Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on August 10, 2023August 10, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Sticking with the in-form VODKA MARTINI in this opening race. He put in two very good efforts before winning at Doomben third up sitting up on the speed in good time. Well drawn here for Cejay Graham he doesn’t have to lead to win which is a good thing with plenty of speed engaged in the race. RELIABLE RUBY gets back in her races & with that comes the need for luck, should she get it here she’ll be strong late. LE MELODY definitely in the mix also, lightly raced with a very good record. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up first 4 selections in exotics RACE 2 KANAZAWA will start short here & on face value he has the form to win the race however I was very disappointed in his last start effort when thrown in weight wise & enjoying a perfect run. He couldn’t peg back the winner & his closing sectionals were quite average. Not willing to take the short quote I’ll go with BETTCHA THE CROWN who will come in a few slots after scratchings, good strike rate & has upside, much rather be in his corner on an each-way basis. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet: BETTCHA THE CROWN EACH-WAY RACE 3 GAIUS continues to race very consistently & will appreciate the step up in distance today. This ‘may’ be a little harder than more recent efforts however not by much & he gets down to a very light weight & draws the inside gate. More than happy to stick with him on an each-way basis. ENTERPRISE MIA has no weight & on the map should control the race, she has won over a mile suggesting she’ll give them plenty to run down. ASHGROVE will have his supporters, no knock on his form however would have preferred him over further third up not coming back 100m. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: GAIUS EACH-WAY RACE 4 No great confidence in this race where I’ll lean to the Maher/Eustace galloper SKY OUT over the Waller trained CARBONETTI simply due to the fact the latter is a month between runs & the former 2 weeks, had the breaks been reversed so would my selections. In all honesty I prefer CARBONETTI’s form however his last start win was off a 7-day back up. GRINZINGER KNIGHT likes to lead & should do just that. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: Backing top 2 selections (small bets) RACE 5 Thought FAST TALKING may have needed the run here second up last start however I got that wrong & watched him sail past the leaders late. He should be right at his peak now & after Bailey Wheeler’s claim will carry no additional weight still getting in with 59kg, no reason he can’t win again. SHOPPING ESPRIT is loving life at Chris Waller’s, up in grade however drops nicely at the weights & the additional trip won’t pose any problems. Can’t see anything else winning the race. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: FAST TALKING TO WIN RACE 6 Hoping all the leaders go around in this 1000m dash & set it up for CRAZY TRAIN who will park off speed. She loomed up to win at Doomben last start however just peaked on her finish late, she drops 3kg in weight for this & is rarely far away, each-way looks suitable. SPACEBOY is speedy, doesn’t win out of turn however drops down from an open company second at Doomben last start. NED’S GULLY draws well & was a first up winner, second up record hasn’t been as good in the past however he can’t be ruled out. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: CRAZY TRAIN EACH-WAY RACE 7 Small field still a good race & although over the short 1000m dash there doesn’t look to be a great deal of speed with King Klaus & Rubiquitous the on pacers. I’m with the very consistent RUBIQUITOUS who has been kept fresh off a Sunshine Coast win early in July, he loves this track & has trialled very well since winning comfortably at Doomben recently. THE BOPPER has the right form however his gate & pattern suggest he’ll give away a decent start, he does have a big finish on him though. QUICK TEMPO has won fresh & holds a good strike rate. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: RUBIQUITOUS TO WIN RACE 8 Liked the recent trial from MISS COOTA who resumes here after a couple of reasonable efforts in the summer without placing. Her go is the short trips which she gets today, keep in mind she’s unbeaten under 1200m with both wins being dominant. HIGHBAR looked terrific winning on debut at the Sunshine Coast, plenty of upside however this is definitely a step up in grade. TOP FUN also rises in grade off the last start win, did run some nice races in town last prep though. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: MISS COOTA TO WIN (if not a big market drifter) RACE 9 Convinced ESKY has found the right race here. He hasn’t started for a month coming off a couple of strong closing Doomben 1350m runs however I don’t see that being an issue & the step up to a mile is very suitable considering his only win came at 2000m. ROSOVO disappointed last start, maybe he just got too far back in the run, expecting better here. Very open from then on. Numbers: 18 – 10 – 14 – 3 Suggested Bet: ESKY TO WIN Market Market
