Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 14, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Plenty of strong barrier trial form in this opening race with AMAZING EAGLE the standout winning his recent Rosehill heat by over 7 lengths in slick time. He wasn’t pushed out to do so & just looks a ready to go 2yo type. Just the one trial for MOONRAKER who clocked in second to Wednesday’s Wyong Magic Millions winner Highness, he railed home from last in that heat & although held by the winner that’s a very strong form line. Nothing wrong with the trials of ANODE either, won both, latest on the same day as AMAZING EAGLE however in slower time. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: AMAZING EAGLE likely too short, box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Just a small turn out for this week’s Midway over the mile. VEGAS OUTLAW is the in-form runner having won 3 of his past 4, 4 of his past 5! Only lightly raced for a 7yo he’s still improving & can keep that winning run going this afternoon. AWESOME LAD is a hard one to catch, this is the easiest race he’s gone around in for some time though suggesting he’ll figure in the finish. COSMIC FIELD could improve off the latest, simply gave away too much start. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 ZOUPHORIA looks yet another promising type from the Waterhouse/Bott yard who has plenty of upside. 1100-1400m second up leading all of the way in typical stable fashion she didn’t dawdle out front either running strong sectionals putting a gap on her rivals early in the straight. Down a stack in weight she’s going to take catching once again. Monitor market moves around the resuming NANA’S WISH, she’s an ex-Kiwi who needed the run first up at Warwick Farm last prep however that may not be the case this time around. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: ZOUPHORIA TO WIN RACE 4 Chris Waller’s improving 4yo KAPAKIRI can continue on his winning way here. He won his maiden with plenty of authority at Eagle Farm two back before zooming through along the inside rail at the Sunshine Coast to win running away. Based on those wins the 2000m trip today should suit nicely. TOESONTHENOSE is flying, he deserves another crack at this distance, concern has to be the big weight. CABOCHE freshened up & back in trip in the mix as well. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet: KAPAKIRI EACH-WAY RACE 5 Throwing the wide draw out the window in this race & going with the best horse in the race & that’s EMPEROR who was very impressive winning at the same level this track & trip first up 6 weeks back. He put his rivals away in no time on that occasion winning with plenty up the sleeve, he can overcome the poor draw & win again. ACAPELLA SUN was a winner when last going around in this grade, 4 starts since have all been close up in stronger company. SIR MING a market watch, no luck when last here. Numbers: 1 – 13 – 15 – 2 Suggested Bet: EMPEROR TO WIN (if black figures). RACE 6 Interesting to see UNION ARMY resuming over 1100m this prep. Last campaign he kicked things off over 1400m & was found wanting in the straight, all subsequent starts were at either 1200 or 1300m. Gate one today off a tidy trial win I’m happy to follow any market support. BOSTON ROCKS also resumes, lightly raced with a good record also drawn to figure in the finish. FINE VINTAGE has winning form albeit in easier races, does hold a fitness edge. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 3 – 12 Suggested Bet: UNION ARMY EACH-WAY RACE 7 KIRWAN’S LANE does appear very well placed here coming out of some much stronger races of late including last week’s Group 2 Ingham when beaten just over a length. 3 of his 11 wins have been this track & trip, he handles all going &perhaps the only negative is the 61kg. Right down the bottom NAVAL COLLEGE resumes, showed good ability last prep & can come to hand quickly, will carry 9kg less than KIRWAN’S LANE. GREBENI could be a sharp improver, excuses last start is well drawn today. Numbers: 2 – 15 – 11 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Tricky looking race, on first glances LOUISVILLE is working up to a win however he’s got 1600m written all over him now, not 1400m. PLUNDERING maps well, should be peaking third up, plenty of ticks however he just seems to find one or two better, he’ll run a top 3 alright but as for winning… Mmm, I’ll take the punt as this is not a race with too many winning chances on paper. MIRACLE SPIN will be rattling home at the business end. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Tough race, should they all start the speed up front looks likely to be better than genuine, does that set the race up for something off speed? Could be way off the mark here however RINGAROSA fits that category & has a very good fresh record, at big odds is worth a throw at the stumps. DOLLAR MAGIC is super consistent & will appreciate 100m less ground, just needs a pressure free run which unfortunately isn’t highly likely. SQUAD a big market watch. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: RINGAROSA EACH-WAY (very small) RACE 10 Call me crazy which is completely fair as I’m going with GRACILISTYLA who was beaten at all 6 starts last prep however all things being equal he could easily have won 3 of those outings. That’s not saying he would have as he may well be scared of the winning post however I’m a glass half-full guy & I’m happy to stick one more time, or until he wins one, maybe. CONTEMPORARY is smart & ready to win, had this been 1400m I’d have him the ‘best of the day’. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: GRACILISTYLA EACH-WAY Market Market
