Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on February 1, 2022February 2, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SESSIONS PEAK has turned a corner since the visors went on. Finished only half a length off Poster Art in what has turned into a great winner producing maiden (Ruby Noir, Tell Nothin, Mr Brilliant) and then last Wednesday chased hard behind Mr Brilliant in a fast run mile. They went 3L faster than maiden average last Wednesday and that means he’ll be popular in betting. Grab the eachway while it’s available. TIGER MOVE has blinkers re-instated and CJP jumps aboard. Drawn to get the run of the race and comes through that same Poster Art maiden as Sessions Peak. PRIVATE SCENE continues to run well. No luck two starts ago and beaten by a handy one last start. OCEAN AURA is drawn awkwardly but she’s got ability. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – SESSIONS PEAK EACHWAY RACE 2 PRINCE RAGNAR went around odds on for his debut when beaten in the final stride by War Gem. Was plunged in betting that day and his popularity followed him to a 3 year old Plate when finishing third behind Policiere and Harmika. Trialled up well again and should settle right over the speed. No surprise to see him return a winner. COBBANCO is suited over further but he’s a winner taking on maidens. Looks to have above average ability and has been given a freshen up. VRANYO finished fourth behind Flying Missile in a SWP first-up last campaign. Quiet trial in the ear muffs. SPINALONG TIME is a quick little filly who may look to hold them out. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – PRINCE RAGNAR WIN RACE 3 SOMETHINGREADY trialled like she was ready to attack a first-up assignment. Love the way she has attacked the line under Paul Harvey at Lark Hill and from the inside draw she can be saved up for one last burst at them. With the favourite likely to be the maiden mare Critical Altitude she gets her opportunity to win one fresh. CASH AWAY put the writing on the wall on debut and then won well down the straight first-up no trial. CRITICAL ALTITUDE clearly has ability but she does a fair bit wrong. Shades on and leads but has gone under at $1.50 and $1.40 her last two. CHOICE BID is awkwardly drawn but has been competitive in Saturday 3 year old Handicaps at Belmont over winter. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – SOMETHINGREADY WIN RACE 4 ARNO THE FOX is kept deliberately fresh by trainer Liz Strempel and she is reaping the rewards. Last three runs have been career best and they have been off 38 days, 36 days and 35 days. Following the exact same race profile here he comes into it fresh off 34 days and won in this grade at this distance last start by over 2.5L and beat a subsequent winner in Acermetric. Extremely hard to knock the way he’s going. BANDALERA MISS backs up off 3 days from Sunday at Pinjarra. Blinkers on, CJP on, quick back-up, plenty to like. HIS EMINENCE comes from a maiden into a C3 which is no easy task but he looks really progressive. CHAMPAGNE GAL can be hit and miss but her best is handy. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – ARNO THE FOX WIN RACE 5 PHONEME is particularly well placed into this race by Michael Lane. His stable has been ticking over well in the last month or so and this 6 year old resumed in a 66+ 1200m at Ascot and was a fast finishing second behind Vital Blast. Drops from a 66+ into a 60+ 0MWLY and steps out to his pet trip of 1400m. Drawn a gate to stalk the leaders and with clear air he looks a great chance. KOHLI looks the obvious danger on paper. First start in WA finished third behind Eeyore Wayz and subsequent Saturday winner Phanta. Drawn to get a similar run to Phoneme. Wins one in WA very soon. RED PUBLISHER hasn’t seen a race of this nature since 2016. Only two starts ago he finished second in the Mandurah Cup. SPILLINOVA backs up after being well supported last weekend and has shades re-attached. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – PHONEME WIN RACE 6 GUARD THE SAFE comes from a high rating 3 year old Plate behind Magic Millions favourite Spin The Knife. Spin The Knife, Pixie Chix, Via Monte and Cold Shizzle would all be favourite in a race like this and Guard The Safe ran the fastest L600 of that event. Drops out of Saturday 2 and 3 year old racing into a C1 1300m. Excellent placement, drawn a gate and goes round eachway. It’s a yes from me. RULEEE broke her maiden like she would be winning a few more this campaign. Should be suited by the long Belmont straight. I’M ALL MISS gave Ryan Hill his first winner as a trainer. Was a trial watchers dream and didn’t let her supporters down on debut. FIND YOUR MAN was a big improver ridden cold last week. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – GUARD THE SAFE EACHWAY RACE 7 ROCKY PATH is the kind of mare who is always a chance at odds in this grade. First-up last campaign was coming out of a trial beaten 4L when she won a Belmont park C3 at odds. Vaughn Sigley follows the same path here with the mare. Thought the trial was good enough considering the types she was chasing around and the wide draw is never going to worry her. Provided they’re running on she’s a live chance at double figures. ZOUDINI has put two great runs together in the West. Only minor query is whether he’s looking for further now. Hard to argue with what he’s produced so far. CAPTAIN SHARMANE went under last start at Albany at the hands of stablemate Halatorion. Maps to get a lovely run throughout. TREVELLO ran well last start in a tougher race than this. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – ROCKY PATH EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4,5 3,6 1,2,5,7,8,12 1,2,3,4,6,7,9,10 Market Market
