Warren Huntly’s Saturday Caulfield Preview Posted on February 2, 2024February 2, 2024 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 Competitive race to start the day. EXCOMMUNICADO got the job done on debut but think she can improve on that and has jumped out in the manner of a quality galloper on more than one occasion. LOST has trialled well to resume and has been competitive against some strong opposition in her career to date. BARBY’S DOLL looked good winning her maiden last time. LADY OF POISE was strong late winning on debut and has trialled in similar fashion to resume. Selections: 4,1,3,5 Suggested Bet: Excommunicado each way Race 2 Another competitive race, this one with eight last start winners. JUSTABOOM timed her run well to break through last time and the form around her is holding up ok. SMOKIN’ GIANT dominated rolling along on speed to win on debut and looks suited stepping up to 1800m. CROSSOVERKID comes back to 1800m and is still a maiden but closed off well behind a subsequent stakes winner last start. DUNBELIEVIN’ won his maiden well enough to warrant respect. Selections: 9,1,2,3 Suggested Bet: Justaboom each way Race 3 JOHNNY ROCKER closed off impressively behind a horse that has won again since at his first start for the Ryan stable and looks suited stepping up to 1100m. TANTO is fit, in-form and can measure up to this slightly stronger grade. MISS ICELANDIC dominated an easier race last start and is drawn to settle just behind the speed. BEEKAY has jumped out well to resume and gets blinkers first time. Selections: 3,11,4,2 Suggested Bet: Johnny Rocker to win Race 4 Intriguing two year old race. COLEMAN impressed winning on debut and his recent jumpouts indicate he’s improved his barrier manners. ENEEZA has also been impressive in her career to date and has jumped out in good style to resume. COUNTEROFFENSIVE has trialled up well alongside last week’s impressive winner, High Octane, to kick off his second campaign. EXPRESS YO’SELF and SCAMPI have claims. Selections: 1,2,4,6 Suggested Bet: Coleman to win Race 5 PUNCH LANE had excuses last start after pulling up with a degree of lameness and is drawn well to bounce back. INTREPID EAGLE has returned in great form and gives the impression 1400m will suit. ZONDEE has upside and has jumped out nicely to resume. HOOAH HAVANA may need some luck from the draw but should relish the step up to 1400m. Selections: 7,5,14,4 Suggested Bet: Punch Lane each way Same Race Multi: Punch Lane (Top 2) + Intrepid Eagle (Top 4) Race 6 GRAND PROMENADE ran well first up and has jumped out well on a couple of occasions since. HERMAN HESSE continues to race well and can make his own luck. MONBAHER resumed with a solid effort in the same race as Grand Promenade and will appreciate the rise in distance. FEARENTLESS goes up in class and back in distance but is fit and racing well. Selections: 1,5,3,8 Suggested Bet: Grand Promenade each way Race 7 STAR VEGA has been flying on the Sandown Hillside circuit and should prove hard to beat if he can transfer that form to Caulfield. CAPTAIN BRITAIN may need some luck from the draw but is racing well and didn’t have the best of luck last time. ENOTIS should be at his top now and could be suited coming back to 1800m DUBLIN JOURNAL maps well and is another that didn’t have the best of luck last start. EL SOLEADO and MOVEFORLEX have cases. Selections: 7,3,8,5 Suggested Bet: Star Vega each way Race 8 Even race. PARTY FOR ONE goes well for B.Shinn and has jumped out in good style to resume. VAGRANT comes back to 1200m but is in great form and has jumped out nicely between runs. No recent trial or jumpout for WROTE TO ARATAKI, who usually fires fresh and won this race last year. A LITTLE DEEP, RICH FORTUNE and SNEAKY PAIGE are among the other hopes. Selections: 4,6,1,7 Suggested Bet: Party For One each way Race 9 MIDTOWN BOSS resumed gelded for the new stable with a most impressive victory and the horse he easily defeated, Mornington Glory, has won twice since. KIN has been a little frustrating of late but has had genuine excuses on most occasions. RAY MAGNERIO gets some weight relief from another in-form galloper, JUNGLE JIM, after chasing him down the straight last start but neither appear to have the upside of Midtown Boss. Selections: 9,13,3,1 Suggested Bet: Midtown Boss to win Race 10 JIMMYSSTAR ha created a big impression since arriving in Australia and has jumped out in great fashion between runs. TONNEOFGRIT draws for a soft run and might be suited coming back to 1400m. WHO DARES is racing consistently and capable of pushing forward from a wide draw. BRUNG KING is building a handy record but seems better suited with the sting out of the ground. Selections: 13,10,7,2 Suggested Bet: Jimmysstar to win Market Market
