Greg Hooper’s Belmont Best Bets Posted on May 13, 2016May 17, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – #LIFEINTHEPARK PLATE 1300m This looks a clear race in three as the market suggests. VARIATION was a moral beaten on debut at Bunbury. It wasn’t a strong race however he should have won by a space. Harvey on and he has drawn to get the run of the race. STORED ENERGY mowed her rivals down last start and she can win again. DAINTY TESS is very professional and deserves her footing as favourite. TRAP FOR FOOLS wasn’t asked for much in her last trial. Suggested Bet – Variation win RACE 2 – FIVE STAR WHOLESALE MEATS HANDICAP 1200m COOL PASSION should burn over from her wide draw to lead and from there will be too sharp for these. She is blessed with a high cruising speed, she’s tough and has gears. KING RIVER resumes a year away from the track. He disappointed last preparation however he has trialled in magnificent order for his return. JOYFUL HOPE races well fresh and can work home into the placings. RED PUBLISHER should box seat. Suggested Bet – Cool Passion win RACE 3 – EVOLVE SPRINT 1000m Tough race with plenty having genuine wining claims. TRAVELLIN’ drops 2.5kg on his last start nose defeat and the senior rider goes on. He should camp right on the speed and has each-way claims. WINDSWEPT has a touch of class. He should get a lovely run from gate 1. MILITARY REIGN has been a little disappointing since her first-up win at group level. She can lead and improve. CLASSICAL PRINCE was flying last preparation. Suggested Bet – Travellin’ each-way RACE 4 – TOWN OF VICTORIA PARK COMMUNITY HANDICAP 1300m Good race which should be a strong form reference going forward. SCALE OF JUSTICE is very smart. He’s won two of five and finished runner-up at his other three starts behind quality gallopers Chantski, Perfect Reflection and Vega Magic. If he be within striking distance on straightening he’ll take a stack of holding out. GREAT SHOT showed plenty of ability in his first campaign winning his two starts and then being runner-up behind a talented filly. He has trialled very well for his return and looks the leader. KLONDIKE KENNY is racing well. THE COBBLA has a touch of class and should sprint well fresh. Suggested Bet – Scales Of Justice win RACE 5 – PINK LADIES DAY LUNCHEON – JULY 9 HANDICAP 1600m Wide open opening leg of the quaddie. Going for RESPONDENT who was huge in defeat at his most recent start when he was caught wide throughout. He should get a nice run from his good draw and gets his chance to break a long winning drought. MILITARY RULER should be able to lead and control and he races well second-up. NORTH RIDGE and TONTO look the other two winning chances. Suggested Bet – Respondent each-way RACE 6 – ITALO-AUSTRALIAN CENTRE – CELEBRATING 60 YEARS 1400m SO WHO’S HARRY has been in blistering form and he should be able to make six straight wins. He’ll lead, control and take a heap of catching again. MAN BOOKER has been very flat in two runs however the rise to 1400m should suit and Pike takes the ride. RUN LIAM RUN will settle off the speed and finish well. THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN is a very capable type and was asked for little in a recent trial. Suggested Bet – So Who’s Harry win RACE 7 – $150,000 GROUP III DEL BASSO SMALLGOODS – ROMA CUP 1200m This looks a terrific running of this time honoured winter feature sprint. Speed should be genuine with a few noted on speeders engaged. Going for a mini boilover and selecting PROCEEDWITHCAUTION. This is a massive ask for a galloper who has not been seen for 58 weeks and is not suited at the weights however he is a galloper blessed with plenty of ability. If Ben Kennedy can find some cover I expect he’ll run a bold race at big odds. MAGNIFISIO is racing in a terrific fashion. This weight scale ideal. As it is for the $2.67m stakes earner LUCKYGRAY. He won this race last year fresh. BATTLE HERO next best. Suggested Bet – Proceedwithcaution and Magnifisio RACE 8 – DEL BASSO BUTCHERS HANDICAP 1600m Really tricky finish to the program. THE FLIRT looks close to another win. The stable is flying and he does excel at this trip. TANJIER threw any chance for a win last start when wanting to lay in mid straight. If he can race more tractably he can win. GLORYLAND has been smoking up at Pinjarra. This is harder but he can give a big sight. The former kiwi ROMELO will likely need further but if they iver cook it up front he should be making good late ground. Suggested Bet – The Flirt and Tanjier QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 3, 4, 8 RACE 6 – 4, 5, 7, 8 RACE 7 – 1, 6, 11 RACE 8 – 1, 3, 4, 7 Bet Now
