Chris Nelson’s Friday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on January 31, 2025January 31, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Night racing this evening on the Sunshine Coast will be on a dry track. We open up the meeting with a couple of distance races the first of which is a maiden. Suggest there’s a few here who will likely never see the winners stall, main chances look to be nos.2, 4 & 5 which looks fairly clear cut. NAVILLUS HELLFIRE closed off nicely to just miss out at the Gold Coast a week back, based on that the step up in distance should suit. CUT DIAMONDS gets a little weight relief, very one-paced though, BETTER BELIEVE IT some chance, poor strike rate doesn’t enthuse though. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: Exotics best. RACE 2 Keen on the chances of the lightly raced KOVANOS here, she was a winner this track over 1800m three starts back before proving too strong for her opposition over slightly further at Ballina last start. She didn’t beat any stars there; she’s not meeting any stars here & the progression to 2200m looks very suitable. OUR ORATOR goes to the longer trip for the first time, bit one-paced may well appreciate the step up in trip. SON OF SATONO leads, in form & at this level may take some running down if able to get away with a few cheap sectionals. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: KOVANOS TO WIN. RACE 3 I’ve got ZOUSAIN GIRL on top here as I liked her recent trial when out the back early before making good ground all the way down the straight. However, I was wary of another debutante SCRIPTUS VIVACE who hasn’t been to any ‘official’ trials & comes from a big betting stable. Well, as soon as the markets went up she was crunched so she is likely the one to beat. BENT BRIDGE has the race experience & will find this an easier task than her debut in town. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: ZOUSAIN GIRL/SCRIPTUS VIVACE TO WIN. RACE 4 FASHION FLASH has come up short in early markets, hopefully we will get something nearer black figures as she does look the one to beat on paper & her recent dominant trial win here. Only the 3 starts to date she has placed at all of those with the latest over 1400m back in October. 1200m fresh can test some runners, doubt that will be the case with her. FRATIANNO also resumes, can find the line however will give a start. WARNA & WAKU WAKU have both shown up in recent trials, well worth including in exotics at least. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet: FASHION FLASH TO WIN. RACE 5 Going with the consistent LION CLASS to get the job done here. Hasn’t missed a placing at his past 5 starts which includes a win here over this trip at this exact level 3 starts back. Placed both outings since he’ll carry a little more weight this time around however I don’t see that being a major issue. ITALIAN DANCER has been a little disappointing this prep after winning first up, placed his last couple though he looks reasonably placed here. Expect improvement from SELEOUS whilst I AM LETHAL is in the place mix, first up form nothing special, has trialled well though, market watch. Numbers: 4 – 16 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: LION CLASS TO WIN. RACE 6 Small numbers in this race where I’ll go a little left field & put the third favourite in the morning line AIR MARSHALL on top. Don’t want to take anything under around $5 as there are a couple of queries with him being his form out to this longer trip & the fact he could be left flat footed in a sit/sprint affair. The positive was his finishing effort here last start making good ground in an unsuitably run race. BILLIONAIR BAY has found some consistency of late & looms as the logical threat although keep in mind is 6 weeks between outings. PRIME ASSET & TYNDRUM GOLD the others in with a chance. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: AIR MARSHALL (small bet). RACE 7 We wind up the night with a mile contest where LAVONI looks very well placed to break through. A model of consistency she just tends to struggle a little to find the line first however this looks a very suitable affair & she did chase in in form type home last start who has performed well in town of late. Expect improvement from CLIPPER SHIP back to an easier race, pace & class too hot last time out, does race well here. Monitor market moves for RUSSIAN MYSTIC who can improve sharply second-up. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: LAVONI TO WIN. Market Market
