Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on May 16, 2024May 16, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SET THE SCENE had six runs at Carnarvon last season for 2 wins and 2 minors. He has won a 58+ 1400 at Geraldton earlier in the season and he can hold a prominent spot from the draw. Drops back in distance, returns to the dirt and should go well in a race like this. MULTINOVA MAN can be a handful behind the gates but provided he loads he’ll take beating. Ray Malpass’ horses fly at Carnarvon and he’s more than capable of returning a fresh winner. ORTUM KRISP has speed and has race fitness on her side. GILT DRAGON was good at Carnarvon last time he raced there. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SET THE SCENE WIN RACE 2 Aaron Pateman has a two-prong attack with MANTELLI and MIR both attacking this first-up. MANTELLI is a capable 1000m sprinter and finally broke a long run of outs at Narrogin in a 52+ and then missed the kick at Pingrup 2 days later. Won a recent 950m Lark Hill trial beating some handy types and ran really good time. Gives returning hoop Kate Pateman a great chance at a winner. MIR has bars on and drops back 900m but all the form last preparation holds up for a race like this. MRS KANGAROO has speed and only has 52kg on her back. Takes running down. EIN STEIN has his first start for a new trainer and has enough pace to hold a spot on the fresh side. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – MANTELLI WIN RACE 3 RAGING BEAUTY had five runs at Carnarvon last season – broke her maiden by almost 4L and then ran minors at her next three. Race fit from the Geraldton season, like the booking of Simone Altieri, drops back into a C1 after finishing 2.2L off Catch The Red Eye and can nearly lead this field. Should go well. MADAME PRO comes through the same race as Raging Beauty – met with support in betting and had genuine excuses. Keep very safe. CLASSADO might want further but did finish on the heels of Madame Pro when they met at York. PEPPI GROVE is hit and miss but on her day she’s more than handy. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – RAGING BEAUTY WIN RACE 4 WOJTEK was off a 6 week freshen when leading and fading late behind in form galloper Make Mine Super. Drawn to find a prominent spot in running and think he’ll measure up in this. CRYSTAL VAIN looks a really strong winning chance here, even with 62kg and an outside gate. Often at Carnarvon wide and out of trouble is the best place and he won a C5 1200 at York two back in style before coming to grief at Narrogin. KLONDIKE KENNY ran second in a 64+ 1000 first-up last campaign and then won back to back races with 61kg and 62.5kg. Don’t discount the old boy. SHAMARA finds a new home and goes well at Carnarvon. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – WOJTEK WIN RACE 5 CHEDDAR BOB finished 2L off Amber Glide and Fleuro Neuro one day at Ascot in an 1100m maiden and then finished in the minor money in 1200m and 1300m maidens at Pinjarra and Northam in the same preparation. He has a level of ability (for a Carnarvon maiden) and if he handles the dirt he can win this. DESTRUCTOR is a long time maiden but he’s got the speed to come out running and has race fitness. GINGER JIVE is a long time maiden but she’s got speed and the punters have been backing her at Geraldton recently. FAIR GRACE won a recent Geraldton trial and did win a race at Laverton before copping a DQ. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – CHEDDAR BOB WIN RACE 6 TEST OF STRENGTH and WUHAN WARRIOR looks set to battle it out over 1000m in the best race of the day. TEST OF STRENGTH won a C3 1000, a 56+ 1200 and a 64+ 1200 to start last season and was running time and winning in dominant fashion. WUHAN WARRIOR is proven on the dirt in Broome and lead to win a C5 1190 at Narrogin before burning turf at Pinjarra 7 days later. Think one of them wins? REGAL CITY will want further than 1000m but even with 62kg he must be respected. SPEEDING COMET is always there abouts in this grade but may take a run or two to reach peak fitness. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – TEST OF STRENGTH WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 5,7,8,10,11 1,2,7,8 2,3,10,11 7,8 Market Market
