Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on March 28, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Outstanding day of racing coming up once again at Rosehill kicking off with a 1300m Midway which looks a very open affair, suggest luck will play a major role in the result. I’ll lean to BLACK DUKE who looked to have every chance last start & was disappointing on face value. Dropping back to 1200m & being on the inside both factors which may have worked against him. FIELD WIRI in the mix should she gain a start, ran on well last time out in the same race as PEAK who also found the line. Many, many chances here. Numbers: 3 – 18 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 LITTLE MIX had accepted for both this & the Group 1 Tancred with this easier Group 3 affair winning out. She’s had the 3 runs back from a break & should be right at her peak today, loved the way she found the line last week over 100m shorter. ZEYREK comes through last week’s Ranvet where he was never going to be a match for the likes of Via Sistina however was less than 3 lengths away. Wouldn’t overlook SERPENTINE who will lead & no doubt give a good kick. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: LITTLE MIX EACH-WAY. RACE 3 ANODE will push forward from the wide gate here & if able to slide across without using too much gas should prove hard to run down. Liked the way he stuck to his task all the way down the straight in the 1200m Pago Pago a fortnight back & he was closing the margin on the line, 1400m now shapes up as an ideal trip. LINEBACKER is the ‘wildcard’, big wraps on him leading into his Hawkesbury debut where he bolted in on heavy ground, straight to Group 3 the stable wouldn’t be here unless they were confident of a forward showing. SILMARILLION next best. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: ANODE TO WIN. RACE 4 Interesting race. I’m going to throw barriers/reputations out the window & side with the maligned TANNHAUSER who hasn’t managed a placing at his past 4 starts which isn’t a great recommendation. He’s gets back so the barrier makes little difference & I just liked what he did late in the Phar Lap which is obviously a much stronger race than many of these come through. By Dundeel the 2000m should suit, we’ll find out just how genuine he is today. KINTYRE may be a query at the trip, his form lines are well up to winning this should he run it out. No knock WYMARK, faces a tougher task here however can only win & he’s been doing that in fine style. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet: TANNHAUSER EACH-WAY. RACE 5 No doubt MAKARENA will prove tough to beat here at her peak & drawn the inside gate, Tim Clark will give her every possible. The one box she hasn’t ticked though is the ‘beyond 1400m box’ & my gut feel is she could be vulnerable late. If that is the case who is capable of a big finishing burst? VIENNA PRINCESS fits that category perfectly, Silver Eagle winner, not far away in a Golden Eagle she comes back from a Group 1 & will appreciate the firmer ground. HINGED is never far away & her latest was good, long time between drinks though. Numbers: 6 – 13 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: VIENNA PRINCESS EACH-WAY RACE 6 LIBERTAD on an each-way basis appeals here in a race of many chances. He’s had the two runs back from a break & was a definite eye-catcher second up after pulling up with cardiac issues fresh. The inside gate sees him no worse than midfield with a positive ride early on & yes, he will need luck to get through in the straight however should it come, look out! SHINZO & ZOU TIGER come out of the same recent trial clocking in 3rd & 2nd respectively, I wanted to like SHINZO’s more however I didn’t so the TIGER goes in on top of him. AIRMAN fitter, BUTCH CASSIDY a blowout chance, could have still missed the winner! Numbers: 11 – 7 – 4 – 12 Suggested Bet: LIBERTAD EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Really looking forward to this Group 1 where the VRC Oaks winner ZARDOZI will take on the visiting Derby winning star Kiwi filly ORCHESTRAL who really looks special, in fact they both do. I have to tip the invader who has won her last couple with complete authority, she has a real turn of foot & I’d expect we’ll see it here as she storms to victory. ZARDOZI was outstanding in the spring, she showed a mean turn of foot herself winning the Oaks from back in the field, terrific last start she’ll strip even fitter & won’t go under without a fight today. Throw MARE OF MT BULLER in your exotics, lightly raced unbeaten this prep she could easily fill a placing. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: ORCHESTRAL TO WIN/SAVER ZARDOZI RACE 8 POST IMPRESSIONIST created a big impression winning here last Saturday & will no doubt prove the runner to beat in the Group 1 Tancred. Must admit though I was very impressed with MORE FELONS win in the Paramatta Cup mid-February & can only suggest he’s been kept fresh for this for a reason. Close in the Geelong Cup, ok in the Melbourne Cup & he actually beat home POST IMPRESSIONIST (narrowly) in the Ebor. At the better odds I’ll side with him each-way. BUCKAROO must be included in the place chances. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet: MORE FELONS EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Hard to go past the very progressive ANOTHER WIL who should be able to tag a decent enough speed up front. Absolutely dominant all 3 wins this prep (11.25L cumulative) he comes up with an ideal gate for Jamie Kah & although the numbers are large in this race I’m not sure I’d be having my last on any of them bar him. Every chance to keep building that ‘picket fence’. COIN TOSS can place should he run up to or have improved off the Canberra win which was in slick time. Numbers: 17 – 12 – 16 – 22 Suggested Bet: ANOTHER WIL TO WIN. RACE 10 Tough way to wind up a great day’s racing! GRINGOTTS is down to run both here & at Flemington, should he turn up for this I’ve got him on top however the wide gate suggests jumping into a short price wouldn’t be the smartest of moves. J. Mac steers which is a big help though & 1400m first up seems more suitable than 1200, looking for $3.00 or better. WILLAIDOW continues to race very well, another who will need luck from a slightly awkward draw though? RAZORS is consistent & wasn’t far away fresh, sharper this time around! Numbers: 8 – 15 – 13 – 5 Suggested Bet: GRINGOTTS TO WIN ($3.00 or better). Market Market
