO WIN.
