Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on October 5, 2021October 5, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TOP NOTCH SCOTCH looks to have found her best chance yet to break through. Second to Black Melody in a maiden handicap at York over 1500, third beaten only narrowly late by handy 3 year old Prince of Guelph in a 1600m maiden at Northam and now steps to the 1920. Should get across safely from the draw and Kyra Yuill rides York well. SHYSTER is on the quick back up from Sunday at Northam and did run particularly well. Almost pinched a staying maiden last campaign when second to Lady Duckworth. JAFETICA is an out and out staying type. The further they go the better she’ll get. XCAVATE can do things wrong but did run well for Victoria Corver last start. Chris Willis usually finds a win for these tried types. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – TOP NOTCH SCOTCH WIN RACE 2 YUNA MAILMAN was nabbed in the shadows of the post at Toodyay by Tiny’n’tuff. Never easy to try and line up the form from a once a year meeting like Toodyay but Yuna Mailman has speed and after the claim for Jett Stanley gets in relatively well in a maiden handicap. Should nearly find the fence and if he does he’s the one to beat. BELLE OF THE NIGHT was double nominated for Wednesday and Thursday. This looks a far easier assignment so expecting that she will line up here. Big money for her first-up this track/distance. UNSAID DREAMS is still quite new and raw. Trials were alright. NUTWOOD was great first-up. Disappointing when plunged second-up. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – YUNA MAILMAN WIN RACE 3 SHECKY’S MATE looks hard to beat here. Has a 10.5kg weight pull on main rival Beaucount and should settle in front of him. Lead them up at Geraldton when well commissioned before being gunned down by a far superior horse. Steps to 1500m, rolls to the top, controls the tempo and kicks for home at the top of the hill. Hard to run down from there. BEAUCOUNT has a massive 66kg on his back which will more than likely stop him. Ability wise has lengths on these. But it’s a big ask to carry the weight. BLACK MELODY can track through along the fence. BLACK SMUGGLER loves York racing. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHECKY’S MATE WIN RACE 4 TALENTED ESCAPE has had five runs in WA and recorded a second place to Shecky’s Mate and a fourth in a C3 behind Axel ‘R’ Eight, Buster Bash and Red Dwarf. 2100m back to 1500m, given a freshen up and been back to trials in between. From the draw can settle right over the top of the speed in a race devoid of a natural leader and from there should go well. CABLE GUY has 61kg and a bad barrier but his best form is superior to rivals. If he shows up he’ll take a stack of beating and could give Chris Graham his first winner as a senior. RODOMONTE has been slowly but surely building into the campaign. MISS MALIBU an improver after a lacklustre start to the preparation. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – TALENTED ESCAPE EACHWAY RACE 5 UNDER THE RADAR, FAIR JOY and FOO TROUBLE will ensure this is a very fast 1200. UNDER THE RADAR has a weight pull on the other two and a barrier to work with. Third time out at 1300m and should enjoy the run of the race here. Gets her chance to break through. FAIR JOY has to lump 63kg but love the placement by Jade Tangaroa. If he can get out cleanly and position up he’ll be the testing material. Placed in m58/60+ twice in the last few months. This is very winnable. FOO TROUBLE looked the perfect dirt horse on paper but didn’t seem to overly handle the surface. Back onto the grass. Keep safe. CLEVE’S WATCHING will be chasing at the 800 but does keep coming. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – UNDER THE RADAR WIN RACE 6 CHOIX DE LACE and ARTIC BLUE almost deadheat at Toodyay last start. They clash again here at York and CHOIX DE LACE is 2 from 2 undefeated at the track. Perfect horse for Rosie Mahony to kick around and is again well placed by the yard. She’ll come out running, she’ll sit on top of the speed and she’ll give a kick. Hard to knock in this. ARTIC BLUE can again sit just inside of her and looks hard to beat. BLAZING PASSION is drawn awkwardly but did go well at York two starts ago. TINY’N’TUFF should kick through to hold leader’s back and from there she’s a live chance. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – CHOIX DE LACE WIN RACE 7 CARABINIER is the class horse. 52+ winner two starts ago who is now in a 46+. Placement 10/10. Great opportunity for Hannah Fitzgerald who had a day out at York at the most recent meeting. From the gate should get the right run midfield with cover. TRADE PRIZE looks ready to win. Won a 46+ at York last preparation beating Metallic Queen and put the writing on the wall last start at Toodyay behind that same mare. Taj Dyson is getting more and more confident in the saddle and riding well. METALLIC QUEEN is a great provincial/country mare. Won well last start and goes super at York. AMERICAN QUEEN should find the front in a race without a deal of pressure. From there is hard to run down. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – CARABINIER WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4,5,8,10 1,2,4 1,2,5,9 1,2,4,5 Market Market
