Ascot Thoroughbreds Preview – 27 February Posted on February 26, 2016February 26, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Tips RACE 1 – MORLEY GROWERS MARKET PLATE 1200m No. 1 WRINKLY – Race experienced gelding WRINKLY looks well placed to make it consecutive wins. He should either lead or breeze and from there will take some running down. (9) ELLENS CHOICE hit the line well on debut at Bunbury. She should improve off that run and the increase in distance will suit. (7) MY JOURNEY has shown ability in his trials. (5) DYNAMISM makes his debut for the inform Simon Miller yard on the back of a solid trial. Suggested Bet – Wrinkly and Ellens Choice RACE 2 – MEMBERSHIP PRO RATA RATES HANDICAP 2400m No. 9 UNCLE GEORGE – There isn’t much between the top few in this staying race. I’ve settled on UNCLE GEORGE to hopefully break a long winning drought. He has finished off solidly at his last two starts and Pike retains the mount. (1) COUGAR EXPRESS will lead and is the one to run down. (4) KEYSBROOK has claims again. (3) SAXY GRACE looks the other winning chance. Suggested Bet – Uncle George 1 win / 2 places RACE 3 – CITY OF BELMONT COMMUNITY HANDICAP 1600m No. 1 NORTH RIDGE – Powerful four-year-old NORTH RIDGE looks hard to beat despite having to lump 59kg. He scored a big win in similar grade a fortnight back. From his middle draw he should stay out of trouble and go very close. (2) MUSKETS AT DAWN should lead and give a big sight. (8) SOCIALLY UNIQUE was a big winner last week and Pike goes on. (5) OUTLAW PETE should be just about nearing his peak at his third run back from a spell. Suggested Bet – North Ridge and Muskets At Dawn RACE 4 – ST PATRICKS RACEDAY MARCH 12 HANDICAP 1000m No. 8 BRISANTO – This appears the most open race of the day. BRISANTO just missed two starts back and then last start battled on solidly after enduring a torrid run in transit. The senior rider goes on and he has drawn to sit very handy to the speed. (7) PEGGIE’S MAREE showed ability in her first campaign and has trialled well for her return. (2) CASTLE QUEEN is suited with the drop back to 1000m. (5) EXPRESS BOY impressed winning first-up at Bunbury. Suggested Bet – Brisanto each-way RACE 5 – MINEARC SYSTEMS HANDICAP 1000m No. 8 MARCHAND – This appears another very open sprint. MARCHAND is drawn to lead and can give plenty of cheek. He drops in weight and the senior rider goes on. (5) SECRET NOVA should box seat and this looks a very similar assignment to her last win. (9) VOLKOFF is flying and will be closing hard late. (7) KENNOCHA just needs some luck from an awkward alley to be a big chance at posting a winning hat-trick. Suggested Bet – Marchand each-way RACE 6 – WATC DERBY DAY APRIL 16 HANDICAP 1200m No. 1 JUST ACT NATURAL – Explosive three-year-old JUST ACT NATURAL looks set to add to his impressive record in this 1200m sprint. He has put on a clinic at his last two starts in town leading from go to whoa and giving nothing a sight. He burns over from his wide gate and takes plenty of catching again. (5) PATRIMONIO has run second to him in both those wins. He probably does the same again. (6) LE PATRON can settle handier with the blinkers going on. (8) HIGH TEA was doing her best work late first-up and has claims. Suggested Bet – Just Act Natural win RACE 7 – KARRAKATTA PLATE DAYS APRIL 2 HANDICAP 2150m No.11 READY TO FIRE – This is another very open race. Going for some value and selecting READY TO FIRE. She had little luck at her last start and her two prior efforts were solid. From gate 2 she gets the run of the race she drops 4kg on her last start. (3) SO AMBITIOUS ran his rivals ragged at Pinjarra. He’ll endeavour to do the same again. (5) MAGIC ROCKET should come on strongly from his last start effort. (1) MR MANKINI is untried at the trip but has a touch of class. Suggested Bet – Ready To Fire each-way RACE 8 – STONE MOTHERLESS AFTER THE RACES HANDICAP 1400m No. 6 POUNAMU – Hopefully saving the best to last with the highly promising four-year-old POUNAMU. He has been super impressive in his two local starts where he has displayed a powerful late finishing burst. If he holds form he wins again. (10) SLICK TALKER looks the danger. He was very impressive putting away a moderate bunch a fortnight back. (5) DANISH DELIGHT broke a long drought last start and has claims again. (12) RED PADDY is consistent will be thereabouts again. Suggested Bet – Pounamu win QUADDIE RACE 5 – 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 RACE 6 – 1, 5, 6, 8 RACE 7 – 1, 3, 5, 6, 11 RACE 8 – 5, 6, 10 Bet Now
