Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on June 23, 2023June 23, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Very tough looking Midway to kick off the day where I’ll lean to BROKEN ARROWS however definitely on an each-way basis. He should be primed at his fourth run back & is rarely far away however he just finds it hard to win, this is not a strong race though & from the good draw he won’t get a better chance. The resuming FIELDING the toughest to beat, although yet to win fresh has placed 3 of 4 attempts. The second up ORYX & third up SUPER BRIGHT in the mix. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 2 Just as tough if not tougher than the previous race! Not a great gate for ALLGEMEINE however I’ll have a few dollars each-way as I thought she was a little unlucky last start when out the back & held up before running home strongly over the concluding stages of the race into fourth spot. CHASE MY CROWN has good numbers, my concern with her is the steep weight rise & poor winning strike rate. BARRADAS has some decent enough form however a wide gate, will need luck. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 3 THE MEDITERRANEAN looks well placed stepping up in distance going on his overseas form where he was a winner up to 2414m & a placegetter up to 3219m, the 2600m of this race certainly won’t cause him any issues & third up he should be just about peaking. WAHINE TOA was terrific first up at Flemington & will only be improved both fitness & distance wise. Stablemate STRAWBERRY ROCK can run well also. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics RACE 4 James Cummings trained CONTEMPORARY has only put in the one sub-par run this prep & that was on a heavy surface at Rosehill second up. He’s been strong to the line his last couple & will appreciate both the claim & the additional 100m today. MISS HELLFIRE continues to race consistently, she does rise in the weights however should gain an economical run from the good alley. HOLLYWOOD HERO resumes, went from a maiden win to Group 1 next start last prep & wasn’t disgraced. Market watch on WEST OF AFRICA, can’t say I was taken by the most recent trial. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: CONTEMPORARY TO WIN (small bet) RACE 5 Looks the right race for AFRICAN DAISY who beat all bar Robusto second up at Rosehill when sitting just off the speed. Robusto did have a picnic in front on that occasion & was able to just hold off the Annabel Neasham trained mare. Although up in the weights she’ll strip fitter & prove tough to beat. FULLER doesn’t look far away, stablemate CENTRESTONE was heavily backed last start & did loom up to figure in the finish, unfortunately the lack of tempo worked against her in the end. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet: AFRICAN DAISY EACH-WAY RACE 6 Have to be with QUEENMAKER here even accounting for the wide draw. She was dominant winning at Canterbury two starts back & although beaten into 2nd spot runs either side they were behind smart types. Down in weight with luck early to get across she’ll prove tough to beat. Ex Kiwi now Chris Waller trained DARLINGTON COUNTY ran well at her local debut & will appreciate 200m further. Big weight for ITA however just can’t not be impressed by the last start win. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: QUEENMAKER TO WIN RACE 7 Open looking race. Going to have a throw at the stumps with DEFECIT who doesn’t draw well however he was likely to go back anyway. Both runs this time in have been fast closing efforts with the latest being in a race not at all run to suit. Definitely giving BAZOOKA a chance should he gain a start, hit the line strongly latest & this is easier. BOLD MAC a chance on the latest run, does rise plenty in weight though. Numbers: 13 – 15 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: DEFECIT EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 8 Going with the in-form CISCO BAY who yes, will need luck in the straight as he is a backmarker & comes up with an inside gate. He likes the sting out & with a little rain around on Thursday this track will have some give in it. COTEHELE & WAIHAHA FALLS both draw wide, look for the pair to be steaming home down the outside in the straight, if CISCO BAY doesn’t get through, they will be hard to beat. Numbers: 6 – 13 – 12 – 17 Suggested Bet: CISCO BAY EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 9 LADY BROOK looks overs to me at well into double figures. Disappointing on face value first up however that race wasn’t run to suit with the winner setting a leisurely tempo. Second up she found the line strongly here behind the flying Passegiata & will appreciate the additional 100m. The in-form IOWNA MERC has won 4 of 7 & has plenty of upside, fitter again third up he gets the claim which is a big positive. NARITO an improver whilst the American mare RUTHIN should be kept very safe. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 18 – 3 Suggested Bet: LADY BROOK EACH-WAY RACE 10 GREEN SHADOWS should be hard to beat in this final race off the good draw. Raced very keenly first up however still found the line with plenty of dash & will no doubt strip fitter for it, has trialled since to keep the fitness levels up. STONECOAT can run a race fresh, showed plenty last prep. Dare I say BATTLETON can place. Numbers: 17 – 12 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: GREEN SHADOWS TO WIN Market Market
