Scott Embry’s Wednesday Bunbury Preview Posted on January 20, 2026January 20, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LEAFICE will go around an eachway price and on the fresh side should be able to hold a position close-handy. The rail goes back to the true and expecting it to go back to on-speed, on-fence and considering this is not a deep maiden by any stretch (two fancies likely coming out of Albany maidens) think she can run well. Her debut behind Think Pink Daze, Just Walter John and Ripper Rupert was a better quality maiden than this. DARK OPAL travels well but has nothing in the tank when asked. Would prefer if it was 1000 but if she’s ever going to pinch one then barrier 1 at Bunbury rail true looks her go. DANCING SPIRIT was good on debut and now has shades, just wary she likely gets back? MAGGIE JEAN trialled well and has shown glimpses. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – LEAFICE EACHWAY RACE 2 MORF comes through the most obvious form reference, a 3 year old Plate when splitting Western Ace and Major Mario. Both of those gallopers were individual winners on Westspeed Platinum Day at their previous outings and after the Holly Nottle claim he only carries 54.5kg in an All Age Maiden. Rolls forward, makes his own luck and has more upside than most of these. MAGIC CARATS threw away the race last start with poor manners laying inwards and proving a horror ride in the home straight. Connections now call on Pike and he has been knocking on the door all prep. XELCIMUS just does too much wrong. Deserves one. MIDNIGHT STAR isn’t a Cerise and White Star but she’s going to be winning races. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – MORF WIN RACE 3 EXCELINDEED is an Ex-Victorian who won a 1200m maiden when leading and kicking clear by a 2.25L margin at Seymore back in February 2025 and since then has placed twice in 3 year old BM64 and 3yo BM70 (~ 3 year old mid-week company) at 1200 and 1400. He kicks off his WA career with the Pearce Brothers over 1000m off the back of a solid trial at Lark Hill. This is a brilliant kick off point, a race without much depth to it and after the Nottle claim he looks very hard to beat. #data says he’s the one. EARL IT IS went around at $18 first start for new trainer Summer Dickson and really seemed to appreciate being kept to the short course. He sat parked throughout and won well, however, just a little wary that the visual elements were better than it seems because three deep (and further out) was place to be at that meeting. SO IMMACULATE has been alright since heading to WA. MAKWELL SMART is quick. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – EXCELINDEED WIN RACE 4 CHINO LA DIVA again finds a 46+. The last time she dropped into this grade she arguably should have won, finishing a completely luckless fourth when held up behind a wall of horses and seemingly bolting. In between she’s contested another Saturday event and just seems found out at that level. This is very winnable but it’s potential box seat under 61kg again. JUST GIFTED looks like being a nice acquisition for new trainer Tim Crosby and this former Peters Investments mare is well placed after finishing third to State of Fury and River Angel in a C3 after breezing. Good race for her. ROMANCE CALLING broke her maiden impressively at double figures at Northam for previous trainer LK Fernie but the story of that day was Nine Ball not showing up at $1.24. IF I DIN HAVADIME slides back into a 46+ and the claim is perfect. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – CHINO LA DIVA WIN RACE 5 HEYFIELD BOOMER should get conditions to suit and can bounce back into this grade. He’s a bit of an all or nothing type conveyance but if it’s on speed, on fence at Bunbury then he should be in front for a fair way at an eachway price. Worth a throw at the stumps and worth remembering both speed horses popped in that first- up race. GIRLS ON FIRE won a C1 1200 at Bunbury before heading to a 3 year old Plate and finishing second to Heeza Phoenix (placed in a Fairthea and WA Guineas and will ultimately head to an Australian Guineas all things being well). She’s had the typical Michael Lane 2x trials and while the Pads on are a concern she’s drawn to get a lovely run midfield with cover. RIPPER RUPERT won well first-up from the box seat and then did it far too tough in a 3 year old Plate when wide throughout and only beaten under 3L. HIGHLAND FLAIR was thrown in the deep end first-up and ran really well. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – HEYFIELD BOOMER EACHWAY RACE 6 ELIVA STAR beat Morf in her maiden (races earlier in the program) and then went straight into a Westspeed Platinum 1200 when beaten less than 2L by Later Alligator, On Patrol and subsequent winner Helluva Goddess (as well as Desert Dancing in fourth). Back into a C1, trained locally and maps to get a gun run over the speed. Looks a great opportunity for her to go two from three for the new stable. ANTZ PANTZ BABY had blinkers applied second-up and kept coming behind subsequent winner Pure Silver. Looks ready now. SETAGAYA trialled well and then found the line alright at Albany. Back into a C1 from a 58+ helps big time and Pike sticks. ICANDOIT ONMYOWN might be able to side forward at odds. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 11 – 10 Suggested Bet – ELVIRA STAR WIN RACE 7 AZABELLE was the biggest forgive of 2026 so far when crossed mid-stages and then dragged back behind a tiring runner from the 500 onwards. After leading went to box seat and then all of a sudden turned near last and the race was all over. Forgive, forget and expect she’ll go close here. SHAZAIR got the better of them last start after parking wide from a fair way out and that does look to suit her, being allowed to stride with room to move, and realistically don’t think this C3 is much deeper than the C1 she comes through. Can win again. BIRD ON A WIRE has been a model of consistency throughout her entire career and just like mum seems 1600 – 1800 is her sweet spot. OISIN doesn’t stay – figured that out the hard way last start! Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – AZABELLE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3 3,5,7,8 3,7,11 1,3 Market Market
