Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on August 10, 2023August 10, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Liked the look of CABALLUS’ win at Randwick a fortnight back at only his second career start. He swept down the outside to run down a smart type in Estriella clocking the quickest final 400 & 200m splits in the race. His only other start was a horror watch when unable to gain clear running down the straight at Canterbury. 1300m today looks very suitable. No knock on THE LITTLE PUMPER who is 2 from 2 this prep, he’ll get out front & give CABALLUS something to run down. Wide gate no help for MISTY LEGEND however he did make good ground at Eagle Farm last start. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: CABALLUS TO WIN RACE 2 Fair to say ELETTRICA would have won at Randwick two weeks ago if able to gain a clear run earlier in the straight. She had to change course more than once until finally bursting through between runners late & charging to just miss, in one more bound she wins. DREAMDEEL has come back in good order, solid on pace win here last time & drops plenty in weight. The consistent DIMAGGIO is always a chance, will need luck from the wide gate though. Numbers: 9 – 11 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet: ELETTRICA EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 3 WINEGLASS BAY is a consistent galloper who should be peaking third run back from a break. Outgunned by a fitter rival last start he didn’t shirk his task one bit & keep in mind he did win at the same stage of his last prep. Stablemate MASCARET can figure with a repeat of the last start win when sitting up on speed stepping up in distance. I’ve jumped off BAZOOKA having tipped him his last few, fraught with danger, I guess we all know how it will likely end… Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 4 Very open looking Highway. MELODY AGAIN drew wide & was never a chance last start, prior run she beat all bar the winner & without any luck, her pattern of getting back works against however maybe, just maybe, Jay Ford can make some use of the good alley this afternoon. IRON WILL was good winning on speed last start however the 1300m might find him out? TAGS will be rattling home as he usually does, WIZARD OF OZ didn’t get a lot of room first up, thought was safely held when clear though? Numbers: 12 – 3 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 5 OLENTIA hasn’t done anything wrong in her short career to date having won 4 of 5 starts & I can certainly forgive the only blemish. She resumes here off a slick trial win & keep in mind is unbeaten fresh. New stablemate EXTREMELY LUCKY also holds a good first up record, trials also good however his pattern to date has been to get back & run on, how much start will he give away here? DEVIL’S THROAT was 2 from 2 this prep before racing wide in the Ramornie at Grafton when far from disgraced. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 6 The resuming CALL DI gets the nod however the market moves closer to race time will be all important. She’s got the right form at black type level to hold a clear class advantage over her rivals here & her recent trial behind Alligator Blood was a good one. AFRICAN DAISY should land a good run from the draw, not raced for a month so again market all important. POWERFUL PEG has race fitness on the other pair. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 7 Big test for Tony Gollan’s smart FREEDOM RALLY here who steps it up a cog after winning dominantly in Brisbane at his past two starts. Love the way he’s powered clear late suggesting further than this will be very suitable however today he remains at 1400m. Whilst I think he’s too short I’ve still got him on top. CHORLTON LANE looked good winning on debut in Australia before a little flat last time? Gut feel is I’d rather see him rising in trip than coming back 100m. WATEGOS is flying, he can handle the step up in trip however will need luck early to cross from the wide draw. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics RACE 8 The Waterhouse/Bott combination look to have the speedy THE INSTRUCTOR all set to make a winning return in this Listed feature. A winner at his first two starts he then finished out of the placings in the Group 1 Blue Diamond which he led at breakneck speed. Both lead up trials point to a forward showing. Maiden galloper TIZ INVINCIBLE has also impressed at the trials, both runs in the autumn were solid. No knock CIGAR FLICK who has been freshened up since winning first up overcoming difficulties. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: THE INSTRUCTOR TO WIN (unless a decent market drifter) RACE 9 The resuming PERICLES holds a decent first up record & should be primed to add successfully to it in this race. He’s had a couple of lead-up trials winning the latest at Canterbury & keep in mind he has plenty of quality being Group 1 placed last prep in the Guineas here. Wide gate for UCALLEDIT who is racing in fine form & has a clear fitness edge over many of these. MADAME POMMERY & KALINO in the mix, the latter will have to go up a cog or two class wise. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 10 GARZA BLANCA looks very promising & might have a bit on these. He ran a track record bolting in at Cranbourne three back before placing his next couple here albeit as an odds-on favourite on both occasions. Liked his recent trial win & J. Mac jumps on which is a good lead. KIR ROYALE looks close, did win third up last prep & that’s where she’s at now. Expecting improvement from TROACH however he’s a bit hard to catch, may well prefer a wet track? Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet: GARZA BLANCA TO WIN (small bet) Market Market
