Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on June 6, 2024June 6, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Just a lazy 11 races this afternoon as a result of last weeks washout. The forecast isn’t any better in the lead up to today with a heap of rain set to fall, we need to look for ‘swimmers’! Leaning to the debut winner SHAMADAN who parked near to the speed before pulling clear late at Murwillumbah on a heavy (10) surface. Yes, this is a great deal harder however I did like the way she handled the going there. MADRINA has placed twice on soft ground, she’s got the right form lines to figure here. TWINKLING STAR has been going well at the trials. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 On paper DECADENT TALE likely finds this race a little too short perhaps? Perhaps not as with the very wet surface the 1600m will likely feel a lot further than that which will end up in her favour. She handles all types of ground well should find this easier than most recent efforts. DIMAGGIO & GELATIN in the mix also. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Wide open Highway where I’m with the speedy RAMONES who surely leads off the inside draw. He’s been very game at recent outings only being run over late, the drop back in distance this afternoon looks ideal for him & Bailey Wheeler’s claim is a major plus. No luck for TICKLEBELLY last start, note she unbeaten on wet ground. Nothing wrong with the way SOMERTON SNIPER is going, has plenty of upside. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 17 – 22 Suggested Bet: RAMONES EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 4 Interesting race as many return from up north tackling tougher assignments. PIGGYBACK isn’t one of those however she looks very hard to beat with the rise in distance this afternoon. Strong to the line all 3 starts this prep she’ll carry no weight after Bailey Wheeler’s claim & has run well to date on wet ground. Can’t help but think the Waller stable were expecting more from MISTERKIPCHOGE in Queensland, I’m not giving up on him yet though & must have him in the mix here. BESTOWER a chance as is the in-form INVINCIBLE SPY. Numbers: 16 – 6 – 14 – 1 Suggested Bet: PIGGYBACK EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Suitable looking race for the consistent NANA’S WISH who is another runner today well placed aided by the 2kg claim for Bailey Wheeler. Recent runs have been good running into in form horses the latest being a second behind the Queensland Oaks favourite Scarlet Oak. PRINCIPESSA is a ‘swimmer’, all her decent form is on soft/heavy ground, she’ll strip fitter & appreciate the 3kg off for Molly Bourke. DESTINY’S DELIGHT is racing well & is another who gets through the ground. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: NANA’S WISH EACH-WAY. RACE 6 The speedy PASSEGGIATA was run down by THE BLACK CLOUD here last start & they meet again here with a 2.5kg turnaround in the weights favouring the former for the 1.2L defeat, can she turn the tables? I’ll say yes & as we know she’s right at home on heavy ground. THE BLACK CLOUD draws wide, likely gives a start & maybe now looking for further, not saying he can’t win however should he do so it will be a tough effort. OUR BELLAGIO MISS comes out of the same last start race & had little luck. Numbers: 10 – 13 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet: PASSEGGIATA EACH_WAY. RACE 7 Tough race. Maybe something small ASTERO who does look over the odds in early markets. Only sub-par run this prep was when giving away far too much start. He races well on wet ground, likes the trip, the negative is his record here at this track. KING OF THE CASTLE is another not without a chance at a decent price, further would suit however it’s so wet that will work to his advantage. GRAVINA has put in two good runs this prep, include. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: ASTERO EACH-WAY (very small bet). RACE 8 The Lord Mayors Cup which was held over from last Saturday should see the mudlark WILLIAMSBURG hard to beat. Although yet to tick the 2000m box he’s placed at 2 of his 3 attempts at the trip & he generally races well here at Randwick. SIR LUCAN the toughest to beat, sat deep & did a great job at Newcastle beaten by a horse who went north last week & scored again. SIBAAQ & SKY LAB in the mix also. Numbers: 12 – 6 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 SEMILLION is racing in good form of late, his Takeover Tarket win at Gosford was solid from the front on a Heavy (9) surface. He’ll see something similar today & will take plenty of running down once again. QUICK TEMPO chased home Opal Ridge on wet ground at Scone, right in the hunt on similar ground also. SNOWZONE is worth including, first up record is good & he loves the damp going, could be overs? Numbers: 11 – 12 – 15 – 16 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 10 Like the way WATERFORD is going this prep & I don’t see any reason to tip against him here on Heavy ground as he has a win on the surface. Strong running down the leader first up at Rosehill he then just missed at Scone in the Cup when perhaps a shade unlucky. MIRACLE SPIN tends to mix his form however recent efforts have been ok & the wetter the better for him. PALMETTO is capable of running well whilst the Victorian based JUNIPAL has run some decent races in stronger affairs & handles the wet ground well. Numbers: 3 – 13 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: WATERFORD TO WIN. RACE 11 This would be the third straight week I’ve tipped STEP ASIDE to win the final race! Scratched week one, washed out week two I’m passing this time due only to the wet ground. XIDAKI wasn’t far away first up on the Sunshine Coast in a Group 3 feature on Heavy ground when drawing the wrong part of the track. Fitter now & has good upside. STARMAN has to be included however he finds it very hard to win, suggest place only. Numbers: 11 – 14 – 10 – 6 Suggested Bet: XIDAKI EACH-WAY. Market Market
