Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on August 22, 2024August 22, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben under sunny skies & warm temperatures. Interesting race the opener as we have a couple from the Kendrick stable on the Sunshine Coast who provide plenty of interest being JUST PRECIOUS & CREATIVITY MISS. The former is unraced however looked good closing off nicely in a recent home track trial under no pressure whatsoever, bred to appreciate 1350m on debut. CREATIVITY MISS played up at the start & settled well back before closing strongly at her initial outing. Both can win however I’ll lean to the consistent MISTER BIANCO who was beaten narrowly on debut & is yet to be defeated since, latest was good against the race tempo. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Going with TANNENBURG who was an Eagle Farm winner two starts back before being held up early in the straight here last start. That proved to be critical as he had to wait & comes across heels before closing off strongly. Good gate tomorrow should settle much closer & can go a couple better. VICTORY WIN is another with a good draw who will get every chance, include. Don’t be surprised to see TRIPLE MONEY run a forward race fresh. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: TANNENBURG EACH-WAY. RACE 3 OUR ANCHORAGE brings the Sydney Saturday form to this race & likely wins however taking short odds about any runner in these restricted distance affairs is road not worth travelling. At a price I’m suggesting something each-way OLD SONG who has been finding the line well of late. Back from 2200m to 1400m last start she still closed off soundly over the latter stages. SPRAY GUN & GLEN MASSEY both chances, the former should handle the step up in trip just fine. Numbers: 12 – 8 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: OLD SONG EACH-WAY (very small bet). RACE 4 CORFE CASTLE caught the eye running home solidly here a month back in a race which wasn’t run to suit. He’s third up this afternoon stepping to a favourable trip & the gap between starts shouldn’t be an issue as he’s raced well under similar conditions in the past. WARBY is just your typical backmarker always running on, honest as the day is long, he’s due & a win wouldn’t be any surprise. BLAZEN BOOTS & READY AZZ EVA (disappointing last start) can figure in the finish. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 13 Suggested Bet: CORFE CASTLE EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Going with the last start winner BUILLT who was having his second local outing when a winner here which followed an interrupted preparation down south where he just kept finding wet track after wet track. That certainly won’t be the case today & he should strip a fitter horse off that latest win. UNCOMMON VALOUR closed nicely last start which was his third run back, staying at 1600m not ideal however shouldn’t be overlooked. Wide gate for SAILOR who has been here once for a win over this distance, solid win last start. Numbers: 2 – 12 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet: BUILLT EACH-WAY. RACE 6 AVONE looks very hard to beat here, she ticks a lot of boxes bar a Good track win. This track may well be kept on the softer side of Good which will suit however at this stage that’s an unknown. She was dominant at the Sunshine Coast when back in distance & down in the weights last start, she drops even further today & maps perfectly behind what could be a strong speed. Don’t underestimate OSAMU who will likely lead & give a good kick. MR GALAZI lost on protest last start, no hard luck story out of it, he’s a consistent type. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet: AVONE TO WIN. RACE 7 Very keen on the chances of BOHEMIAN LAD in this race. He’s been a model of consistency all prep coming out of good form races (Invincible Shield) & races run in slick times. For mine he was a good thing beaten last start when held up badly & can make amends this afternoon. HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER has had nothing go right for her at her last 3 starts, should she just have even luck she can improve plenty. TSARINA SOPHIA is having start number one for Tony Gollan, has ability however just lost her way this prep, don’t be surprised to see a decent form turnaround now in the premier yard. Numbers: 4 – 14 – 15 – 12 Suggested Bet: BOHEMIAN LAD TO WIN. RACE 8 Very keen on the chances of BOOM TORQUE second up. Really caught the eye charging to the line over an unsuitably short trip when resuming here a fortnight back. His sectionals were very strong, he’ll lap up the additional 150m & from around midfield I’d expect him to be rounding these up with 100m to go. JAYANTHI is a good price, may need a bit more tempo than we’ve got on paper however she’s flying this prep. MAJORELLE likely leads & strips fitter for the first up run, can give a sight. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: BOOM TORQUE TO WIN. RACE 9 Found this final race a very tough one to sort. I was hoping for a better price for TIDAL CREEK however that’s not the case in early markets. He’s a very consistent type who is right at his peak now fifth run back from a break & with the claim & good alley things do look appealing on paper. THIS’LLBETHEONE the main danger dropping in weight yet going around in the same grade. MILITARY EXPERT could be an improver, maps to just about lead & Maloney jumping on is a good pointer. Numbers: 10 – 14 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
