Chris Nelson’s Gosford Best Bets

RACE 1 No.7 London

Not sure where this Chris Waller trained colt will eventually turn up as he’s accepted for both here and the Gold Coast. If not yet he will eventually head north and could turn out to be one of the carnival stars. His debut effort behind the Golden Slipper/Sires Produce winner Fireburn was terrific covering plenty of ground still giving on the line. Liked his recent trial and am confident he’s a horse we should be following.

RACE 9 No.1 Our Playboy

Although fine weather is forecast for Friday and Saturday we will still be racing on a damp surface come Saturday which is going to suit this Victorian visitor down to the ground. Dominant at Randwick last start he takes the step up to a mile which is his pet trip having won twice and placed once from his 3 attempts to date. Handy to the speed he’s going to prove the one to beat when the chips are down in the straight.

RACE 10 No.8 Battleton

Scratched from the Gold Coast meeting to stay here and focus on on this race first up. Lightly raced with a terrific record with 2 wins and a placing from 4 attempts, the only unplaced effort came behind Home Affairs and co. in the Group 1 Coolmore down the Flemington straight when beaten just over 5 lengths. He returns a gelding tomorrow and had trialled well winning at Warwick Farm.
