Scott Embry’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on June 6, 2025June 6, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DIAMONDS’N’RUBIES ran a ripper on debut beaten 4L by Daytona Pete and then ran into sharp filly Supernatural in another 3 year old Saturday. Recent trial was as good as Scenic George and is drawn to get every chance. SCENIC GEORGE didn’t come up last preparation and raced lengths below his best. His prior campaign as a 2 year old was quite encouraging and he finished in the money on four occasions, including on a Saturday. SETAGAYA went around as a $2.70 favourite and a $1.65 favourite in defeat at Albany and Mt Barker last preparation, but worth remembering at that stage the Adam Durrant yard wasn’t producing winners. Now it is. TALKAWAY ran second to Flower Of Gold on debut. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – DIAMONDS’N’RUBIES WIN RACE 2 VAIN UNIVERSE gives 4kg Hong Kong apprentice Jefferson Tsang a big look in at his first winner in the saddle. Simon Miller loves giving his apprentice a ‘sit and steer’ and this looks to be Jefferson’s. On debut at Pinjarra ran second to Alot of Roses and then at her second outing went to a metro maiden and finished 3.2L off Snow God. Recent trial was good and this race is thin. CHASON WINS has raced down the 1000m straight more often than not so far in her short career. Last start her best to date. TOKEN KING trialled a few times at Packenham before being on-sold and heading to WA. MAZZETTI continues to run honest races. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – VAIN UNIVERSE WIN RACE 3 ANNIE WARBUCKS has put the writing on the wall at her last two outings. Huge from a mile back behind Mt Shirataku (now a C3 winner) and then ran into a smart debut winner Opportunistic last time out. This is the weakest maiden she has seen this preparation and she’s clearly come back bigger and better. PRETEY ROYAL covered plenty of ground last start and came wide on straightening but never gave it away. ALABRAE and WOLFMAN are both through the Highly Spoken maiden where they actually ran the clock in a surprisingly high rating maiden. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – ANNIE WARBUCKS WIN RACE 4 SPANGLEDSTAR is now a 10 start maiden but with Brad Parnham going on, on the 6 day back-up, from the inside barrier she’s worth another go. She’s no star but neither is anything in this line-up and she can finally settle a bit closer and not conceded them such a head start. AURORA QUEEN went close to knocking off a 1300m maiden two back and then only faded late behind Sky River last time out. YANKEE ACE caught the eye late behind My Harv first-up and should enjoy an economical run. BRINGITHOMEALABAMA has been scratched twice recently looking for the right set up. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SPANGLEDSTAR WIN RACE 5 STRICTLY CASH led and won a C1 1400 to end last preparation and his first-up effort behind in form sprinter Lord Shiva over 1000m was super. Looks to have found a winnable race. WINNING ACES was super last start behind Ideally in a C3 mile at Pinjarra. He’s flying for new trainer Angela Johnston, however, unfortunately there’s only one way to ride him and that’s extremely negative. WAYNE THE PAIN is well placed back into a 46+. His last five outings have been 2x 60+, 2x 52+ and a 50+. Would have preferred a wet track but don’t discount him. TOP OF THE POPS is also really well placed and a great use of the 4kg claim. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – STRICTLY CASH WIN RACE 6 SIR DUSKIN was stiff last start behind Mirrorschino. He never got a crack at them until the race was over and looked to be travelling well enough to make a race of it late had he got any clear galloping room. Back in distance, down in weight, worth following up on. Faster they go the better for him. BUCKLAND was given a 10/10 by Holly Nottle in her first ever race ride. He’s the perfect apprentice’s horse and will give plenty of cheek again. 1/42 is the concern. WOZZECK has returned in good order. He’s hard to catch but seems to go well at Northam and will get every chance from the draw. ODIN OMEN was a handy fresh run and does no work along the fence line. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – SIR DUSKIN WIN RACE 7 CANTRIX was too sharp for a handy galloper in Our Paladin Al on debut and then at her second start was a month between runs, went back and rattled home behind Mighty Hosanna. Love the versatility she’s shown and think this is very winnable for her. SHOWLAS showed plenty in her initial preparation of racing and is produced first-up, no trial with only 55kg after Ava Catarino’s claim. BATTLE FLEET looks a monstrous galloper from the trial vision. ETERNAL ROMANCE should park in behind a spirited early speed battle and enjoy the run of the race. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – CANTRIX WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,8 1,2,5,8,9,10 1,3,7 4,5,6,7 Market Market
