Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on May 26, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LASTING IMPACT trialled well with the blinkers on at Belmont when winning her trial when not fully tested. Looked professional and travelled really well throughout. Chris Parnham and Neville Parnham are both in form and this filly should be able to position just behind the speed. LONG MAY YOU RUN was probably stiff to run into Chantorque on debut who looks like being a Saturday filly. Has race experience on his side but the barrier draw is far from ideal. ELLISIO lead at Lark Hill over 1100 and was only collared late. From the inside draw can kick through to lead. NUHAD was not disgraced behind King Lucifer in a 1000m trial and that galloper might just be above average. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – LASTING IMPACT EACHWAY RACE 2 BRIGHT DIAMOND makes her debut and this is the time of year when Grant & Alana Williams start to dominate the maidens and wheel out Bob Peters better youngsters. Always an exciting period of racing and this filly looks to have her fair share of ability. Didn’t have much opposition to run down at the trials but did so in second gear and ran through the line impressively when asked to accelerate. VENETIAN JEWEL hasn’t been seen since Feb 2019 but her recent trial under Kate Southam with the blinkers on was effortless when leading from start to finish. SHE’S ENCHANTED won impressively at Lark Hill and can race right on top of the speed. FIMOZZI had absolutely no luck on debut and still ran a race. This is a much deeper field unfortunately. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – BRIGHT DIAMOND WIN RACE 3 CARLTON CASTLE was the target of strong money first-up in a C3 when getting back and never really working into the race. Was eased down in the concluding stages and clearly could have finished closer if Harvey had wanted to. Second-up, shades on, up in trip and back in grade. Looks a nice race for him. SILVER SCOUT could not have been more impressive at his return to racing rounding up 15 opponents to score from last. Reproduces that effort and he’ll be awfully hard to hold out. STARALIGN has been a model of consistency since returning to the track. GREAT CHARADE draws soft in gate 1 but history says the winners will come down the centre. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – CARLTON CASTLE WIN RACE 4 ANNIHILATOR is first-up at 1200 which is sure to be on the shorter side for him but his form toward the end of the campaign at Ascot was super. Thumped Divide the Sea before running sixth in a high rating edition of the Lee Steere Stakes. Trialled behind Laverrod without shades and was far from disgraced (or tested). Sits midfield and can prove hard to hold out. LEVITATE will be all the rage. Won well last start but any of these horses would have won that weak C1. Clearly a big danger and very progressive. AGENT JAY steps up to a more suitable 1200m and is proven on the soft6 conditions. KATONA was good at his WA debut and looks likely to appreciate the longer straight. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – ANNIHILATOR WIN RACE 5 RHYTHM STAR looks a staying filly capable of going through the grades. Last start win was on a Soft7 so she is adept in the conditions and the form around her stacks up well enough with a winner and a place getter coming from the race already. She should settle one out and two or three back and this is a very thin C1 race. Should prove too classy. BLACK RANSOM made a sustained run last start at Ascot. Query whether gate 1 suits him at all but he is clearly the second elect. ALMASTER backs up and has been constantly supported since joining JT Warwick. FINAL CHILL is a maiden but looks like beating home a fair few here. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – RHYTHM STAR WIN RACE 6 WANNA BE GOOD is awfully hard to catch but this is a perfect race for him. His last 13 starts have been in higher grade than this and Proconsent winning Saturday makes the form even better. Couple that with Wild Front and Zephyr Queen’s efforts at their next start and he is coming out of a strong form race and relishes the wet ground. Worth another go. FALSE STATEMENT likely parks three deep the trip but on a soft6 and over the short course that isn’t a bad spot to be. Trial was sound and horses are running for Madi Derrick. THE NINTH HOUR was a seriously good trial behind Windstorm. The query is whether he can round them all up from last. DEW WEST looks well placed against the older horses and has been consistently good all preparation. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – WANNA BE GOOD WIN RACE 7 FRIAR’S GIFT finds a new home in the stables of Brian Rogers who is making a name for himself with tried and tested horses. Last start in a 66+ split subsequent winners Luke’s Gold and Speeding Comet. Drops in grade and last time he was in this grade was on a Soft7 when he won by 6.5L. SPEEDY MISS draws another perfect alley and seemly will enjoy the conditions. Should park midfield and go close. ZEPHYR QUEEN was strong on speed last start in a race run almost 3L faster than average. Going well and races on speed. TURBO POWER only goes up 1kg from his last start win when well supported. Back in form. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – FRIAR’S GIFT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3 2 1,2,3,7,12 3,5,7,8 Market Market
