Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on September 7, 2023September 7, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Keen on the chances of the in-form mare OUTLAWED who can kick the day off on a winning note. She’s had the three starts for Rob Heathcote running a strong second first up before winning her past couple in impressive fashion. From the good gate today she’ll park a lot closer than last start & from there will prove very hard to hold out. TIGER SHARK the danger, gave plenty to score in a good quality race out to this trip last time leading throughout. IRON GRACE has been freshened up, consistent without luck. Numbers: 8 – 16 – 12 – 7 Suggested Bet: OUTLAWED TO WIN RACE 2 Very average race this one. NIKAU SPUR & GALIFIANAKIS are the two on form. I’ll lean to the latter who drops plenty in weight in what is officially a step up in grade however that’s questionable. NIKAU SPUR takes on the longer trip for the first time, can’t knock him though as he just keeps stepping up. Take your pick the rest. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box exacta nos.4 & 6 RACE 3 Wouldn’t be jumping into a short price about DARK HARMONY however he does appear well placed in this race. He led & went too hard here last start however fought on very well to the line only being beaten by the eventual winner. SMYTZER is another who will settle on speed & looks close to a win. SHEZA FIRECRACKER can improve, gets the claim once again whilst ANCIENT EGYPT who is in good form can figure with luck from a wide alley. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: DARK HARMONY EACH-WAY RACE 4 BETTCHA THE CROWN hasn’t had anything go his way his past couple yet the runs have been a lot better than they appear on paper. Two back he gave too big a start in a dash home yet still made ground, the latest he again got too far back before running into late traffic. Like to see him make use of the good draw today with a positive early ride & from there he’ll get his chance. BULLFINCH is close however he has been many times before, that’s the concern with him. BE WATER MY FRIEND maps well, SHIBLI was sound first up when not seeing a lot of daylight until late. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: BETTCHA THE CROWN EACH-WAY RACE 5 Wouldn’t be taking anything below $5 KRONENBOURG unless there’s plenty of scratchings as he draws wide, hasn’t raced for 6 weeks & drops back in distance. However, there’s a big positive, not only is he in career best form going for 4 straight wins, his trial last Tuesday week when matching the very smart Yellow Brick suggests he’s probably going even better than we think. PRIME ASSET toughed it out very well last start, must be included. ISIS CARMELLA in the mix off the inside draw which is a big help. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet: KRONENBOURG IF THE RIGHT PRICE RACE 6 Don’t see many winning chances here where I’m keen on DEEP RESPECT who was heavily backed to score on debut overcoming a slow start, he then stepped it up to Saturday grade staying at 1200m running second clearly doing his best work late. Now he gets to 1350 which is perfect. SPIN DOCTOR the hardest to beat, comes out of the same last start race when running on first up, another who will lap up the extra distance. Confident one of the two will win. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: DEEP RESPECT TO WIN RACE 7 Very open race, wouldn’t rule out any runner. FAST TALKING is generally a very consistent galloper who put in a subpar performance last start when out to 1835m at Eagle Farm. He won at the same track over a mile the start prior & has won up to 2200m, the only explanation I can suggest is an off day, giving him another chance. WAPITI flashed home late last start, doesn’t win to often these days though. HAIL MANHATTAN can be very competitive here on his best form. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 14 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 8 LE MELODY gets the nod here. Dominant win first up at Tamworth when sitting on speed which is his normal racing pattern. Last start at Eagle Farm he didn’t jump well, settled back yet ran home well behind the very smart Vodka Martini in a race which didn’t really suit tempo wise. MUSHCIALLI gets back & runs on, should the final field contain enough early pace he’ll be hitting the line hard. THELWELL doesn’t win too often however doesn’t look badly placed here from the good draw. Numbers: 9 – 12 – 14 – 5 Suggested Bet: LE MELODY TO WIN (small bet) RACE 9 SITUATION ROOM clocked in third when resuming here a fortnight back behind the in-form ORBISYN. They meet again today with a 2kg weight advantage in SITUATION ROOMS favour for the 1.76 length defeat. I’m with him to turn the tables. STARVIRGO is a definite knock out chance first up, he won fresh last prep charging home over the top of the leaders & I wouldn’t put it past him to do the same again here. STUTTERING DRAWS well & should map well, just might want further now. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: SITUATION ROOM TO WIN (small bet) Market Market
