Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on June 1, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Difficult way to open up the big day where I’ll lean to the Chris Waller trained MOJAVE DESERT who has the blinkers applied & comes up with a good draw. Both runs this time in work have been solid placings with the latest of those at Flemington parked outside the leader in what was a sprint down that famous straight. Whilst he couldn’t close the margin, he should be at peak fitness now & gets his chance. Wide gate for AZULA who was a good winner last time when led, from this stable you’d have to think goes forward once again. FLYING TRAPEZE next best. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 2 No leader on the map which is always concerning, no idea how this race will be run. Should it be truly then ROUSSEAU gets his chance, clearly in need of the outing last start when 4 weeks between runs he still closed off soundly, this looks a nice race for him on paper. AUSSIE NUGGET messed up the start big time latest run, always in the mix around this grade can improve sharply with a better getaway. BELLATRIX BLACK isn’t without a chance however won’t want a dawdling speed. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 13 – 12 Suggested Bet: ROUSSEAU EACH-WAY RACE 3 Freshened up LEGAL ESPRIT can run a race here. Personally, I feel he’s much better placed when racing around this trip, the good gate & claim are both definite positives as is the freshen up. I’ve been with HELLFEST both runs this time in which have been honest without figuring, she should find this an easier task class wise however will need luck from that wide gate. Expecting LADY OF LUXURY to improve second up, nicely down in the weights. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: LEGAL ESPRIT EACH-WAY RACE 4 RUBIQUITOUS has come in for good support since the markets first opened which isn’t a real surprise. Very effective fresh he looked good in a recent trial, draws a favourable gate & has a positive Eagle Farm record. ATHELRIC won in Listed company at Scone however had Quantico been able to get off the fence earlier he wouldn’t have, he gives RUBIQUITOUS 6kg however still have to include. MISHANI SNIPER is flying, he’ll be strong late. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: RUBIQUITOUS TO WIN RACE 5 Tricky race as there’s no leader on the map, suggesting maybe OSMOSE who did race forward in her French days & comes up with alley one. I’m with her as even should she not she won’t be far away & should be peaking third run back from a break. FRUMOS had plenty of favours last start & may do so again here, concern for mine is the firm surface? FOXY FRIDA has been flying in Adelaide, no reason she can’t bring that form here. Chances certainly do not end there though. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: OSMOSE EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 6 BRIGANTINE was entitled to win at Doomben in Class 3 company last start & that he did with 59kg which was still a good weight for him tackling far inferior opposition. Yes’ this is harder however he’s raced well against stronger company in the past & down on 54kg with the rise in distance appears well suited. SKYMAN rarely runs a bad race; the weight & gate won’t worry him. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: BRIGANTINE TO WIN RACE 7 QUANTICO was the best of good things beaten in The Ortensia at Scone, held up behind the leader/winner he escaped the pocket too late & ran out of ground to go down by a very small margin. J. Mac jumps on from the favourable alley which should see him around midfield with a decent speed up front, he’ll be launching late. PRINCE OF BOOM will give a big sight from the front, if not attacked will prove tough to get past. Can definitely find a spot for CLEMENCEAU who is another to have no luck last start, right in this. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 11 – 10 Suggested Bet: QUANTICO TO WIN RACE 8 The Oaks loses FIREBURN which is hugely disappointing. AFFAIRE A SUIVRE was as tough as nails winning the Oaks at Morphettville sitting 3 deep & looking a sitting shot in the straight. She just refused to give in & is on a definite upward spiral. PROSCENIUM ARCH kept finding the line in the Roses behind FIREBURN, can only suggest the additional trip is suitable based on that. RENAISSANCE WOMAN had no answer to FIREBURN in the Roses, that doesn’t matter now, she’s not here! Numbers: 2 – 12 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 9 Terrific race to wind up the day. I’m with the lightly raced WRITTEN IN CODE who was dominant on debut heavily against the tempo before charging home to beat all bar RED CARD (also engaged here) at Scone. Freshened up, additional 100m, every chance to turn the tables. EKATERINA is back in trip however she turned in one hec of a sectional effort to win at Doomben, cannot be overlooked. Numbers: 18 – 12 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet: WRITTEN IN CODE Market Market
