Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on February 8, 2024February 8, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Wouldn’t be taking a short price about anything in this race as we have a bunch of debutantes taking on experienced rivals, doubt there’s any future starts amongst them. I landed on MISS BUSSLINGER who was solid enough behind El Morzillo at the Sunshine Coast, suggest the additional 100m or so will suit. Liked the trial of AIKAU at Deagon, looked to have gas in the tank. FIELDS AMOUR got the job done on debut, takes on 310m further & draws the outside gate. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 All over the second-up FUKUBANA however obtaining a decent price could be a tough assignment. Impressive on debut he then beat all bar the winner at Rosehill in a Saturday metro affair, drawn wide first up here recently he went back before running home well late. Good gate, up in distance this race looks made to order. VINDICTA chased home the impressive Highbar at the Sunshine Coast, goes to 1200m which is an unknown? Not a lot between the rest of them. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: FUKUBANA TO WIN RACE 3 Found this a tough race. I’ll stick with the very much in form KORUTO however I’m well aware this is not Eagle Farm where he’s been racing very well of late capped off by a fast-closing win last Saturday over 1815m. The 2000m should suit based on that though & he’s not a bad price. The Waller trained CABOCHE split a couple of talented types down south at his last run, he’ll settle on speed however the big weight may test him late? Give ARTFUL GIRL another chance, I was super keen on her last week however she gave very little in the straight. Getting back to Doomben may work in her favour. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Tough, tough race. Going with value putting SIGOURNEY on top & I know she’s going to give away a decent start from that wide gate, in fact I’d suggest she’ll be last. What she can do though is find the line strongly, we saw that at her two Toowoomba wins & then at Eagle Farm over 1400m last start. Suited stepping back up to the mile she’s again going to hit the line hard however just needs to be in touch on the turn. KINETIC is due to bob up in one of these races, today could well be the day. Chances certainly don’t end there though! Numbers: 10 – 13 – 15 – 6 Suggested Bet: SIGOURNEY EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 NOTACLUEHOWORWHO looks well placed to make it 2 wins from his past 3 starts here. Lightly raced for a 5yo he beat a subsequent winner two back before finding the line well last start in a stronger race. With 1.5kg off for the in-form Cejay Graham he looks good value. Not sure what to make of DULY ELECTED however the stable have decided to step him up in distance today, could be an improver? RUSSIAN MYSIC in the mix, has raced well since joining the Barry Lockwood yard. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: NOTACLUEHOWORWHO EACH-WAY RACE 6 I’ve got JOHN RAMBO on top here however I wouldn’t be taking a silly price, somewhere around the $4.00 mark looks about right. Back to a far more suitable grade last start he was ridden a peach of a race by Ryan Maloney arriving in good time to score & pulling up heat stressed in the process. Look for him to again be closing late. Same goes for his unbeaten stablemate DAYMO DAYZ who appreciated a solid speed to run down the leaders first up, stays at 1200, likely needs further now though? Include the ever-consistent PARTY SPIRIT. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 3 – 14 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Expecting decent improvement from JAYANTHI who drops back in grade after finishing out of the placings both runs this time in. She does have a liking for this track & trip & drawn down low she can land a very soft run not being called upon until needed in the straight, she’ll just need that touch of luck getting into the clear. NORTHERN EXPRESS impressed winning at the Sunshine Coast, does have some solid form lines & should be further improved. MAHBABY was good last start, didn’t have a lot go her way in the straight. Numbers: 12 – 5 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet: JAYANTHI EACH-WAY. RACE 8 LAST CHANCE SALOON is 2 from 4 this prep which should read 3 from 4 & keep in mind the other defeat was by an eyelash. Good thing beaten two back he made up for that last start closing strongly to score over 1400m with 59kg. Based on that the mile suits, he drops in weight & has plenty of upside. ANYTHINK GOES has been racing well in Sydney, I see him looking a big chance in the straight before hopefully LAST CHANCE SALOON arrives on the scene! REDWOOD SHADOW third-up is suited out to the longer trip. Numbers: 14 – 5 – 12 – 3 Suggested Bet: LAST CHANCE SALOON EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Interesting race, the two at the top of the market KINLOCH & BOOM TORQUE both race off speed, their wide gates will ensure they give away big starts & around this track that’s a concern. HATCHET doesn’t race on speed however he’s going to be a lot closer in the run than they are & from the inside alley may end up in a great spot, with room in the straight look out as he can find the line very strongly. Throw ANIMATE into wide exotics as he may end up leading in what looks like possibly being a very slowly run affair. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: HATCHET EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Sticking with CORFE CASTLE in this closing race who should land a good run close to the speed for premier jockey Jimmy Orman. He broke through for a solid win last start from a wide draw & drops in weight tacking this slightly stronger affair, Doomben should suit his pattern of racing nicely. VIMINELE is racing well, if not for a slow start his latest run he could be going for two on the trot. Well supported HELLAVADANCER got the money last start, no reason she can’t run well again. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet: CORFE CASTLE EACH-WAY. Market Market
