Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 19, 2024December 19, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Randwick on Saturday will be on dry ground. We kick off the day with a 2yo affair where only 3 of the 13 acceptors have raced. Of the debutantes all the best stables are represented (bar one) & on their trials I wouldn’t be ruling out anything, market leads will be all important. CHERGUI gets the nod from the Godolphin yard, won both a jump out & trial in good fashion, should be ready to go here. Liked the way QUIETLY ARROGANT hit the line in his trial whilst the Hawkes trained galloper DEVIL KNIGHT is also well trialled. Could have easily missed the winner. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: Monitor market leads closely. RACE 2 Looking for a Zac Lloyd special here with the widely drawn IN SUMMER who has the right form just the wrong gate! Lightly raced with only 5 starts under her belt she won nicely at Scone before venturing to town beating all bar the winner this grade last start. MORITZ GIRL has been luckless of late drawing car park gates & never getting anywhere near the inside rail, better alley this time around can improve sharply. Can never underestimate whatever Matt Dunn brings to these races & here he is with the peaking TEXAS FIREBALL. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 RAPT does appear well placed in a Midway coming out of a last start Listed race at Eagle Farm which contained Danni’s St. Darci & Cigar Flick, both of which would start long odds on here. Second up record is good, unbeaten this trip if there looked a good thing in a Midway it’s her. DIRECT FIRE is racing well without winning, must include once again. CALLISTEMON’s recent efforts better than they appear on face value, place chance. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 13 – 7 Suggested Bet: RAPT TO WIN. RACE 4 Absolutely nothing between this bunch of fillies & mares. I’ve been a fan of PIPPIE BEACH however have come to the conclusion now she’s much better placed on damp ground & that’s not likely to be the case today. I AM FAMOUS resumes with a solid enough fresh record from the leading yard, trial was sound & draws well to either lead or take a sit/trail, market leads? The consistent LULUMON outgunned Drift Net to the line last start, not sure that’s a big recommendation however winning form is. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 DAWN SERVICE is going forward here from the good alley & should find the front. Beaten into 3rd spot only fresh run to date he bolted in second-up when stepped up to today’s longer trip. Two trials suggest he should be ready to give a sight. GETAFIX raced consistently all last preparation & beat all bar the winner in a recent trial, definite market watch. CODETTA & INSIDE MAN both figure to settle off speed however they can certainly find the line. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Can’t tip against GILDED WATER who just kept on coming at his local debut to get over the top of the leaders at Kembla over 2000m which included Alalcance who has suffered a similar fate since again going down only narrowly. 2400m is now ideal for this ex-UK galloper who is owned by His Majesty King Charles. No love in the early markets for stablemate DUKE OF CONDICOTE which is a little surprising considering his recent good form & record out to this longer trip. TAJANIS in the mix. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: GILDED WATER WIN BET/DUKE OF CONDICOTE EACH-WAY. RACE 7 BRIGHT RED was steered very wide here last start with Nash Rawiller searching for better ground which didn’t quite end up working out, can’t knock a guy for trying! Although Nash isn’t on board today I’m confident the horse can make amends & those who supported him shouldn’t be jumping ship. The winner that day which he couldn’t quite get to looks a very promising type. Acid test for the unbeaten CHURCHILL’S CHOICE whose pair of provincial wins have been solid, connections have chosen the right metro race to tackle, it’s not an overly strong one. FIDDLERS GREEN & O’ZIGGY in the mix. Numbers: 7 – 15 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet: BRIGHT RED TO WIN. RACE 8 Happy to forgive the last start failure handed in by UZZIAH as he was found to be 2/5 lame post-race. He’d been in good form prior to that generally leading on most occasions & drilling down through the form in this race there’s question marks over many runners. Should ANG POW go around here & not at Eagle Farm I wouldn’t be leaving him out, he’s never far away & holds a good record at the trip. GERIATRIX a BIG market watch, ex Kiwi now with Waller coming through Group races back home, will he need the hit out? Numbers: 8 – 9 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 I’m a bit of an OUR KOBISON fan & am more than happy to stick with him second-up. He brings clearly stronger form lines into the race & yes, he is rising in the weights however some of that has been offset by Molly Bourke’s claim. He’ll land the right run from a favourable draw & should take plenty of beating. GARZA BLANCA may head north, may not head north? Wherever he ends up he must be respected on recent form. IN FLIGHT strips fitter second up, just needs a touch of luck from the awkward gate. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: OUR KOBISON TO WIN. RACE 10 Very, very tough way to wind up the day. Going to lean to the first up SILENT IMPACT who has only missed a placing once in 4 attempts & that includes 2 wins. His lead up trials have been good enough to suggest he can be right in the finish fresh. No knock on what YORKSHIRE did at his initial campaign, can he bring that form to a dry track though? VALIMI a market watch, ex-French horse who has had plenty of trials. Numbers: 7 – 13 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: SILENT IMPACT TO WIN. Market Market
