Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on February 1, 2024February 1, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We open up a competitive day’s racing with a Midway which brings together the usual type of suspects. TREIZE will be well fancied by many as she’s lightly raced with a good record & plenty of upside, with no weight the only concern is an awkward draw, suggest we go each-way for that reason. MISS CHECKONI continues to race well, aiming for the hat trick here at a track she’s yet to fire at, wouldn’t overlook on that stat. Monitor any market moves for the resuming PHAROAH’S REIGN who can pull out a run fresh. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 11 – 3 Suggested Bet: TREIZE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 2 AGIRLSBESTFRIEND caught the eye running on late here two weeks back over 1400m at this level. The race was run at a solid tempo which suggests the step up 100m today suits, happy to have something each-way. CENOTES sat wide here in the same race & also finished close up, that won’t be the case off the inside draw today. The consistent MISSILE LEADER in the mix should he gain a start, not far away in a similar race here late last prep. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 17 – 12 Suggested Bet: AGIRLSBESTFRIEND EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 We’re on the path to the Golden Slipper & is shows today with a couple of cracking 2yo races this being the first. There’s some hot trial form going around & this will be a good guide going forward, it’s hard to rule any runner out. TRAFFIC WARDEN beat all bar Strom Boy on debut then won easily at Caulfield, not seen since bar for a recent trial when wide & closing given a soft time. Loved ENHANCE’s latest trial, seems overs? Maybe due to the wide gate? PROST & FEARLESS right in it as well, they all are! Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: TRAFFIC WARDEN TO WIN (small bet) RACE 4 Small field however a very interesting race. I’m going with the horse in form & that’s LADY LAGUNA who rarely runs a bad race & has come back in top form this prep going down narrowly fresh before winning her past couple. J. Mac sticks which is a positive pointer. BALLER didn’t fire at the Gold Coast getting too far back, may be the case again here however his first up runs was good sectionally & he can never be ruled out. MALKOVICH in the mix, not one of mine though. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Second of the 2yo’s this time for the fillies & another super competitive affair. LADY OF CAMELOT started favourite in the Gimcrack off one impressive trial, she sat 3 deep no cover & was run over late. This time around she’s had two trials winning both comfortably & draws gate one, she can atone. Godolphin trained CELERITY looked good running on under no pressure in a trial at Warwick Farm earlier this week, McDonald to steer. WAVE BREAKER goes in through her trials. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: LADY OF CAMELOT/CELERITY TO WIN. RACE 6 Three winning chances in my opinion & there doesn’t appear to be a great deal between them. AGE OF SAIL narrowly defeated MORNING SUN at Warwick Farm when both made their Australian debuts recently, the former took the shortcuts along the fence, the latter came deep. ANGEL OF LIGHT has her fourth run this prep, rock hard fit now & gets to a suitable distance, also gets plenty of weight off her imported rivals. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Very open race. Keep coming back to ROBUSTO who has raced very well this prep having won 2 of his past 3 starts. The defeat sandwiched in between those wins was excusable as the race was run at a ridiculously strong tempo, as a form reference going forward it was always going to be a forgive for any beaten runner bar maybe two. Gets the gun run once again from the inside alley. ESTADIO MESTALLA looks very close now, will likely go back suggesting some luck down the straight may be required. Respecting the Victorian SO RISQUE’s form, LOGAN STREET LION has a good fresh record & shouldn’t be overlooked. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Going to give POWERFUL PEG another chance here third-up from a break. She ran a terrific race when resuming parked out 3 deep beating all bar the winner, she then raced on speed here a fortnight back when unable to fill a placing. That race was run very solidly & she breezed throughout, fitter this time around she should prove harder to get past. INFATUATION takes on the older horses after a couple of good runs against her own age, settles on speed possibly in front. Hard to knock the form of BUILLT who just keeps on winning or placing of late, the drop back in distance likely works against him however he cannot be overlooked. The resuming SALTCOATS has trialled well enough to be a chance also, just the two runs last prep is certainly in the right hands. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: POWERFUL PEG EACH-WAY. RACE 9 OUR KOBISON & DIPSY DOODLE certainly look to have this race by the scruff of the neck! Forced to split the pair I’ll lean to the former who has a couple of advantages over his rival being race fitness & a better gate. DIPSY DOODLE has trialled well & had accepted for another race here today plus one down south, the decision has been made to kick off her prep right here & she’s a big chance of a successful return. SO GOOD SO COOL looks the only other chance. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: OUR KOBISON/DIPSY DOODLE TO WIN RACE 10 Keen on the chances of WALLENDA to close out the day. Lightly raced he can find the line & will appreciate the additional 100m based on his latest when running home similar sectionals to the impressive Caballus. THE BLACK CLOUD is 2 from 2, yes this is a tougher assignment however both wins have been with authority. FRENCH ENDEAVOUR was unbeaten out of Group company last prep, not sure the pole draw is a help or hindrance? Numbers: 12 – 14 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet: WALLENDA TO WIN Market Market
