Chris Nelson’s Saturday Gold Coast Preview Posted on September 19, 2024September 19, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Saturday racing on the turf at the Gold Coast, track played well 2 weeks ago, all systems go! Keen on this opening race where the stablemates FLEUR DU MONDE & YET HE MOVES will clash once again. The latter got the prize at Doomben a fortnight back however shouldn’t have as YET HE MOVES had the far tougher run & ended up a sitting shot in the straight. With a favourable weight swing & better luck this time around I’m confident YET HE MOVES can turn the tables. TWIGMAN who will appreciate the step up in distance next best. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: YET HE MOVES TO WIN. RACE 2 HYDE shouldn’t be too far from his peak third run back from a break & based on his latest placing looks a good chance to go a couple better here against very limited looking opposition. Claim & inside gate are both plusses, he’ll get his chance. TWIGMAN can improve second up, he’ll appreciate the slightly longer trip as well. Take your pick the rest! Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: HYDE TO WIN (small bet). RACE 3 Connections removed I AM THE EMPIRE from a suitable race at Canterbury during the week to head north & take this on instead. He was goo over this trip two starts back before down to 2000m the latest running well in Saturday company at Rosehill, back to 2200m again looks ideal. BAK DA MAN would run 10 miles; he’ll be there when the chips are down & the others are feeling the pinch late. Include nos.3, 8 & 10 in all exotics. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 With PERSPIRATION now a scratching the coast is all clear for MISHANI LILY to make it 2 from 2 this prep. She’s a very speedy filly who will lead from her inside draw & with Emily Lang’s claim carry only a kilo more than the first up win when running her rivals off their legs. This track will dry out during the day which will suit her speeding along on top of the ground. Going to put APAUNTAR in as the second selection, he’s got a real problem at the start of his races, he just doesn’t jump, should he get that under control he’ll win races as I’m sure the ability is there. GIN A TONIC & DEFIANT BOOM the other hopes in the race. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: MISHANI LILY TO WIN. RACE 5 Drawn the inside gate CATWALK CRIMINAL could prove very hard to catch on top of the ground. She’s yet to tick the 1200m box however has won twice at the 1100m range & was second at that trip her latest run. With a 6kg weight drop she’s going to take plenty of running down. JAYANTHI wasn’t suited last start in a strong sprint home, could well be the case again today however if not she’ll be thereabouts. Thought EN POINTE could improve, excuses both runs this prep likely parks outside CATWALK CRIMINAL. BURNING BELL has been trialling well. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: CATWALK CRIMINAL TO WIN. RACE 6 I was keen on the chances of SECRET PLAN at Doomben 2 weeks back however when he missed the start my ticket was confetti as he’s a horse whose pattern is to race on pace. In the end he did a good job making ground in the straight however he needed to be closer. PLUNDERING beat him that day & they meet again with a 3.5kg weight swing in SECRET PLAN’s favour for the 2.1L defeat. Should he jump I’d suggest he can turn the tables. CORFE CASTLE may have needed the run last start off a good fresh effort, is again 4 weeks between however not rising as far in distance. Numbers: 8 – 12 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet: SECRET PLAN EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Expect a stack of scratchings in this race. As it stands, I’ll side with REDFORD who is unbeaten having impressively won his first 2 starts in provincial NSW before a stable change to Stuart Kendrick on the Sunshine Coast, at his first local outing he scored comfortably & can measure up to this stronger company. MIDORI BEAUTY appreciated the strong tempo to run right over his rivals first outing back from Hong Kong, additional 150m ideal based on that win. Should CARDONE gain a start he’s a chance at odds whilst CATWALK CRIMINAL & the speedy BARASSI who are both dual acceptors must be included. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 18 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up as many as possible in exotics! RACE 8 Tough looking race this one! The speedy BARASSI draws widest of all runners, he’ll have a task should he run. RALPHIE isn’t the easiest horse to catch however his form of late has been consistent without winning. Placed in Saturday company at Doomben his last couple the effort two back was particularly good running on strongly in a race run very slowly from the front. SIMBU got the money last start running down Catwalk Criminal who runs earlier in the day which will be a good guide, Simbu does draw well here. Definitely respecting GIVE GIGGLES who may end up going around at Eagle Farm on Friday instead? Numbers: 2 – 6 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet: RALPHIE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 9 I’ll lean to IVERSON who was always up against it first up at Doomben having drawn wide with little option than to go back. He may well face a similar task today however I did like the way he found the line & the slightly longer trip won’t harm his chances. If they’re running on, he’ll be in the thick of it late. CRANKY HARRY is racing very consistently, the big weight does concern me however he’s drawn to gain an economical run. BLAKMAX loves the dry ground, showed his versatility ridden from the front last start when wasn’t for catching. Numbers: 15 – 3 – 2 – 23 Suggested Bet: IVERSON EACH-WAY. Market Market
