Greg Hooper’s Ascot Preview Posted on January 27, 2017 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Small field but a good competitive line-up to start the day. ACHERNAR STAR impressed on debut and was immediately tipped out for a spell. He’s trialled well and is the one to beat. MELROS BEACH looked good in the same trial. DEBELLATIO has won both trials after getting well back off the speed. He looks sharp. COLOURFUL CHARADE next best. Numbers – 1 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – ACHERNAR STAR WIN RACE 2 UNDISCLOSED looks a very talented filly. She’s two from two including a emphatic first-up win at Pinjarra where she cleared out to race away and win by 6 lengths. She will park right on the speed and should stay undefeated. SLIK SAM ran well against the older horses last start. He will enjoy a strong tempo. GEE BOSS and DAINTY TESS next best. Numbers – 6 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – UNDISCLOSED WIN SuperPick - Race 2 No. 6 UNDISCLOSED - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 3 CAYMAN BOUND was solid first-up at Albany. Jarrad Noske is a big plus in these maidens as his aggressive style should ensure he settles handy to the speed. ME ‘N’ TAZ was probably in need of the run at Pinjarra. He can improve. BLUE HOUDINI raced flat last week. He’s probably better being ridden off the speed. OUR MAORI BOY goes close if he can repeat his last start effort. Numbers – 9 – 10 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – CAYMAN BOUND WIN RACE 4 PINZU has been super form this campaign. He’ll sit off the speed and charge late again. MAKATIE’S KEEPER is in great form at Bunbury. This is a step but she will only carry 51kg after the claim for Kate Witten. SASSO’S CIRCUS is consistent and will tag the speed. THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN can improve at his second run back from a spell and will appreciate the rise to 1600m. Numbers – 2 – 10 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – PINZU WIN RACE 5 IT’S IT resumes from a spell without a trial however he usually races well fresh and can park right on the speed. He can run well at big prices. DURENDAL is bursting to win a race in WA. VOLKOFF is flying and has big claims. The 1200m is the query. POTENT SECRET can lead and give a sight. Suggested – 6 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – IT’S IT AND DURENDAL RACE 6 JETOOMY looks ready to win. He was enormous in defeat at Pinjarra and this looks no harder. MACAVITY is a tough grinding type with claims again. I DONE IT can lead and give a sight. QUITE REGAL may improve with some weight relief. Numbers – 5 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – JETOOMY WIN RACE 7 MAJINIKA resumes from a spell with the benefit of two trials. He was a big first-up winner last campaign and will take plenty of beating. TANJIER had no luck first-up. The rise to 1400m will be ideal. CELEBRITY DREAM was poor last start. She can improve sharply off that run. KEY TO FAME is tough. He lead and likely finish in the placings again. Numbers – 4 – 6 -12 – 3 Suggested Bet – MAJINIKA AND TANJIER RACE 8 Wide open finish to the program. CANDLELIGHT STAR had no luck in the Mungrup Sprint. His prior form was terrific. SETTLERS CREEK continues to race well without winning. SHALO resumes from a spell with a couple of strong trial efforts. FALCON CREST can run a race fresh. Numbers – 4 – 9 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – CANDLELIGHT STAR AND SETTLERS CREEK QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 RACE 6 – 1, 2, 3, 5 RACE 7 – 3, 4, 6, 12 RACE 8 – 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 Bet Now
