Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on March 2, 2023March 2, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 HOKAHEY and THE RED KITE look the two on form and the market agrees with a gap out to the next runner who is closer to double-figures. Don’t feel there’s a great deal between the pair with luck in running perhaps being the deciding factor? HOKAHEY is going for the hat trick and he’s been very strong to the line both wins, this track should suit him down to the ground. THE RED KITE has only had the one local start and will take good improvement. Numbers: 4 – 11 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: BOX EXACTA nos.4 & 11 RACE 2 Good race. BEAST MODE goes for 4 straight having not raced since early January, his recent trial win at Deagon will have him ready to go. I’m just going to lean to the Gollan trained DEER TRAIL who impressed me at his initial campaign winning 2 of his 3 starts. I have no doubt he’ll be better placed in the Jewel race run in a fortnights time over 1200m however with the small field and long run home don’t be surprised if he’s coming with a rush late. Stablemate ALL THAT PIZZAZZ shouldn’t be overlooked either, trialled well enough just needs to discover his initial preparation form. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: DEER TRAIL EACH-WAY RACE 3 Thought TAPILDOODLEDO might end up with the right run just off the speed and there’s no doubt he’ll see out the longer trip having run 4th in the Grand Prix here during the Summer Carnival over 2100m. His best efforts have been here at Eagle Farm and he rarely puts in a bad run. The two NSW visitors FAIRWAY STAR and TAVI TIME must be respected, the former was a Canterbury winner last start and has plenty of upside. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet: TAPILDOODLEDO EACH-WAY RACE 4 Keen on two runners in the fillies Jewel Prelude being FIVE STAR VIXEN and RUBAAHY who I found hard to split, the latter is an emergency which come Saturday morning could make my decision a lot easier! FIVE STAR VIXEN ran home very well on debut back in January, chased home Blue Diamond Prelude runner up Party For Two which is a terrific formline. Trials either side were placings behind Skirt the Law & Shot Of Whiskey who won on debut last weekend! RUBAAHY bolted in on debut before out of luck here second start when held up. The unbeaten MISHANI ROYALE in the mix, just a bit short in my opinion jumping from the wide gate. Numbers: 13 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: RUBAAHY/FIVE STAR VIXEN WIN RACE 5 The Prelude for the males is wide open. Plenty of debutantes suggest we need to keep a close eye on the market movers. I’m interested to see what the betting does with SPIN DOCTOR and MISTER MODERATION who have both shown ability in their barrier trials, they’re the main two for me. It’s a race we’ll learn plenty from looking towards the 1200m race in a fortnight. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 10 – 13 Suggested Bet: Watching on here. RACE 6 Last start winner NAMAZU should be able to go on and make it two straight here. Good first up, got the job done second up and now should be fully fit and ready to step up to 1820m which being a 2100m winner won’t pose any issues, just looked a bit dour late last start suggesting he’s likely looking for the longer trip. No knock POINT COUNTERPOINT who followed the winner MOHICAN HEIGHTS through last start and they meet again here, the latter has been back to Sydney and ran well in Listed grade behind the smart King Frankel. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: NAMAZU TO WIN RACE 7 Interesting race where the highly rated BIRRIECART returns from a break jumping from an awkward gate in a race which at this stage does look like being run at a decent tempo, could be a concern. I’m going with the race fit and in-form DEEPOUR who has produced big finishing bursts winning his last couple, he jumps from an inside draw, gets the right run and with a clear crack at them late will be steaming home once again. BITCOIN BABY in the mix also, depth drops away after that. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet: DEEPOUR TO WIN RACE 8 Yes, he’s got a reputation as an enigma HILAL however he wouldn’t have to be anywhere near his best to get away with this. Formerly Team Hawkes now with Tony Gollan we’ve seen this stable turn around many of these southern states gallopers who are struggling for form. Liked his recent trial running second to stablemate Baller put under no pressure in slick time. STAMPE and THE BIG GOODBYE will race on speed and give a good kick, BAANONE the blowout if there is one. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet: HILAL TO WIN RACE 9 Barrier on paper doesn’t look good for the last start winner TILIANAM however on the map she can get across with a positive ride early from Angela Jones. She found the right race last start and this likes quite suitable also, wouldn’t exactly say she attacks the line however she’s above average and will give a good kick for home. STUTTERING and ROCK AMORE ran the Quinella last week, they should figure in the finish once again. Numbers: 15 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: TILIANAM TO WIN if $4 or better. Market Market
