Ascot 12 March – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on March 11, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – CARBINE CLUB OF WA SPONSORED BY COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER GROUP HANDICAP 1000m No. 2 RECOILED – The Jim Taylor trained three-year-old RECOILED looks a special in this opening race of the day. He led and blitzed his rivals on debut. If he can find the front again he should win. (1) DIAMOND TONIQUE was enormous in defeat last start when tramping wide. He looks the danger. (4) PEGGIE’S MAREE is suited with the small field. (6) FIRST AFFAIR has impressed at the provincials. Suggested Bet – Recoiled win RACE 2 – CARBINE CLUB OF NEW ZEALAND SPONSORED BY CBUS PLATE 1000m No. 4 SAUL’S SPECIAL – Intriguing two-year-old race with many of the debutantes having trialled in exceptional order. One of those is SAUL’S SPECIAL who really attacked the line in his last trial win. Harvey and the blinkers go on for this assignment. (9) HIGH CONVICTION comes off two very soft 400m trial wins. The stable has been putting on a clinic with their juvenile brigade this season and she is out of the former gun filly Paris Petard. (7) SPEEDY LADIDI was backed on debut but was a little disappointing. She resumes with the benefit of a soft trial. (1) OUR TIME WILL COME has the race experience and will be in the finish. Suggested Bet – Saul’s Special win RACE 3 – CARBINE CLUB OF HONG KONG SPONSORED BY REDDIFUND HANDICAP 1100m No. 4 WAR PRINCE – This is small but even field. WAR PRINCE battled on well first-up after being caught wide. He should settle right on the speed and give a big sight. (8) KENNOCHA has been scratched twice over the last fortnight with feet issues. If she brings her best she goes close. (5) MIKI TWO TOES drops sharply in distance however he will attack the line late. (2) PETROL POWER is capable and has claims. Suggested Bet – War Prince 1 win / 2 places RACE 4 – CARBINE CLUB OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA SPONSORED BY EBM INSURANCE HANDICAP 1600m No. 6 OUTLAW PETE – Talented four-year-old OUTLAW PETE gets his chance to break back into the winners’ circle. There should be enough speed for him to park midfield and get over the top of them. (3) SAKER has been in terrific form all campaign. He gets all the favours from a good draw and can win again. (1) MUSKETS AT DAWN leads and goes close again. (8) TOP SHOW can improve at her third run back from spell. Suggested Bet – Outlaw Pete 1 win / 2 places RACE 5 – CARBINE CLUB INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS TROPHY 2100m No. 5 DESERT GLOW – The usual suspects clash here and for that reason going wide and selecting the Broome Cup winner, DESERT GLOW. He is a stayer who has always shown ability in his career and his recent trial where he finished right next to last Saturday’s impressive winner Star Exhibit looked strong. (1) COUGAR EXPRESS will lead and give a big sight again. (3)UNLE GEORGE had no luck in the AHA Cup and won a similar race prior. (4) BAYATORIO is a non-winner but Harvey goes on and he is racing well. Suggested Bet – Desert Glow each-way RACE 6 – CARBINE CLUB OF VANUATU SPONSORED BY MINUTOLO DRAFTING HANDICAP 1400m No. 7 ALL GEE – Progressive three-year-old ALL GEE looks one of the better bets on the card. He has won his last two starts in a dominant fashion and he has drawn to either lead of box seat. With 54kg on his back he should beat these. (10) SHARKMOUTH ran well first-up and is another who gets nice weight relief. (1) EUROSUN is a non-winner but will be around the mark again. (5) EMPYREUS can improve on a lacklustre first-up run. Suggested Bet – All Gee save Sharkmouth RACE 7 – DR ALLEN AYLETT OBE SPONSORED BY VOLKWAGEN WANGARA HANDICAP 1200m No.5 FOREVER DIAMONDS – The Grant Williams trained filly FOREVER DIAMONDS should appreciate the drop in trip and class. She was a strong first-up winner and then was fair in listed grade. She’ll settle of the speed and launch late. (1) PATRIMONIO is a gelding of plenty of promise. He is another who will settle off the speed and get home strongly. (9) CORVARA blitzed her rivals on debut. She leads again and is the one to catch. (2) EXPRESS BOY can box seat on the stable mate’s back and has claims. Suggested Bet – Forever Diamonds 1 win / 2 places RACE 8 – WORLD PLUMBING DAY TROPHY 1800m No. 2 SLICK TALKER – Wide open finish to the day. SLICK TALKER has been racing very well all campaign. Ife he can step away well and use his good draw he can win. (3) CONFUSING has won his last two over this trip in top fashion. (11) DRIVE ON ICE is searching for the 1800m. (5) MR MANKINI looks suited with the drop in trip. Suggested Bet – Slick Talker and Confusing QUADDIE RACE 5 – 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 RACE 6 – 5, 7, 10 RACE 7 – 1, 5, 9 RACE 8 – 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 Bet Now
