Deane’s Saturday Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 9, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview It’s Super Saturday at Flemington and, whilst my best bets don’t figure in the feature races, I’m going with RICH CHARM (Race 6 no.4) in the Newmarket and GAILO CHOP (Race 8 no.4) to win the Australian Cup. RACE 1 NO. 8 CONCEALER Smart mare CONCEALER resumes from a spell in the Benchmark 90 Handicap (1000m) and a prominent first-up showing can be expected. The four year old has a good fresh record and a very strong record down the Flemington straight so it looks as though trainer Tony McEvoy has specifically targeted this race for her to make a winning return to the track. Jamie Kah takes the ride and CONCEALER looks a great chance in a competitive race. RACE 3 NO. 6 PORTMAN PORTMAN will be fitter for one run back from a spell and looks the best bet of the day when he contests the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy (1400m). The five year old resumed from a spell with a solid 4th behind KEN’S DREAM over 1200 metres at Flemington on February 17. He is a winner of two of his three second-up runs and boasts an excellent Flemington record of two wins and four placings from eight previous runs. Champion rider Damien Oliver has been in stunning form of late and takes the ride aboard PORTMAN, who should prove very hard to beat. SuperPick - RACE 3 NO. 6 PORTMAN - Win Boost RACE 5 NO. 8 SHOKORA The TAB Kewney Stakes (1400m) looks a very even race with a host of chances, however SHOKORA makes strong appeal on an each way basis. The Hayes/ Dabernig trained filly has enjoyed a good preparation including a solid last start 4th behind the Group one performers RIMRAAM and BRING ME ROSES in the Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 17. That’s the best formline for this race and, significantly, SHOKORA will wear blinkers for the first time in this race. She’s a lightly raced filly with a good future that can elevate to Group 2 level in this race. Bet Now
