Chris Nelson’s Tuesday Doomben Preview Posted on March 31, 2025March 31, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben on Saturday will be on wet ground, could easily be in the heavy range, keep your eyes on the skies. This opening race is a very difficult one to sort & by the time we get to scratching time at 7.30am on race day morning half of them will likely be scratched! The lightly raced (2) CHO OYU is a veteran of just the 2 starts winning on debut before running home well at Eagle Farm first up recently. Neither of those runs have been on dry ground, yes that’s a concern however he may be quite capable, can’t sack them when they haven’t been over it. (9) KING POTTER strolled home here on a soft (6) when debuting, that was 1110m, this is 1200m, always a bit of a concern. (14) MEHRETU will be strong late. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 14 – 3 Suggested Bet: Go as wide as possible with exotics. RACE 2 The only danger to (1) PRINCE LEVI here is the wet track as he hasn’t seen one to date. His form is clearly better than anything else going around in this race though & I get the feeling he’s now looking for the step up in trip & coming back to Doomben certainly won’t harm his chances either. Ex-Kiwi (3) LIBERTY PARK has good wet track form back home, too far back fresh can improve sharply in the damp conditions. (6) THE DARK SIDE should have finished closer last start if not for being held up, one to include in exotics. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet: PRINCE LEVI TO WIN. RACE 3 Looks a very suitable race for (2) ADIELLA however in the likely conditions I’m not keen to take anything in red figures. She hit the line strongly both two back & last start, with the claim for Cobi Vitler she’ll carry only 0.5kg than latest run & her record on all types of going is a good one. (3) HEYOKA would likely be better suited on something dry however is going too well to dismiss. (5) APRIL IN AUGUSTA could show up in the placings, she does like to get her toe in. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet: ADIELLA TO WIN ($2.00 or better). RACE 4 (1) RIMBAUD should prove hard to beat here off a very tough last start second behind the in-form Ser Joh who was able to drive past late. He accounted for the subsequent winner Winsome Star the start prior & his soft track form is good, failed only heavy go however I’m prepared to overlook that as it was much earlier in his career. The connections of (11) JONNY DA WOLF accepted for 3 races on this card, this is the one they have chosen, have to respect, he must be going well? (2) HANG FIVE could be an improver, his strike rate is better on wet ground than dry. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 5 (15) RHUVAAL is racing in great order this prep & deserves a crack at Saturday company. Dominant winning his maiden two back he then went right on with the job charging past his rivals at Eagle Farm on a soft (7) surface to score again next outing. He gets a little weight relief & an additional 200m which on face value suit nicely. Another in-form runner (12) VORACIOUS will take plenty of running down based on what he’s done this prep winning both races from the front, up to a mile today which wasn’t a problem when trained down south & note that last win did come on a soft (7) deck. (10) KALUMBURU has motored to the line both runs this campaign, failed only try this trip to date, give another chance. Numbers: 15 – 12 – 10 – 16 Suggested Bet: RHUVAAL EACH-WAY/Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of (5) THANKYOU HENRY who will be peaking at his third run back from a break. He just left his run a little too late here last start when beating all bar the winner CERTAINLYCAN who he meets again & actually worse at the weights. The wet ground is more in his favour though & I’m confident he can turn the tables. (6) CERTAINLYCAN definitely still the main danger, she’s found some consistency now & will give a big sight once again for the always in form Emily Lang. (4) JOHN RAMBO will be doing his best work late, so often he’s just warming up at the business end of the race. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet: THANKYOU HENRY TO WIN. RACE 7 (11) SCARLET PRINCE has really hit form this prep winning a couple on the trot before coming to metro Saturday grade last start when beating all bar Waltham who was dominant late however that’s no knock as he’s very smart on his day. She absolutely loves wet ground, all important today. (14) AIDEN tends to always go around at odds yet is never far away, down in the weights he can fill a placing. 2000m is as far as (10) NAVAL SEAL wants it however he’s going well enough to at least place. Numbers: 11 – 14 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet: SCARLET PRINCE EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Down in weight goes (11) IMATRUESTAR off a couple of very good runs winning two back before finishing close up the latest. Although yet to win on wet ground he’s placed 5 times on soft & twice on heavy, that’s a pass mark. (1) TENZING is better than most if not all of these, handles the ground ok however we haven’t seen him for a month, will he need the hit out? Betting? Include (12) RED DEFCON who is flying & (10) VICTORY WIN. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 12 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 The Ciaron Maher trained galloper (1) GOODLUCKTOME gets the nod here off an Eagle Farm win last start when stalking the speed. He’s got plenty of weight to lump here however from the draw will again land a good run in the race, not proven in the ground though, placed once on soft from a couple of attempts. (2) APUNTAR can improve second up, importantly is a soft & heavy track winner. (5) YABBY PUMP is a bit of an unknown, not here for the weather though (that’s for sure…). (4) MR BUBBALEWSKI right up amongst the chances whilst I liked the way (3) POSTER GIRL found the line last start to score, she has shown that type of finish on more than one occasion, should they be running on ok today include her. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 5 selections in exotics. RACE 10 I’ll tip (10) SWISS EXILE who looks very well placed other than the 1350m trip. He’s had his chances of late out to this distance without finishing off, this is not a strong race though & the wet ground definitely works in his favour. (16) PIZARRO gave away too much start here last week in a leader dominated race, previous two runs were fast closing, the claim & wet track are definite positives for him, wouldn’t be hard to reverse my selections, which may end up being the case. (9) HATCHET always a chance, (4) KERCHAK can run a race fresh. Numbers: 10 – 16 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet: SWISS EXILE & PIZARRO TO WIN (small bets). Market Market
