Chris Nelson’s Saturday Gold Coast Preview Posted on January 15, 2026January 15, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Huge day of racing on the Gold Coast with the 2 & 3yo Magic Millions races our features. Track rated a soft (5) on Thursday which I’d expect to be a (4) by Friday, Saturday could be stormy with 0-7mm predicted, who knows? The day kicks off with a maiden where I’m leaning to (9) MISTY VEIL who was game in defeat behind the very smart Ice Kool last start, whilst she was no match for the winner she beat the rest by a big margin & note the third placed horse has since won comfortably. The locally trained (11) COOL MOON draws the pole & has trialled in great order winning 3 heats all in January, surely set for this. (2) BUCKEYE has also shown up at the trials whilst (13) BOTTLES OF SHELLS a chance off a wide draw. Numbers: 9 – 11 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet: MISTY VEIL TO WIN (small bet). RACE 2 The Country Cup is a very open affair where many different form lines will clash. (10) OBEROI PRINCESS caught the eye running home well here last start; she’ll appreciate the step up in distance however will need luck from the wide gate. (4) MEAN APPROACH’s metro form is certainly good enough to figure in the finish, 5 of his 6 wins have come around this distance range. (9) PARTY SPIRIT draws well & is generally around the mark. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: Very wide exotics! RACE 3 The Magic Millions Debut is strangely enough for horses who have yet to race, no kidding! We look to the trials & there have been many impressive performances both locally & interstate. The two Paul Shailer trained runners (2) PROFIT IN PARADISE & (7) TOORAK JEWEL bolted in by similar big margins at the same session here recently, both coasted late & the times were also very similar. The Waterhouse/Bott stable produce trial winners (4) WENDELL & (6) LADY MOSCATO with the latter drawing wide. I wouldn’t rule out any runner however suggest the winner may come from that quartet. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: Monitor market moves closely. RACE 4 Trainer Kelly Schweida had a big day out here last week winning the two features. One of those winners was the ultra-consistent mare (1) MISS JOELENE who goes around once again stepping up 400m in distance. She’s yet to win out to the longer trip however has placed 2 of 3 & whilst I’m not nearly as keen as I was last week I’ll stick with her on an each-way basis today. (6) SNITZANOVA has been out of luck her last couple, wide & working too hard two back she couldn’t get much of a go at them last week, trip is the unknown, a win wouldn’t surprise. (2) MAJOR BEEL should appreciate the drop in grade. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet: MISS JOELENE EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Big numbers to go around in this fillies & mares feature, should be around $4 – $5 the field when they jump. I’ve been with (16) SCRIPTED her past two starts & there’s no doubt she could & arguably should have won both. Wide in the run on both occasions she’s still been strong to the line, drawn out today a wide run is again likely however in the big field she should find cover. (7) SUNSET DREAMING really found the line late at Eagle Farm last start, she will enjoy the additional 100m this afternoon, another with a wide draw though. (1) DANCE TO THE BOOM was sound first up & will derive good benefit from the run whilst the super consistent (3) LONHRO’S QUEEN got the well-deserved win last start, cannot be overlooked. Numbers: 16 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: SCRIPTED EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of the Waterhouse/Bott trained Sydney visitor (2) THE INSTRUCTOR who was as tough as old boots when going down narrowly first up at a recent Canterbury night meeting. He gave the winner 7kg yet made him earn every inch of it, his second up record is a good one & he maps ideally likely right behind the speed. (1) HIDDEN WEALTH lumped the big weight to victory last start in a very game performance, wide gate is a concern, hopefully a little luck is on his side early. (4) PAYLINE is always a chance, too far back last week did make ground however peaked late again for mine, did the same two back, I’ve jumped ship! Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: THE INSTRUCTOR to win. RACE 7 $3 million dollars up for grabs in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic. I highly doubt we’ll get black figures about (4) WARWOVEN however anything is possible on the day. I can’t tip against him as both wins have been impressive really finding the line strongly & impressively. To the eye he’s looked good & that’s been backed up by his numbers, from the ideal gate he should be winning. (1) ZIP LOCK is also unbeaten & connections have very big wraps on him; he too draws perfectly & will land the right run also. I’m very wary of (2) TORNADO VALLEY, slow to jump his past couple the blinkers go on here & we’ve seen Ciaron Maher successfully do that in the past, excuses last start he didn’t give up one bit, I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t a major player in the finish. (5) UNIT FIVE rounds out the top four. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: WARWOVEN TO WIN. RACE 8 It’s the 3yo’s turn as they go around for 3 million in the Guineas & (1) NINJA is going to start a very short priced favourite based on his dominant Vo Rogue win a fortnight back. Although not the best to jump sitting out the back wasn’t a bad thing as the pace up front was hectic. He won’t get that same tempo here (on paper) & unless Tommy Berry pulls a rabbit out of his hat will again give away a big start. He’s odds on & when they’re in red figures I want everything in my favour & it’s not. I’m going with (11) ICARIAN DREAM each-way, her form lines are solid & she’s likely to be a lot closer in the run from the good gate. Many other chances if you’re keen to take on the favourite predominantly nos.2 & 4 from me. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: ICARIAN DREAM EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Big numbers to go around in the 2-million-dollar Magic Millions Cup where I’m going for one at big odds in (15) THE THREE HUNDRED. Solid winner first up at Wyong in a Magic Millions race he was then out of the money at Eagle Farm in The Buffering however had a torrid run which should be completely wiped. To finish 4 lengths from the winner (4) NEED SOME LUCK was an excellent performance & they meet again today with a 6kg turnaround at the weights in the top tips favour. (2) BOSUSTOW is always capable of running a race fresh & any give in the surface won’t worry him. Numbers: 15 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: THE THREE HUNDRED EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Bookies favourite (5) JOHN RAMBO goes around once again in this final race & no doubt the punters will be keen to give him another chance. In all fairness he was luckless here last week when strung up for clear running in the straight. That’s him though, if there’s a backside to run into he’ll find it however maybe, just maybe from the wide draw he’ll get an unimpeded run at them. I’m jumping on today so here’s hoping! Liked the will to win shown by the lightly raced (13) MISS PERSONALITY last start taking a narrow gap in the straight, she’s right in this whilst the resuming (14) ROSELYN’S STAR is a market watch, good enough to win this fresh if the money arrives. Numbers: 5 – 13 – 14 – 7 Suggested Bet: JOHN RAMBO EACH-WAY. Market Market
