Michael Heaton’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on October 3, 2025October 3, 2025 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 PYGMALION’S formlines jump off the page when you consider he’s run second to Snitzalatte and Elite Beau at his 2 race starts to date. He should enjoy a soft run just behind the speed and be hard to hold out late. VIVALDA trialled up well and was good first up but didn’t quite let down as expected last start. SALTY MISS caught the eye when making good late ground in her 2 recent trials and showed enough last prep. GABEX trialled quite well with blinkers on back in May but didn’t wear them in her recent trial nor on debut here. Numbers: 3-6-4-9 Suggested Bet – PYGMALION WIN RACE 2 OSCARS NO GROUCH has trialled up nicely under little pressure on 2 occasions and looks a professional enough type who should produce a forward showing on debut. Drawn well and appears to have ability. I’M A SOULMAN didn’t jump all that well in either his trial or race debut but mustered quickly to settle on-speed and stick on well. If he begins cleanly he should be there for a long way. NOW YOU SEE ME was beaten less than 2 lengths in the same race when looming and peaking last start which suggests he’ll be better for the run. BY THE WOOD is the first foal out of former star mare Fabergino and still looks raw but improved sharply in her second trial. Numbers: 4-3-1-9 Suggested Bet – OSCARS NO GROUCH WIN RACE 3 WONDERFULLY MADE produced an eye-catching debut at Ascot last preparation before an end-of-prep run in the Gimcrack Stakes. She was kept under a hold in her recent trial and looks like a very nice filly who could be in for a big campaign. QUIET GODDESS looks a big, imposing filly who will relish more ground in time but her trials across 2 preparations have been encouraging. PROFOUND BENEFIT is knocking on the door with placings at 3 of his 4 starts this time in but is now a 14-start maiden. BUON AMICI showed more than enough last campaign but was going backwards in his recent trial. Numbers: 13-10-1-4 Suggested Bet – WONDERFULLY MADE WIN RACE 4 VIENNA CALLING produced a cheeky run on debut then made ground from the rear of the field to finish fifth to Playin’it Sweet and Snitzalatte in a 3YO Plate last start. She now rises from 1000m to 1300m but should be able to position up a bit closer, drops back to maiden grade and looks ready to win. GOD’S GRIN was jumping out of the ground late when second to Rolling Ruler first up over 1100m and the extra 200m here suits but it looks a tough map from the extreme outside draw. SPEAK OF THE DEVIL made an encouraging return in the same race first up when posted 3-deep and fighting on for third. DOBLE OH NADA didn’t look as comfortable on the heavy-8 last start but was huge first up. Numbers: 12-8-1-3 Suggested Bet – VIENNA CALLING WIN RACE 5 SAULOK had to sit outside a brutal tempo second up after a big first up run a fortnight prior and faded late. He stays in the same grade but drops 4kg after Holly Nottle’s claim in a race with less speed and has options from the draw. IMPOSSIBLE DREAM has been good at her last 2 starts and all 3 of her career wins have come at Northam. Steps to a mile now but she’s an honest mare who should enjoy the run of the race. OMERTA GRACE ran well first up and should continue to improve as the distances increase. EL PATRON doesn’t win out of turn but had to do a bit of work last start and usually isn’t too far away in this grade. Numbers: 5-3-2-1 Suggested Bet – SAULOK WIN RACE 6 TORONADO ROCKET rises in grade and weight which is always difficult for maiden winners heading to a C1 but he let down like a horse capable of going through the lower grades. Lightly-raced 4YO who appears to have upside and is looking for 1400m. ZIPPY ZANY is on trial at 1400m but is going well and drops 2.5kg from her last-start second to Spank Appeal. SHAULA has been freshened and ran a great race first up last prep when second to subsequent winner Kervette in a C3. BRIEF ROMANCE gets winkers on for the first time at her second start for Jason Miller. Numbers: 2-5-4-6 Suggested Bet – TORONADO ROCKET WIN RACE 7 GOLD VANCOUVER was always a query at 1200m at Saturday level last start and now looks beautifully placed backing up off 8 days into the same grade and distance she won at 2 starts back. She’s undefeated (2 from 2) at Northam, has won 3 from 4 at 1100m and looks the map horse. MANTUA has his second start in WA and looks an honest type who should be a good money spinner for connections. He’ll be fitter for the run and now gets Pike. THIS’LL SHOW YA is going well and is undefeated at Northam (3 from 3) but has a sticky map to overcome being drawn outside the other speed, whilst also conceding weight to Gold Vancouver for being beaten by him last start. SWANSEE resumes and is eligible for easier but she’s a lightly-raced 4YO with ability and has a good racing pattern. Numbers: 4-3-7-11 Suggested Bet – GOLD VANCOUVER WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,8,12 1,2,3,5,8 2,4,5 3,4,7,11 Market Market
